      INDIANAPOLIS -3.5
      INDIANAPOLIS @ JACKSONVILLE | 12/29 | 4:25 PM EST
      FRI 12/27
No team is more eager to reach the finish line than Jacksonville. The Jags have gone down by double digits in six of their seven prior games. Numerous players are questionable with injuries, notably QB Gardner Minshew (shoulder) and running back Leonard Fournette (neck). Indianapolis is healthier and, despite an unimpressive stretch run, is 7-1 ATS against division foes dating to late last season. Take the Colts.

Though New England’s dozing offense is stirring a bit, the spot is too substantial for a team devoid of big-play personnel besides QB Tom Brady. His counterpart, Ryan Fitzpatrick, has heated up. Miami's playing free and easy, having distanced itself from the No. 1 draft pick. The Dolphins have split their last eight games, and Fitz has logged 100-plus passer ratings in three of them. With clear skies and temperatures well above freezing, the Patriots won’t have a weather edge. Take Miami.

With Tennessee RB Derrick Henry (hamstring) cleared to play and Houston unlikely to move out of its No. 4 seed, the Titans carry considerable appeal. Henry, who sat out last week, has been the league’s supreme RB in the season’s second half, enabling Ryan Tannehill to become the rare fill-in QB to thrive. It’s a win-and-you’re-in for the Titans. The Texans cannot climb the playoff seeding ladder if Kansas City downs the L.A. Chargers - almost a sure thing - in the early afternoon. Barring an upset in K.C., Houston coach Bill O’Brien will yank his starters.

Assessing motivation for non-playoff teams in Week 17 is dicey, but it’s hardly going out on a limb to suspect that Cleveland will be uninspired against this one-win foe. The Browns have had attitude issues in more meaningful games, so count on something to surface here. Cincinnati, with the No. 1 draft pick sewn up, can play to win. QB Andy Dalton, facing an injury-depleted Browns D-line, could be auditioning for his future. The Bengals are expected to take a QB, which would make the veteran expendable.

The line plummeted by nearly a touchdown when Minnesota became boxed into the No. 6 seed. A greater shift would have been justified. It would be folly for the Vikings to play their offensive centerpiece, RB Dalvin Cook (shoulder), and backup Alexander Mattison (ankle). With no ground game on which to lean, QB Kirk Cousins should get lifted early. The Bears, after dealing with white-hot Green Bay and Kansas City the past two weeks, get a scheduling break and might be motivated to finish at .500.

Pittsburgh is at seven Unders in a row -- and counting. Its offense is most responsible, having scored in single digits or in the teens in five or those seven games, along with 20 and 23. The Steelers had soured on QB Devlin Hodges and switched to Mason Rudolph, but the latter's ailing shoulder pushes Duck back onto the field. His counterpart, Robert Griffin III, isn’t much better. The Ravens, locked in as a No. 1 seed, will sit numerous starters. The biggest drop-off is from Lamar Jackson to Griffin. Take the Under.

Let’s not hand over the NFC East title to Philadelphia quite yet. New York’s rookie QB, Daniel Jones, lived up to his investment price with a sensational game last Sunday, and running back Saquon Barkley amassed 279 yards in an overtime encounter. Both are fresh, having missed scattered games during the season. The Eagles’ skill position players have suffered an epidemic of injuries, the latest of which is to tight end Zach Ertz (ribs). He might play but would be compromised. Take Philly.

This line has been compressed by the fact that Oakland remains alive in the playoff chase while Denver’s hopes are dead. But the Raiders show barely a pulse and, at a points differential of minus 105, have no business being in this position. Drew Lock, considered a placeholder, is making a case as the long-term Broncos QB. They are 3-1 with him starting, the only loss coming at Kansas City. Denver is on an 8-3 ATS roll and, last Sunday’s Oakland win aside, is the superior team.

Euphoria over Green Bay’s smashing win over Minnesota has driven this spread too high. It’s a tough ask to play on the road Monday night and again Sunday afternoon. The Packers’ 21st-ranked offense is not dynamic enough to be spotting so many points. The rivals’ first meeting this season resulted in a mere one-point win by the Pack. And its stifling of the Vikings’ offense requires an asterisk, given that Minnesota was playing without its top two running backs.

