I'm kind of kicking myself for not betting against Cleveland State more early in the season. This team is a train wreck. New coach Dennis Gates has had to put his roster together on the fly and CSU is trying to replace all five starters from last year's terrible 10-21 Vikings squad. VSU is playing fast this year, posting the No. 55 tempo. That is going to play right into FIU's hands. The Panthers press and trap and push the tempo. They are more talented and more experienced and they should be able to run the Vikings off their own floor.

1-Unit Play. Take #659 Manhattan (+3) over Samford (7:30 p.m.)
I think that Manhattan is a little undervalued. That win over Albany was actually a good one for the Jaspers. This is a team that brought eight of its last nine top players back from last year's team. Steve Masiello has done this before at Manhattan, and this team can be frustrating to play because of their quirky press-and-zone style. Things just really haven't clicked for Samford under Scott Padgett. I don't know if Josh Sharkey is hurt or has left the team, and there's no telling where Myron Gordon is either. But without that starting backcourt, Samford is short their two best players and nearly 30 points per game from last year. I'll take the points.

2-Unit Play. Take #7582 LSU (-17) over UM-BC (7 p.m.)
I'm not a huge fan of this LSU team this year. However, I recognize a physical mismatch when I see it. They are just too big and too strong for UM-BC. The Retrievers have played four games this year. But three of them are against D-II teams and one was against a team in the bottom 75. Last year they faced three Top 100 teams in the nonconference. They lost by 22, 18 and 25. The year prior they lost by 21, 25 and 11 in the same situation. These guys just aren't competitive at this level.

This should be a chance for the Huskies to stretch their legs and bounce back after their loss against Tennessee over the weekend. Maine got bombed by a Harvard team that is playing like trash and also lost by double-digits to a bad Portland squad. Throw in the travel and the bounce back and I think the Huskies can get this one big.
