A dream start for the Hurricanes (5-1-0, 10 points) was finally ended with a 3-2 loss to Columbus on Saturday. We’ll see if Carolina can get back on track when they go into Los Angeles to take on the Kings (2-3-0, 4 points) this evening.
Before the loss to the Blue Jackets, Carolina’s perfect 5-0-0 start vaulted them to first place in the Metropolitan Division. On average, the Hurricanes are scoring 3.83 goals per game while allowing 2.67 goals per game.
The Kings may be six points back of Edmonton in the Pacific Division, but they’ve been able to score more goals per game than their opponent tonight. On average, Los Angeles is scoring 4.00 goals per game while allowing 5.20 goals per game.
With just three goals, Dustin Brown leads the Kings. Center Anze Kopitar leads the team with eight points on the back of two goals and six assists.
The Kings will likely need to outscore the Hurricanes in a high-scoring affair if they’ll overcome their own defensive deficiencies. But with 20 goals in five games, L.A. has the firepower to do so.
