After a rough series against the Pirates, the Reds (60-69) have a great chance to bounce back against the Marlins (47-82), who hold a 27-40 record at home.
While Cincinnati isn’t the most prolific offensive team – they rank 23rd– their 580 runs scored puts them far ahead of Miami and their 481 runs scored, which is only good enough for 29thout of 30 teams.
The advantage for the Reds should extend to the mound, where right-hander Sonny Gray (9-6, 2.92 ERA) will start. In his last 10 starts, Gray is 6-1 with a 1.58 ERA. In his last outing, Gray struck out 10 batters over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Padres.
In 12 at-bats against Gray, Marlins left fielder Curtis Granderson has just one hit.
Right-hander Pablo Lopez (5-5, 4.23 ERA) starts for Miami. Dealing with a right shoulder strain, this will be Lopez’ first start since going on the injured list after a June 15 outing against the Pirates.
When Gray is starting, the Reds are 14-3 in their last 17. Meanwhile, the Marlins are a dismal 4-10 in their last 14 in Miami against teams with a losing record.