      MON 12/23
Anyone want to play RB for Seattle? Injuries to three ball-carriers over the past few weeks left the Seahawks with just one healthy rusher after their last game. That would be Travis Homer, a rookie who was the 204th overall draft pick. San Francisco has no shortage of incentive, with a possible No. 1 seed in its sights. Seattle also can improve its playoff seeding but, having failed to cover in its last three outings, is limping toward the finish line.

Buffalo is one of two teams locked into a playoff seed - fifth in the AFC - and likely will limit or sit its starters. The Jets were eliminated long ago but have built end-of-season momentum with five wins in their last seven games. The Falcons appear to be playing for coach Dan Quinn’s job. Under fire, he is getting the most out of his talent - perhaps too late - as Atlanta has won three in a row. Tampa Bay QB Jameis Winston is a breathing highlight/lowlight film - big gains, but too many turnovers. Hamstring injuries have left his receiving cupboard almost bare. Mike Evans (hamstring) is on IR and Chris Godwin (hamstring) is likely out. Winston will take too many risks with a second-tier group.

The media will make this one about Marshawn Lynch's return to Seattle's backfield in a clutch situation, but the story will end up being about both defenses. Where San Francisco has had its issues is against QBs that can move around. Seattle's Russell Wilson will make a last-ditch effort for MVP with his performance in this one. Plus, the Seahawks will do a great job keeping 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo off his game.

Everything went according to plan last week for the Raiders to remain in the playoff hunt. Obviously, they have to take care of business here first. The Broncos are playing for pride and the satisfaction of ending a division rival's season. I don't envision the Raiders laying a complete egg in this game. The half-point is what makes me hesitant to pick Denver to cover.

Rookie QB Kyler Murray may not play because of a hamstring injury. He's 'limited' and wants to play, but I don't know if the Cardinals will permit it in a meaningless game. With that being the backdrop, I like the Rams' chances of covering this spread at home and closing out their season with a victory. Arizona QB Brett Hundley is capable, but he doesn't pose the same threat a healthy Murray would.

The reason for this line can be tied to the fact that Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and other key starters won't play. The reason I still think Baltimore wins is that its reserves are just as talented. QB Robert Griffin III will get an opportunity to prove he can be a starter once again. Plus, Steelers QB Devlin Hodges' confidence level is low because of last week's benching and a rash of turnovers. The Ravens would love to end the season for the Steelers, who need a win and some help to get into the playoffs.

A win and the Eagles are in the playoffs. But they face a tough test against a Giants team that took them to overtime a few weeks ago. New York's offense has shown the ability to put points on the board. Rookie QB Daniel Jones played his best game last week against Washington, finishing with five touchdown passes and - most importantly - no turnovers. I don't see this one being decided by more than a field goal.

Look for a defensive slugfest as both offenses have been a bit inconsistent of late. Indianapolis has the better defense, quarterback, offensive line and passing game in this matchup. The Jaguars are a true 'wild card', as you don't know what effort you're going to get from them on a weekly basis. I do think having RB Leonard Fournette makes a difference, but not enough of one in order for Jacksonville to pull off an upset.

This is a play-in game for the Titans and, in a way, a playoff-seeding contest for Houston, so expect it to be highly competitive. Tennessee will come in at full strength, as RB Derrick Henry returns. Also, the Texans could take their foot off the gas if they decide they are locked into the fourth seed. What we do know is that the Titans can't afford to let up, as they need a win to get in. They will play tough throughout.

The defensive turnaround by the Chiefs has been the biggest story in the second half of the season. Because of that, it makes them a serious contender to get to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for the Chargers, they haven't been able to avoid inconsistency on offense. They can be a thorn in the Chiefs' side in this one, but if you remember, Kansas City began to get it right defensively against this Chargers team in Mexico City earlier this season.

