Maryland has a reliable recent history of strong starts that lead into swift mid-season fizzles. The Terrapins had an impressive performance against Marquette in their last game, but have otherwise faced mostly modest competition. The Fighting Irish have a decent returning core and have improved their depth following a season beset by injuries. They arrive well-rested and poised to give Maryland a tough battle Wednesday in what should be an entertaining contest.

The Nets aren’t just keeping their heads above water with Kyrie Irving (shoulder) out since they have actually won five of their last seven games. They’ve faced some bad teams in the Hornets, Knicks and Cavaliers, but they also defeated the Celtics. The Hawks have been awful without John Collins (suspension) and will likely be further compromised for this game with De’Andre Hunter (finger) listed as doubtful, so look for the Nets to get another win and cover along the way.

The Blazers have been playing much better lately, but they finally laid an egg in their last game, losing to the Clippers by 20 points. However, that contest was on the road and the Clippers are among the best teams in the league, so don’t read too much into it. They had won three straight games prior to that, two of which came at home. With the Kings coming off a bad loss to the Bulls at home and Bogdan Bogdanovic not looking the same since returning from a hamstring injury, I’ll take the Blazers to cover.

2-Unit Play. Take #811 Notre Dame (+9.5) over Maryland (7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
I think that the Terps could have a little bit of a letdown here. They had to play three games in four days down in Florida over the weekend and now have a quick turnaround for this ACC-Big Ten matchup. I think that this Terps team is a bit overrated; I don't think they are one of the 10 best teams in the country. And I think that Notre Dame can play with them here. The Irish already played at North Carolina earlier this year and that game was much closer than the final score suggests. I think that they can make enough shots to keep this one close.

2-Unit Play. Take #815 Akron (-3) over Marshall (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
I am just going to keep betting against Marshall. This is just a bad basketball team. They don't play any defense and they don't have the guns on the perimeter to outscore teams anymore. They played over their heads against Florida their last time out, but I think that they are going to flop and have a letdown here against an Akron team that can grind them down.

2-Unit Play. Take #819 Toledo (-13.5) over Cleveland State (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
Cleveland State has won three straight games. And that has given them just enough confidence to think that they won't get blown out here. But they will. This team has been completely non-competitive against teams rated in the Top 275, including a 46-point home blowout loss to Florida International. Toledo might be the best team that CSU has faced yet. They have depth, experience and talent and I don't think that the Vikings will be able to make enough shots to keep this one close.

2-Unit Play. Take #821 Iona (+13) over Connecticut (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)

I still just don't trust this Connecticut team to lay the wood against less talented teams. Iona is going to be up for this game. And they have enough guys that can put the ball in the bask

3-Unit Play. Take #842 Oklahoma State (-11) over Georgetown (8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4)
This would've been a really competitive game if Georgetown was at full strength. But they are a bit off the rails after having to dismiss two of their best players from the team. James Akinjo and Josh LeBlanc were returning starters and key pieces to this team. Two other bench players may also be sitting out this game because of off-court issues. The result is a team that is a mess right now. Oklahoma State doesn't care at all. They just got back in the Top 25 and they would love to lay the wood. They are 7-0 this year and are coming off blowouts over Syracuse and Ole Miss on the road. These guys are hot and are confident and should choke out the Hoyas at home.

2-Unit Play. Take #860 New Mexico (-3.5) over Boise State (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
Boise State is a team I had hopes for this year. But they don't look any better than last year's 13-20 group. New Mexico, on the other hand, is vastly improved due to several high-end transfers. The Pit is still one of the toughest places in the Mountain West to get a win and Boise State has not been good at all on the road. A worse New Mexico team beat virtually this same group here last year. And I think that the Lobos will get their first conference win here tonight.

2-Unit Play. Take #865 Air Force (-1.5) over Wyoming (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
These are two bad teams. But I think that one is clearly better than the other. Wyoming has just one win over a team in the Top 300 - and that came in overtime, at home, against Louisiana. Air Force is just 3-5 on the season. But they have lost (for the most part) to real teams. They've played a tough schedule over the last few weeks and were competitive against some teams a lot better than Wyoming. Air Force has one of the most experienced teams in the country and that should pay dividends here on the road.

2-Unit Play. Take #868 N.C. State (-5) over Wisconsin (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
Wisconsin has looked like trash this year. Outside of a really bizarre, fluke blowout of rival Marquette, the Badgers haven't looked good at all. They've already lost to three good mid-major teams on neutral courts. Now I think that they will take one in the chin from a very good high-major team in a true road game. N.C. State's guards should control this one on both ends of the court and I like a double-digit win here.

1-Unit Play. Take #870 North Carolina (-3.5) over Ohio State (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
I really like this Ohio State team. But I definitely thought that this number would be higher.

2-Unit Play. Take #8102 Florida International (-12.5) over UF-Gulf Coast (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4)
Florida Gulf Coast is the shell of what it was a few years ago. This is no longer Dunk City, that's for sure. Their last road game they got run by 30 at VCU. Road losses at Mercer (by 16) and Dartmouth (by 6) don't instill much confidence either. Besides VCU, FIU might be the best team that Gulf Coast has faced yet this year. And I think that the Panthers will get a blowout here.

2-Unit Play. 5-POINT TEASER: Take #834 Georgia Tech (-4) over Nebraska (7 p.m.) AND Take #842 Oklahoma State (-6) over Georgetown (8 p.m.)
