    Stanfor Steve

    Marshall -4.5

Stanford Steve: Since losing to Texas in the season opener, Louisiana Tech has won eight straight, including a 52-17 win over North Texas last weekend. There hasn't been a team I have been more wrong about this year than the guys from Ruston. With that being said, I just like the situation for the Herd here, as they have won four straight and, more importantly, control their destiny to play in the Conference USA title game, so there is plenty to play for. The addition of being at home makes me think they will cover the short number Friday night.
Pick: Marshall -4.5. Marshall 27, La. Tech 21

BIG AL's CONFERENCE USA GAME OF THE YEAR

At 7 pm, our selection is on the Marshall Thundering Herd minus the points over Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs come into this game on an 8-game win streak, and are one game ahead of Southern Miss in the West division race. Marshall also is in prime contention to make the Conference USA Title game, as it's 4-1 in conference play, and is a half-game behind Florida Atlantic in the East division standings. We'll take the home team tonight, and go against Louisiana Tech, as unrested underdogs of +3 (or more) points, on a 6-game (or better) win streak, have covered the spread in just 33.9% of their conference games since 1980. Even worse for the Bulldogs: they're an awful 4-25 straight-up, and 8-21 ATS as road underdogs of +5 (or more) points off a win. Take Marshall. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

5 Unit Play. Take #315 Louisiana Tech +5.5 over Marshall (7:00 PM, Friday, November 15, CBS Sports Network)
Louisiana Tech has posted a perfect 4-0 ATS record in their last four games following a straight up win and they are 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games. They have also covered the number in six of their last eight games where they faced a team with a winning record and they are an impressive 7-1 ATS in their last eight on the road versus a team with a winning record at home. Marshall, on the other hand, has struggled a bit in the spot they are in here on Friday as they have gone just 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a bye week and they have failed to cover the number in nine of their last thirteen games following a straight up win. Throw in the fact that the Thundering Herd are also an awful 2-12 ATS in their last fourteen home games while the Bulldogs are 10-4 ATS in their last fourteen on the road and we're taking the points here with La Tech in a game that we think they win outright in West Virginia on Friday night.
2 Unit Play. Take #317/318 Fresno St vs San Diego St Under 42.5 (9:30 PM, Friday, November 15, ESPN 2)

                        1-Unit Play. Take #681 North Dakota State (-4.5) over UT-Rio Grande (6 p.m.)
Rio Grande already lost to NDSU's Summit League archrival, getting blown out by South Dakota State this year. And SDSU isn't any good. North Dakota State is the favorite in that league, with five starters and six of their top seven guys back from last year's NCAA Tournament team. Rio Grande is working with a bunch of JUCO guys. It usually takes some time for them to come together. I haven't seen Rio Grande beat anyone decent over the last two years and they've lost to just about every Top 200 team they've faced during that stretch. I don't see them getting this win either.

                        2-Unit Play. Take #688 Notre Dame (-19) over Marshall (7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15)
Marshall is in for a long year. They are still playing fast and utilizing Dan D'Antoni's run-and-gun style. But you don't just replace Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks and their nearly 40 points per game. The Herd got wrecked by Toledo at home their last time out, losing 96-70. I don't think that this team is ready to go on the road at all and I don't think they will be competitive against the Irish. They've won their last two games by 35 and by 29 points. Both of these teams played Robert Morris. Marshall beat them by 7. Notre Dame beat them by 35. The Irish don't have a very deep bench so when they turn this game into a blowout they won't have scrubs to turn to. I like the Irish to win this one going away.

                        2-Unit Play. Take #724 Boise State (-3.5) over UC-Irvine (9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15)
When last we saw Boise State they were getting slapped around by Oregon. I think that they will rebound here in Boise. The Broncos always have a nice home court edge. And after losing by 31 to the Ducks I think that they will be ready to play in this one. UC-Irvine is a nice team and a great program. But they got lucky in a win over a bad San Diego team and then they completely choked away a win at Pepperdine, blowing a 73-64 lead with under three minutes left and taking a 77-73 loss. That one may linger. Boise has four of five starters back from last year's disappointing squad. I am expecting them to bounce back, not just from the Oregon loss but from last year's 13-20 debacle. I don't expect UC-Irvine to be as strong as last year's 31-win squad. They lost four of five starters, including Max Hazzard. They are still solid. And either they or Northridge will end up winning the Big West. But I don't think that this Anteaters club is going to go on the road and beat a motivated Mountain West club here.

                        5-Unit Play. Take #7412 Duquesne (-9) over Lipscomb (7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15)
This game may be found under Added Games or College Extra.
Lipscomb was one of the best mid-major teams in the country last year. They made it to the NIT Finals and nearly won 30 games. Four starters and their coach left that team, though, and they have some huge holes to fill. Of those starters, two were four-year starters and two others were three-year starters. Now they have a couple of freshmen and a sophomore getting run. Their best player, center Ahsan Asadullah, is hurt. Compounding matters, Lipscomb likes to play fast. The last three years, under their former coach, they played at a Top 15 pace. This year they are at No. 48. But they are overmatched here against Duquesne. And speeding the game up is only going to exacerbate the talent deficit in this one. Lipscomb only has two guys taller than 6-6. Their tallest guy is 6-9, and he's a freshmen who plays about five minutes per game. Duquesne has advantages with size, talent, experience and home court. I think they bury the needle here.

                        1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #688 Notre Dame (-14) over Marshall (7 p.m.) AND Take #7412 Duquesne (-4) over Lipscomb (7 p.m.)

1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #699 Western Kentucky (-5.5) over Eastern Kentucky AND Take #7412 Duquesne (-4) over Lipscomb (7 p.m.)

1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #699 Western Kentucky (-5.5) over Eastern Kentucky AND Take #734 UCLA (-3) over UNLV (11 p.m.)