Even if it doesn't, I don't think it would matter as the Jets have been playing much better on both sides of the ball since these teams met in their season opener. Panthers QB Will Grier had some good moments in his first start last weekend. So from a Carolina perspective, all you want to see in this one is progress from your 2019 third-round draft pick. The Saints still are playing for playoff seeding and will come in with a game plan that's on full throttle. That means the defense will look to be extra-aggressive against a rookie QB.

The Broncos are 3-1 SU and ATS since Drew Lock took over, the only stumble coming at Kansas City, which is understandable. Denver is playing with revenge and would love nothing more than to squash Oakland's slim playoff hopes. The last thing in the world the books want to do right now is move this line to 3.5 points because they know what's coming the moment they do. With the Seahawks injury news, the public is pounding San Francisco as a road favorite here, but the line refuses to move. And that's because Seattle +3 is the right side of the line. I know things look dark, but Russell Wilson is healthy, and that's all that matters. The fact Seattle is 14-7 ATS as a home dog under Pete Carroll doesn't hurt my confidence, either.

The Chiefs still have an outside shot at a first-round bye, so they will approach this game as if it's important. That's good news for us, because as I've mentioned here before, the Under has been a profitable play in Chiefs home games under Andy Reid. It's 36-16-1 overall, and with this being a divisional matchup with forecasts calling for windy conditions, I like it even more.

Houston coach Bill O'Brien has said that his starters will play in this game, and maybe he's telling the truth, but how much are they going to play? Unless the Chiefs somehow lose to the Chargers, the Texans are locked into their seed. Meanwhile, the Titans are in with a win, so there isn't much question to their motivation. So, unless the Texans get stupid and think it's more important to keep a division rival out of the playoffs than it is to make sure they're rested and healthy themselves, the Titans should win and cover here.

When the Steelers go on the road under Mike Tomlin, they follow a script. They're conservative on offense and try to win with defense. It's worked well for them over the years, and it's worked really well for the Under. Since 2013 the Under has gone 43-15 in Steelers road games. With the Ravens likely to rest key players, and the Steelers needing to rely on Duck Hodges, I like the chances of it moving to 44-15.

The Seahawks are without their top three RBs and had to sign Marshawn Lynch. They will rely on RB Travis Homer, who has 4.45 speed, for some big plays and also brought in Robert Turbin. Running the ball is not about the rusher, it's about the offensive line and running schemes. Seattle has the 12th man, QB Russell Wilson and coach Pete Carroll. Give me the Seahawks.

It is amazing that the Raiders have a slim shot at the final AFC playoff spot. They need to win here and have Houston beat Tennessee, Baltimore top Pittsburgh and Indianapolis defeat Jacksonville. The problem is, that scenario has dropped the betting line to just -3.5. The Broncos have the better defense, a solid home-field advantage, a rookie QB that has supplied some energy and the motivation of knocking one of their rivals out of the chase.

If the Ravens were playing all of their starters, the line on this game would favor them by 17. Robert Griffin III is one of the best backup QBs in the league and fits the offense Baltimore runs for Lamar Jackson. The Steelers' numerous injuries have caught up to them over the past few weeks. Delvin Hodges basically is a fourth-string QB. Baltimore would love nothing more than to knock its biggest rival out of the playoff hunt.

In the previous matchup, the Grizzlies nearly squandered a late 10-point lead. Thanks to rookie G Ja Morant, overtime was not needed as he made the game-winning basket with less than a second remaining. That result, as well as the home-court edge, should give the Grizzlies confidence against a Hornets team playing on consecutive nights.

Duquesne's firepower has led it to a 10-1 record, but the team is just 5-6 ATS. Marshall has the ability to hang around in this one and match the Dukes' scoring prowess. With both teams coming off an extended holiday break, look for sloppy play and an ATS-friendly result for the Thundering Herd.

The Titans have one last opportunity to secure a wild-card spot after suffering back-to-back tight losses to Houston and New Orleans. The Texans are expected to rest QB Deshaun Watson and WR DeAndre Hopkins, so the Titans should have more than enough firepower to pull away in this one.
