The Arizona Diamondbacks picked a bad time to have one of their worst stretches of the season. They are just 2-7 in their last nine games overall to fall 5.5 games back in the wild card with only 11 games remaining. They are basically done for and will find it hard to be motivated the rest of the way now. That’s why I’ll take a shot on the Marlins at a big road underdog price today. Plus the Marlins will be throwing their best starter in Caleb Smith, who is 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 25 starts this season. Arizona starter Alex Young is just 2-2 with a 4.60 ERA in six home starts this season. The Marlins are 7-1 in Smith’s last eight starts against NL West teams. The Diamondbacks are 1-4 in Young’s last five home starts. Give me the Marlins.

Alex Young (7-4, 3.38 ERA, 61 SO) was roughed up by the Mets in his last start, allowing six runs (one earned) over 2 2/3 innings and looked a little fatigued in that game and very much looks like fade material here tonight in the favorite role. Yes even vs the lowly Marlins.
