LUCY TOO looks decent to best this field. Has been running soundly lately and will probably be close to the lead early on. This pony has a excellent win percentage in dirt sprints. CURIOUSNCURIOUSER - She has to be given a chance given the strong speed figures. The Equibase speed fig of 80 from her last affair looks solid in here. SHYLA - Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Contreras have shown strong results recently. Ought to be carefully examined in this contest if only for the very good speed figure recorded in the last race.

I’m going back to the well at Wrigley on Saturday. In Game 2 of the series we get RH Joe Ross (3-3, 5.48 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jose Quintana (11-7, 3.91).
The Nationals took the series opener 9-3, Anibal Sanchez held Chicago to one hit in 8 1/3 innings. He hasn't taken a loss since May 10. Also Adam Eaton and Juan Soto homered to lead the Nats to the victory, this was their 10th win in the last 12 games - six of which have come by at least six runs.
The Nationals are now 7-3 in the last 10 games on the road and are scoring 5.12 runs per game, 3.42 walks, 8.71 hits and 1.23 home runs.

No way I'm passing up on the Phillies as a small road favorite against the Marlins. I was on Miami in yesterday's win, but that was cause the they were a +165 dog when they shouldn't have been.
I think the fact that Bryce Harper is on the paternity list is playing into the number, but there's a lot of talent in that Phillies lineup and they are going to be up against Jordan Yamamoto. In 12 starts he's got a 4.59 ERA and owns a 5.81 ERA over 6 home starts. He's faced Washington twice in his career, both this season, and allowed 6 runs and 8 walks in 9 innings of work.
Phillies are a strong 11-4 in their last 15 when coming off a loss. The Marlins are 0-5 in their last 5 when coming off a win. Miami is also just 1-5 in Yamamoto's last 6 starts. Take Philadelphia!

I’m surprised the Phillies are such small favorites today. I think there’s value on them especially after they were -165 favorites yesterday. They will be highly motivated to bounce back from an embarrassing 11-19 loss to the Marlins Friday in which they blew a 7-0 lead.
Zach Eflin is 3-2 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.173 WHIP in seven career starts against the Marlins. His last two starts against the Marlins in 2019 have gone very well for him as he has allowed just 4 earned runs in 15 innings for a 2.40 ERA.
Jordan Yamamoto is 4-4 with a 4.59 ERA in 12 starts this season, including 2-2 with a 5.81 ERA in six home starts for the Marlins. Yamamoto has posted a 6.00 ERA in two starts against the Phillies in 2019, giving up 6 earned runs in 9 innings.
Philadelphia is 11-1 after a combined score of 17 or more runs this season. Miami is 1-5 in Yamamoto’s last six starts. The Marlins are 16-35 in their last 51 games overall. Bet the Phillies Saturday.

I'm going to fire right back with the Reds as my free play for Saturday. I gave out Cincinnati for my free pick on Friday and they gave it away by giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose 3-2. I just think there's too much value here with the Reds. Alex Wood has a 5.92 ERA in 5 starts, but his last 4 have all been against likely playoff teams in the Cardinals, Nationals, Cubs and Braves. With how bad this Pittsburgh offense is (including their 3 runs on Friday, Pirates have scored 13 runs in their last 8 games combined. Reds offense will be up against Trevor Williams who is as bad as the numbers. Williams has a 6.99 ERA and 1.594 WHIP in 9 home starts and has given up a staggering 19 runs on 21 hits in his last 3 starts, which only spans 12 innings of work. Give me the Reds -106!

The Angels (63-68) haven’t been the winningest team in the majors lately, but each of their last four losses have come by just a one-run deficit. They’ll be looking to do more than just keep themselves in tonight’s game against the Astros (83-47) in Houston.
The road-dog Angels will send out Dillon Peters (3-1, 3.92 ERA) to start. This will be the left-hander’s first appearance against the Astros. Through 41 1/3 innings pitched, Peters has a 1.40 WHIP.
Nobody would be surprised to see Peters receive some run support from the likes of Mike Trout, who’s enjoying another fantastic season. On top of a .294 average and RBI tally of 98, Trout has set a new career high with 42 homers on the season.
Left-hander Wade Miley (12-4, 3.18 ERA) will take the mound for the Astros. Miley wasn’t great in his last outing. Against the lowly Tigers, Miley allowed three runs and a season-high 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
In the series-opening loss to the Astros, the Angels were able to generate plenty of runners. After finishing 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in that contest, more poise at the plate should lead to a bigger offensive performance in tonight’s game.

The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets combined for just three runs despite playing 14 innings of baseball in the opener of this three-game series Friday night. The Braves have won six on the bounce with each contest going under the total, and this looks like it will be another low-scoring affair.
Mets' righty Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.40 ERA) is coming off a couple of subpar outings at Atlanta and KC, but he had turned in back-to-back scoreless outings spanning 15 innings of work prior to that. Wheeler is comfortable home at Citi Field, and note that under is 5-2 in his last 7 starts versus the Braves.
As for Atlanta starter Max Fried (14-4, 3.84 ERA), the 25-year-old southpaw is 3-0 with a superb 2.01 ERA and 26 strikeouts through four starts (22-plus innings) this month. Also, note that under is 4-1 in Fried's last 5 starts versus the Mets.
Under is 6-0-1 in Mets last 7 games vs. a left-handed starter. Under is 4-0 in Braves last 4 games vs. a right-handed starter. Under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings at Citi Field.

The Texas Rangers returned from the break to take the first two of a four-game home series with the Astros (sat 50-42). However, the team then lost EIGHT in a row. A five-game win streak got them back to 58-54 through August 6 but Texas has now lost 13 of 18 to fall out of wild card consideration at 63-67 (12 1/2 games back of the second AL wild card spot). The Rangers lost 6-1 Thursday at Chicago and then fell again last night to the White Sox, 8-3. The 59-69 White Sox aren't going anywhere either (sit 15 1/2 games out of a wild card berth) but they sure seem to know how the beat the Rangers here at Guaranteed Rate Field, as they've won 12 of the last 14 meetings. Kolby Allard (1-0, 6.60 ERA) takes the mound for Texas on Saturday, opposed by Chicago's Ivan Nova (9-9, 4.47 ERA). Allard was acquired from Atlanta on July 30 and the former first-round draft pick has made three starts as a Ranger. His worst came in his most recent outing, allowing seven runs (six earned) over five innings in Monday's no-decision against the LA Angels (Texas would win 8-7 in 11 innings). This will mark his first career appearance against the White Sox. Some may remember Nova going 16-4 for the Yankees back in 2011 but that was 'another lifetime.' Then again, one has to take notice of what Nova's accomplished lately. Nova was just 4-9 (5.86 ERA) through 20 outings after losing 7-5 at KC on July 17, his first start after the break. However, he hasn't lost since, going 5-0 (team is 6-0), while allowing just four ERs over 42..1 innings for an 0.85 ERA. Who is this guy? Will Nova turn back into a 'pumpkin?' Maybe so, but considering the White Sox have won 12 of their last 14 here at home vs the Rangers, I don't expect that to happen here. Good luck...Larry
