Week 1 brought some interesting handicapping angles to the forefront for me with regards to these two teams. Should we be down on the Panthers and the Bucs now? Were their games just a blip on the radar? My take is always don’t be knee jerk about the teams in Week 1, don’t believe they’re as good as you saw them, and of course we can’t believe they’re as bad as we saw them either… The NFL after all is all about parody…
In Week 1 Carolina had the daunting task of taking on the Rams. They gave them everything they could handle, but ultimately fell in the end. It wasn’t Superman Cam Newton’s greatest performance that’s for sure as he ended with just one pass attempt of more than 20 yards and had a career worst -2 rushing yards.
On the other side of this one the Bucs had their struggles all game long in their opening matchup as Jameis Winston finished 20-36 for just 194 yards with 1TD and 3 picks. Now tonight the stars will come out to play. These two teams know each other well and the juices will be pumpin'.
Mike Evans who was mostly silent in Week 1 will be in the zone tonight and I’m forecasting a huge game for him. On the other side Cam Newton will get the ball rolling on his season and the Panthers will ride the best offensive weapon in the game Christian MccCaffery. CMac won’t be the only RB on the field tonight though as I’m down with Bruce Arians mixing in the running game tonight and that will favor Ronald Jones from USC having a good game.
Some trends to consider. THE OVER is 7-1 in Bucs last 8 Thursday games, and is 13-4 in Buccaneers last 17 road games. Plus its 6-2 in Panthers last 8 home games, and 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games.
I just don’t see the offenses being slowed down tonight in this one. 49 for a total is TOO low, the public thinks these teams stink and we know better, so there you have it, a small play on the total.
