    FREE PLAY Thursday NCAAF

SMU vs. Houston, 10/24/2019 19:30 EDT

    Point Spread: +14½/-115 Houston

    Sportsbook:
    Bodog

While Houston is on its third QB of the season and trying to find some offense, with the coaches son.
SMU is better than everyone has thought but this line is a little high.

Houston will keep this one close as its a major rivalry game and they have played a tough schedule so far.

My free play for tonight is on the Nashville Predators on the puck line, as they're going to take advantage of the Minnesota Wild, who will be without goaltender Devan Dubnyk.

Dubnyk was injured Tuesday in the 3-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Xcel Energy Center after a collision with winger Ryan Donato. He remained in the Twin Cities while the team traveled to Nashville.

Alex Stalock will start against the Predators tonight, with Kaapo Kahkonen serving as backup after the team recalled him from the minors yesterday on an emergency basis. The Wild also shifted winger Kevin Fiala (lower-body injury) to injured reserve yesterday, while winger Jordan Greenway was also injured Tuesday, leaving the game after he was blasted by Edmonton’s Josh Archibald. Greenway accompanied the team to Nashville but won’t play tonight after waking up feeling sick.

This is a banged up Wild team right now, which means the physical, fast-paced, and very talented Predators should be able to skate circles around Minnesota in front of a raucous crowd at Bridgestone.

Lay the puck line, as Pekka Rinne will be fantastic in goal for Nashville, which snapped a two-game skid with a 6-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. Nashville has 12 healthy forwards on the roster, with only Filip Forsberg listed day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

        No worries, though. Preds roll.

Detroit got their feet wet last night with a solid 119-110 road win at Indiana, but they will be back on the hardwood again tonight for their home season opener against an Atlanta team that did not play last night and should be raring to open their second season under coach Lloyd Pierce.

The Hawks are building through the draft, and this season rookies De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish will join Trae Young, John Collins and Kevin Huerter as the youth movement continues for Atlanta. They also added Evan Turner to give some depth to the guard position, and Jabari Parker was also signed as a free agent in the off-season.

The Pistons will once again be without Blake Griffin who missed last night's victory and will be sidelined for roughly the first 5 games with lingering knee and hamstring issues. It was the Andre Drummond show last night with 32 points and 23 rebounds! Aged Derrick Rose also was huge with 18 points and 9 assists in the victory. My question is, can they and the rest of the team do it again on this quick turnaround?

Drummond did play a career-high 41 minutes last night, and I expect he will be a little tired in the second half of this tilt tonight. Likewise Rose, and the rest of the Detroit team.

Last year the road team won all 3 meetings in this series, with the Hawks covering in the last pair of showdowns. I like the road trend to continue with the rested Hawks taking down the unrested Pistons.

The fact that the Minnesota offense has kicked things into high gear - 36 points per game over their last 3 contests - means that this contest is going to come awfully close to landing Over the total. The fact that Washington has scored just over 8 points per game for their last 5 contests tells me that this game should fall just shy of the total the oddsmakers have established for this Thursday night Week 8 lid-lifter.

Washington has played Under the total in each of their last 4 games this year, while Minnesota - even with their latest eruptions - have held Under the posted price in 4 of their 7 thus far this season, and are on an overall run of 11-5 Under the total since the middle of last season.

Case Keenum and Adrian Peterson are former Vikings who will be making their return to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but Peterson is gimping around this week with ankle sprains, and Keenum just does not have the weapons need for me to think that the Redskins can help in pushing the points into the Over column.

Kirk Cousins of course is the former Washington QB who was lured by the big contract out of town, and while the plays that have been getting called are working like a charm right now, the Vikings will be missing one of Cousins' main targets in Adam Theilen who will sit this one out with a bad hamstring.

Like I said, this one is going to be right there straddling that Over/Under number, but in the end I think this one falls one or two points just south of the Over.

            Redskins-Vikings Under.
