YENOM NEVE - This mare is entered to race right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. The thoroughbred with the top average class figure in turf events is usually a solid play. This thoroughbred fits the bill. Trainer, Bish, has been deliberate with this mare off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. BEAUTIFUL B - Last time she ran at this distance she garnered a rating good enough to win today's event. Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this animal has the highest speed fig for the dist/surf. Recent speed figures show solid pattern of improvement. GLITZY GALA - This filly is in nice physical condition, having run a nice race on July 23rd, finishing third. This animal isn't the morning line choice, but finished ahead of today's M/L favorite in her last race (Jul 23rd at Mountaineer Park).

MY HAT - This equine doesn't have a champion's character. Often finishes in the place or show spot. Will not be easy for this horse to beat this bunch off of that last speed fig. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the likely underpriced contenders list. ABUNDANT STORY - This filly hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last couple of efforts.

I think CHARMING BULLET is a decent choice. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in turf route events in this field. Earned a very good Equibase Speed Figure last time out. Seems to have a solid class edge based on the recent company kept. FATHER BRYAN - Has solid front-end speed and will almost certainly fare admirably against this group. Must be considered - I like the figures from the last race.

MIKADO - The race may set up nicely for this thoroughbred's late kick and he's probably the best closer in the field. Trainer Allen moves this animal down in class ranks to face weaker company. Look for a solid performance given this drop. DEEP THINKER (IRE) - This horse could be tough in today's contest, especially since Gallardo rode last time around the track and now should be acquainted with this one. Ran last out against tougher competition at Presque Isle Downs. The move down in the class scale should suit him well. I really like that recent effort on Aug 6th at Presque Isle Downs where he ended up third. A repeat of that latest race on August 6th where he registered a speed figure of 78 looks lofty enough to prove victorious in this affair. WHISPER BARROW - This gelding is in fine condition. Ended up first on Aug 5th. Trainer, Rice, has been deliberate with this gelding off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. ROARING LAUNCH - When Morales and Brooks team up on equines the return on investment has been terrific at +86.

LATE ACT JONES - Notched a disappointing speed rating last time around the track in a $6,250 Claiming race on Aug 4th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that figure.

I think it's worth a shot here to back the Pirates at home against the Nationals. It's been a struggle to say the least for Pittsburgh after the All-Star break. However, I think they are motivated to play spoiler against a team like Washington that's fighting for a playoff spot.
I also think this team has to be a little rejuvenated after the interactions with the kids in yesterday's game against the Cubs at the Little League World Series. At the same time, this is not an easy spot for the Nationals. Washington is off a crazy series against the Brewers. Really easy for them to not take the start of this series seriously, especially with how bad the Pirates have been.
The numbers aren't great for starter Trevor Williams, but the end result are hard to ignore. Pittsburgh has won 7 of Williams last 10 home starts. He's also better on longer rest with a 9-3 mark in his last 12 when on 5 days of rest. Take Pittsburgh!

The red hot Washington Nationals have won nine of their last 12 games, with the last two seeing a combined 53 runs scored! They won the finale of a three-game series against the Brewers 16-8 on Sunday and will most likely need to stay productive at the plate to take this one against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Right-hander Joe Ross (3-3, 5.91 ERA) will take the ball for the Nats. He has posted an impressive 0.50 ERA over his last three starts, but the 26-year-old is the kind of pitcher that can blow up at just about any time. Note that Ross entered the month with a 9.85 ERA before hitting a hot streak ...
As for Pirates' starter Trevor Williams (5-5, 5.25 ERA), he was tagged with five runs on seven hits and five walks in five innings against the Angels in a contest the Pirates still won 10-7. Williams has surrendered 14 runs over his last three starts and he owns an ugly 6.11 ERA in eight starts home at PNC Park on the season.
Over is 6-0 in Williams' last 6 home starts. Over is 13-2-1 in Pirates last 16 Monday games.

I'll take my chances here with Cincinnati getting a win at home against the Padres. I like Reds' starter Trevor Bauer and I'm not concerned with his ugly outing at Washington. That's a really good lineup. Padres offense has been pretty average and right now are without arguably their best hitter in Tatis Jr. Even if Bauer struggles, Cincinnati's offense should score enough for the win. San Diego's Eric Lauer has a 6.20 ERA in 11 road starts and the Padres are a good team to fade to open a series. San Diego has lost 10 of their last 13 series openers. Give me the Reds -158!

Although the Angels (62-64) and Rangers (60-64) are separated by just two wins, these clubs are currently trending in opposite directions. While the Angels have won four of their last five, the Rangers have dropped four in a row and 10 of their last 12.
Youth will be featured on the mound this evening as 22-year-old Kolby Allard (1-0, 4.50 ERA) starts for the Rangers against the 26-year-old Dillon Peters (3-1, 3.38 ERA) for the Angels.
In his last outing, the left-handed Allard allowed three walks, four hits, and three runs in 5 2/3 innings against Toronto.
Peters, another lefty, joined the Los Angeles rotation in late July. In five games since then, Peters has posted a 3.14 ERA. His last outing ended in a victory over the Pirates after allowing just two runs over six innings.
So far, Mike Trout has zero at-bats against Allard. That will change today, and could be a scary sight for the Rangers starter. In his last 15 games, Trout is batting .320 with six home runs. On the season, Trout is batting .298 with 41 homers and 96 RBIs.
