PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Diego Castillo (2-6, 3.44 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (5-13, 5.03)
Castillo will make his 51st appearance when he serves as the opener before turning the ball over to Jalen Beeks, who pitched five innings in each of his last two appearances while taking the loss both times. The lefty gave up four runs (two earned) versus Seattle on Tuesday and was roughed up for five runs and eight hits at San Diego on Aug. 14. Beeks struggled in a relief appearance against the Orioles on April 18, giving up three runs and six hits over six innings.
Bundy gets a chance to atone for a wretched performance against Tampa Bay in the first game after the All-Star break, when he was tattooed for seven runs and eight hits in just one inning. He split a pair of decisions against the Rays earlier this season, earning the win with 7 1/3 scoreless innings of three-hit ball on May 4 and taking the loss after allowing three runs and three hits over five innings on April 16. Avisail Garcia is 6-for-13 with a home run against Bundy.

Nola had little trouble carving up the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, when he scattered two runs and four hits over seven innings while striking out seven to earn the win. The Louisiana native surrendered a total of seven runs in 26 innings over his last four starts while notching 27 strikeouts. Nola is 0-1 in two starts against Miami this season despite holding the Marlins to a total of three runs - two earned - in 14 2/3 innings.
Hernandez is trying to find some consistency and allowed one or no runs in three of his last four appearances while getting knocked around for at least four runs in each of the other three turns. The 24-year-old Venezuela native held Atlanta to one run and three hits on Tuesday but was pulled after four innings. Hernandez made a pair of starts against Philadelphia in June and went 1-0 while yielding a total of five runs and seven hits in 10 2/3 innings.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves LH Dallas Keuchel (4-5, 4.14 ERA) vs. Mets LH Steven Matz (8-7, 4.18)
Keuchel signed with the Braves in early June and in 12 starts since making his debut, the results have been effective: six starts with two or fewer earned runs allowed, and seven starts of at least six innings pitched. The 31-year-old has rebounded from a miserable eight-run, 10-hit outing Aug. 8 at Miami, surrendering one run on 11 hits with 14 strikeouts over 12 innings across his past two outings. The first of those two starts marked his first career appearance against the Mets on Aug. 14, in which he gave up five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across six shutout innings.
Matz has helped fuel the Mets second-half surge, pitching to a 2.81 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings across his past seven starts while allowing two earned runs or fewer six times in that span. The 28-year-old beat Cleveland in his last start Tuesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings of a 9-2 triumph. Matz allowed one run on two hits across six innings against the Braves in a no-decision Aug. 14, and is 5-1 with a 3.39 ERA in 11 career starts against Atlanta.

1. New York 2B Jeff McNeil, who was activated from the injured list before Saturday’s game, went 2-for-2 off the bench and is hitting .336 on the season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals LH Eric Skoglund (2018: 1-6, 5.14 ERA) vs. Indians RH Shane Bieber (12-6, 3.26)
Skoglund will make his first appearance on a major-league mound in 2019 and the 19th start of his career after serving an 80-game performance-enhancing drug suspension earlier this season. The 26-year-old UCF product suffered the loss in his last start of 2018 against Cleveland despite allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over five innings. Francisco Lindor is 3-for-4 with two homers versus Skoglund, who is 3-5 with a 6.04 ERA in 13 minor-league starts this season.
Bieber has lost his last two outings while extending his streak of quality starts to six straight after giving up four runs (two earned) over six innings against the New York Mets on Tuesday. The 24-year-old California native has already topped his win total from last season and owns a 2.89 ERA since the All-Star break. Merrifield is 4-for-12 with two doubles and a homer against Bieber, who is 1-0 with a 5.73 ERA in two starts versus the Royals this year.

