Let's play this Utah-USC meeting tonight to hold Under the total.


It's no secret Utah's calling card is their stout defense which to date has held all 3 of their opponents to under 100 yards rushing, as the Utes feature the Pacific Twelve's top-ranked defense, and they come in at # 7 overall in the nation is defense.


That Utah defense figures to make things difficult for the true freshman that Clay Helton is now using under center in Kedon Slovis.


Slovis was intercepted 3 times last week in an overtime loss at BYU in a game that held Under the total, and any miscues tonight mean that Utes quarterback Tyler Huntley can start to milk the clock with hand offs to standout running back Zack Moss who carried it 10 times for over 100 yards last week in a win over Idaho State.


The Utes have only allowed 29 total points in their 3 games this season, and even though the last 4 in this series have all landed Over the total, I do think the streak ends tonight in the Coliseum.


Utah's defense proves to be too much for the freshman quarterback, as USC simply cannot muster enough points tonight to help get this game to land in the Over column.

For Friday, let's ride Mike Fiers and the Athletics to take care of Mike Minor and the Rangers, as Oakland starts their final home stand of the regular season with a 2 game lead in the Wild Card standings and just 9 games left to decide the fate of those 2 Wild Card entries.

The A's have won their last pair of games, and have claimed 8 of their last 9 overall. Included is a 3 game sweep in Texas just last week, as Oakland outscored Texas, 28-16 with one of the games an 8-6 win with Fiers and Minor as the starters.

The Rangers come into this weekend set with losses in 5 straight and 6 of their last 8 overall. The Rangers have also lost 5 straight and 6 of their last 8 season series meetings with the A's!

Minor has dropped both of his starts to Oakland this year, as 11 runs have been scored in his 11 innings worked, while Fiers appears to have a low gas tank right now with 3 losses in row, as Fiers left last week's start at Texas early with an elbow issue.

I am sure the leash will be short for Fiers tonight, but with the way the A's have been charging down the stretch, going to look for them to handle the series opener by at least 2 runs.

I’m going to take a shot on the hot Blue Jays here catching the Yankees in what could be a flat spot. The Yankees celebrated winning the AL East Division Thursday night by destroying the Angels, 9-1. The Yankees overcame a record amont of players on the injured list to win a division title for the first time in seven years. They earned the right to celebrate. So the Yankees might be a little hung over today.
They also figure to be resting players, including those who are nicked up such as Aaron Judge. Toronto has played New York tough this season going 7-9, including winning a series at home against the Yankees last weekend. The Blue Jays are 7-2 in their last nine games, including winning their last four. The Blue Jays are swinging hot bats averaging 8.3 runs in their last eight games.
They are scheduled to face J.A. Happ, who has been dealing with biceps tendinitis in his throwing arm. The Blue Jays are familiar with Happ since he pitched for them from 2016 through last season and also from 2012-14. He has a 3.78 career ERA in six starts against Toronto.
The Blue Jays are throwing rookie Jacob Waguespack, who is 3-5 with a 4.47 ERA as a starter. This will be his 12th big league start. I’m not expecting too much from Waguespack, who hasn’t been in good form. But at this price – and considering the situation and how well Toronto is swinging the bats – I’ll throw a peanut on the Blue Jays.
