As per your selection on the Pittsburgh Penguins, we feel as if this is a great spot to back them as they have a bit of revenge on their mind as they lost to this very Philadelphia team 3-0 in their last game before the All-Star Break. Prior to that loss, the Pens had won six of seven and had rocketed up the Metro standings. Tonight, they get back in the win column against a Philly team who a completely different team on the road (10-13-2) compared to at home (17-4-4). The Penguins also own one of the best home records and with essentially a healthy lineup to throw at the Flyers, we don't see the Penguins losing back to back games to the Flyers.

Its going to be a very emotional game tonight at the Staples Center and I see defense being the key to this Western Conference matchup. The Blazers have been putting up big numbers on the scoreboard as of late but the Lakers defense will be the big difference this game stays 'Under' the total. The Lakers last game was almost a week ago on the road in Philly and they lost 108-91 and tonight we could see the Lakers come on a bit cold but their team 'D' will be on point. Portland is 4-10 O/U in their last 14 road games and the last 9 meetings in LA 8 of them have gone 'Under'.

3-Unit Play #501 Take Toronto -4.5 over Detroit (7 p.m. EST, Friday Jan 31)

Toronto is coming in on a back-to-back, but they barely broke a sweat last night against the Cavs. That was their ninth straight win. We don't see them letting up here. Detroit has lost four straight and this team just has not been playing with any enthusiasm lately. Injuries have staked up and everyone is on the trade block, so it's no wonder why this team hasn't played with a sense of purpose lately. We think this could be a double-digit win for the road team.

2-Unit Play #503 Take Chicago/Brooklyn OVER 223 (7:30 p.m. EST, Friday Jan 31)

When a couple lousy teams hook up in a Friday game like this, and they are teams that play inconsistent defense, you can have a good idea the game will be a barnburner. And we think that's the case here. The Bulls have the better defense, but they have been pourous in that area lately, and that has led to the over hitting in four of their last five. The Nets have gone over in four of five as well. We just see the pace here as being fluid and we expect both teams to get their points in a likely close game.

6-Unit Play #513 Take Portland +13 over LA Lakers (10:30 p.m. EST, Friday Jan 31)

Since the game against the Lakers and Clippers was cancelled, bettors have been looking to this game as the first game after the Kobe Bryant tragedy where the Lakers will win one for Kobe. But as a result we knew this line would be inflated and it has come out even a couple more points than we expected. And it's not like Kobe didn't have friends on the Blazers that will want to play hard in his honor. The Blazers aren't going to roll over and let the Lakers win. We think they give everything they have tonight against a Lakers team that is still grieving. The Blazers have a strong history in this series (10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings in LA and 45-22 ATS as a long-term trend). If the Lakers just play their game they will probably have success but we feel like they might try to hard or do something different than normal. We think there's a great chance for a close game here.

8-Unit Play. Take #508 New Orleans (-6) over Memphis (8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31)

Timing is everything. And I think that we're catching two teams at just the right time. On one side we have Memphis. They have low-key been one of the best bets in the NBA over the last two months, going 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games. They had a seven-game winning streak earlier this month and they are an outstanding 11-2 straight up in their last 13 games. It's generally hard to bet against a team that's on a run like that. However, I think that the Grizzlies have been playing above their heads. And I think that they may have peaked in their last game, blowing out the hapless Knicks 127-106. The Grizzlies also blew a gasket at the end of that game, getting into a fight with New York. I think that whole situation - a trip to NYC, a blowout win, and a brawl - lends itself to a letdown situation here. I think Memphis is due to come back to earth and it could start here.

On the other side we have New Orleans. And this is a team that I think could be on an upswing. Like Memphis, they have been amazing ATS over the last two months, going 16-4 in their last 20 games. They are also a solid 13-7 straight up in those games and now that Zion Williamson has injected some life and excitement (and production) into their lineup this is a team to watch over the final two months of the regular season. The Pelicans are 8-5 SU in their last 13 games. And if you kick out a blowout loss at Boston - which they avenged with a 15-point blowout win on Sunday - just about all of their losses over the past month have come in excessively close games against good teams like Utah and the Clippers.

Memphis only has two losses in their last 13 games. One of them was by 10 points, at home, against this same New Orleans team. I think it is going to be even worse on the road in this game. Beyond that, Memphis going to be playing this one without leading scorer Jaren Jackson (suspension). That's a problem considering how good New Orleans is on the interior and just how much size they are bringing into this game.

The Pelicans beat the Grizzlies on the road, without Zion Williamson, and against Jaren Jackson, just two weeks ago. Now they have Zion, Memphis doesn't have Jackson, and the Pelicans can feed off their home crowd. On top of that, 60% of the betting action in this game is coming down on Memphis but the line has actually jumped up from an open of 4.5 to its current 5.5. That's a classic reverse line movement and I'll play on the sharp side of this one. All this appears to be lining itself up for another win for the home team and I'll roll with the hot Pelicans in this one.

2-Unit Play. Take #501 Toronto (-4.5) over Detroit (7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31)

The Raptors are rolling big time right now winning nine straight to make their overall record 34-14. This team was mostly an afterthought when Leonard went to the West Coast in free agency, but they appear to be hell bent on defending that crown. The East is pretty solid from top to bottom, but the Raps are separating themselves at the top with Milwaukee, Boston and Philly. They believe they can beat anyone, and they have proven it night in and night out so a letdown in the Motor City will be a shock. Take Toronto to get the win.
