6-Unit Play: Take 619 Northeastern +2.5 over Will & Mary (7 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 30)

I'm taking the points with Northeastern on Thursday. The Huskies have been good for the bankroll on the road against teams with a winning home record, covering 10 of the last 14. They're normally undervalued in this role and they are again tonight in our betting opinion. Northeastern lost 66-64 to William & Mary earlier this season and they're on a 13-4 ATS run in road revenge of a loss by 3 or less. The Huskies didn't play one of their better games in the loss, yet came within a 3-pointer of winning the contest despite the fact William & Mary made 55% of their FGA. Each of the Huskies last 4 losses came by 2 points -- and their last 5 losses came by a grand total of 13 points. Northeastern enters with the 6th best offensive effective FG percentage in college basketball! William & Mary is not too hot in the defensive FG percentage category and they have issues in the defensive turnover department where they force just 10 per game. Add in Northeastern's solid shooting in conference play and we have a play on the Huskies. I'm taking the points with Northeastern on Thursday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

3-Unit Play: Take 690 Portland St. -1 over Montana (10:05 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 30)

I'm backing Portland State on Thursday. Montana has had their issues on the road covering just 3 of their last 12 and PSU has been money in this spot, covering 9 of their last 11 at home against teams playing less than .400 road basketball. The Grizzlies have serious issues on the glass and while they don't get to the FT line too often, they have committed a lot of PFs, allowing the opposition to camp out at the charity stripe. In fact, they average less than 10 made FTs per game on the road, while allowing nearly 21 made FTs. We have the much better rebounding team and Portland State knows how to fill the basket at home, averaging over 83 ppg, while holding their guests to 71 ppg. Portland State had a horrible second half in this season's first meeting, a Montana win. The Vikings finished 0-11 from the 3-point line in the defeat, while Montana hit 60% of their FGA. Stanford and Oregon State will be coming into tonight's matchup on losing streaks. Oregon State has lost 4 of their last 5, while Stanford has dropped 2 extremely close games in a row. I must say, i like that Stanford lost their previous two games, they need this win more than OSU if they want to compete with Oregon at the top of the Pac12. Stanford is still in excellent shape as they are 15-4, 11-1 at home, and 13-6 ATS. Not only has Stanford won the last 4 matchups vs OSU, but they have covered the number in 3 of those 4 wins. You know my favorite two ingredients.. defense and rebounding. Both teams are about even in rebounding, however, Stanford blows OSU out the water when it comes to playing defense. Stanford ranks 7th in the country in defensive efficiency. Stanford actually has a fantastic offense, they just play at a slow pace. They are 10th in FG% and 15th in 3pt%. They may not average 80PPG, but they can put up 80+ on any given night, especially vs this swiss cheese Oregon State defense. It will be bombs away from 3 point land all night. I absolutely love Stanford at home, they play the type of basketball where the home crowd really helps. It is much harder to control the pace of the game as Stanford likes to do, when on the road. Stanford, 4-2 in conference play needs this one bad. They are too good on offense and defense for this game to even be close at home. Stanford in a blowout.

Colorado is playing MUCH better basketball than the UCLA right now and will look to bury the already dead bruins even one foot deeper tonight. Colorado enters tonight 16-4 overall, covering 7 of their last 9 games. UCLA is 10-10 on the year, 2-4 ATS in their last 6, and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. I'd just like to say, I do not blame this failure on first year coach Mick Cronin. Cronin was not able to recruit his guys and now has to deal with the players that last years coach left him. Not a great group of kids, sorry. Colorado is averaging 72PPG while UCLA is averaging a measily 62 points in their last 5 games. That is a 10 point difference on offense... and offense isnt even Colorado's specialty, yikes! They have all of my favorite ingredients, what is not to like. The Buffs ranks 23rd on defense, 29th in defensive rebounding, and 73 in offensive rebounding. Defense is what is going to win this game. This is an ELITE defense, when UCLA has to go up against defenses like this, things do not go well. Colorado sort of reminds me of Stanford, who beat up on UCLA by 15 points a few games ago. They are literally better than UCLA in every important category so I will not continue to bore you with the stats. The Buffs are excellent in conference play, as they enter tonight 6-2. KENPOM ranks UCLA 130th in the country, to Colorado's 19th ranking. Two teams going in opposite directions. You have to go with Colorado here, this UCLA team STINKS and will struggle mightily with the stingy Buffs defense. Colorado all day, and night!

I love this number, plain and simple, this should be a 6.5 goal total NOT 6. So many stats show that this Preds team is edging every team they play into a high scoring game, they've gone over the total in 10 of their last 13 games on the road and 11 of their last 12 vs East conference opponents. The Devils are coming off a 4-3 game vs the Sens and will continue to see the puck go in for them in the 2nd half of the season. The Devils have plenty of talent up front with Hughes, Gusev and company...
Follow the Over train with the Nashville Predators, they'll keep going just like they did last night against the Washington Capitals.