Although he registered 11 strikeouts for the second time in three outings, Bauer lost his second consecutive start last time out when he allowed three runs (two earned) and five hits over seven innings against San Diego. He was hammered for nine runs over 4 1/3 innings at Washington in his previous turn, marking the third straight road start that he failed to get through five innings. Bauer has won both career starts against the Pirates while posting a 1.35 ERA.
Agrazal made his first relief appearance of the year for Pittsburgh after he was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, tossing two hitless innings against Washington on Wednesday. The 24-year-old rookie from Panama lost his last three starts before he was sent to the minors, including an outing at Cincinnati on July 31 in which he lasted 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits while striking out five. Agrazal surrendered seven home runs during the three-start skid.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (10-7, 3.99 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Zach Davies (8-6, 3.74)
Ray (back) will be activated off the 10-day injured list to make the start and is hoping to rediscover the form that saw him hold the Los Angeles Dodgers to two runs on as many hits over six innings in his last full start on Aug. 9. The 27-year-old owns 187 strikeouts in 142 innings this season and punched out two in as many innings before leaving with the back injury at Colorado on Aug. 14. Ray is seeing Milwaukee for the first time since 2017, when he tossed 13 2/3 scoreless innings across two starts against the Brewers.
Davies had his own back problems send him to the IL earlier this month but made his return on Monday at St. Louis and scattered two runs and three hits across five innings. The 26-year-old was limited to 75 pitches in that outing and is expected to get close to 100 pitches on Sunday. Davies started at Arizona on July 18 and breezed through seven frames, allowing one run and five hits to earn a win.

Burke was in position to win his major-league debut in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader after tossing six scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels before the bullpen squandered a two-run lead in the eighth. The native of Chicago made four minor-league stops this season prior to that effort, most recently posting a 7.88 ERA in two starts with Triple-A Nashville. Burke will face the White Sox for the first time after allowing Angels right-handed hitters to go 2-for-16.
Lopez has been roughed up in his last two road outings, getting tagged for five runs over 5 1/3 innings on the road against the Angels on Aug. 15 and seven - three earned - in six frames at Minnesota on Tuesday. Despite the back-to-back losses, the 25-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break after going 4-8 with a 6.34 mark in the first half of the season. Rougned Odor is 4-for-9 with a home run versus Lopez, who settled for a no-decision after permitting three runs over 5 1/3 innings in Texas on June 21.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jaime Barria (4-6, 6.35 ERA) vs. Astros LH Framber Valdez (3-6, 5.58)
Barria returned from a brief stint at Triple-A Salt Lake to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader in Texas, settling for a no-decision after allowing two runs and five hits in five innings of a 3-2 loss. The 23-year-old Panamanian stays in the rotation after Griffin Canning was lost for the season because of elbow inflammation. Barria faced Houston four times as a rookie, going 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA while handling George Springer (1-for-8) and Bregman (2-for-9) but struggling against Jose Altuve (4-for-9).
Valdez has lost four straight major-league starts - the last coming on July 15, when he allowed seven runs - four earned - and four walks in four innings of a 9-6 road loss to the Angels. The 25-year-old Dominican has since been with Triple-A Round Rock, going 4-1 with a 3.82 ERA in five starts before being recalled. Valdez is 2-2 with a 3.15 ERA in four career games (two starts) against Los Angeles.

Boyd will return from the paternity list to try and end a six-start winless streak that was extended with last Sunday's no-decision at Tampa Bay in which he yielded one run on two hits and two walks while registering nine strikeouts over seven innings. The Oregon State product ranks seventh in the majors with 201 strikeouts, recording at least eight in 16 of his 26 outings this season. Marwin Gonzalez (7-for-12, four doubles) has tormented Boyd, who did not factor in the decision against Minnesota on June 7 after permitting three runs in seven frames.
Perez remained winless since July 5 following last Sunday's no-decision at Texas in which he allowed two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. The 28-year-old has been mostly ineffective in his last three turns at home, giving up 17 runs and 26 hits in 15 frames. Perez, who has not surrendered a home run in either of his last two starts after serving up three in three of his previous four outings, took the loss against Detroit on May 12 after permitting three runs in five innings.
