Tonight's Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 4 will be my focus. The sequence has a $75,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout and it starts in Race 1.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1

1-Up And Trending (9/5)-Couldn't have started much slower but flew home to miss by a length in 1st start of the year. The morning line could be correct, but I can't fully trust this green 3-year-old.
4-Hoya Saxa (9/2)-Can't seem to find the winning formula but best to not overlook here. My guess is Hudon leaves and controls the fractions and could take a picture for the 1st time.
5-Petro Chrome (10-1)-Might look to get a good early seat and if minds manners can stay in the mix at long odds.
Was on the bench from 9/29 until last week and should be tighter tonight.

Race 2

4-Brookletsjustified (3-1)-Took the short way around in last and barely missed snagging #6 at the wire. Filion is back between the pipes and this time comes back in 1-week instead of 3.
6-Lone Wolf Terror (2-1)-Flew home in 53.3 after trailing the field by 15 at the first call. Looks like a major player versus many of the same and shorter field improves chances.

Race 3

6-Hockey Hanover (7/2)-Made a miscue in last as a 9/5 favorite and jumped off-stride. McNair may blast out to get the top and control the pace. If that happens chances for a picture goes up.
7-Sortie (5-1)-Not sure if 5-1 is worth the risk because of breaking issues but might be overlooked at the windows. Moves up after a nice win and maybe thing are changing for the better, as there have been clean lines in 2 of last 3 starts.
8-Monopoly (5/2)-Was turned out this past summer and now makes 4th start of this year. Was overmatched in previous 3 races but fits better with this crew and has won 7 of 32 at Wbsb.

Race 4

1-Fly Beyond (5-1)-Drops after being used hard to get the top and set a brisk pace until fading late. Does have only 1 win in last 26 starts but that came recently on 2/1. Will respect chances to get the top and stay in the hunt.
3-Hey Livvy (5/2)-Even effort in 1st start off the bench. The Gillis barn has been rolling so this could be go-time in 2nd race of the year. This mare has faced some tough customers and is a big threat if ready.
8-Pikachu Hanover (7/2)-This is a bigger test than last week when raced the back half in 54.3 to cash the biggest check. Form has been too good to dismiss, and post makes for a better price.

Race 5

2-Xelene Bayama (8-1)-Comes off a 10-win year and this might be the spot to snag 1st picture of 2020. Post draw shouldn't hurt chances and drops to a good spot. Could win at a nice price with a good steer from Young.
7-Lucky Player (9/2)-Came up with a very efficient win in 1st start for Cullen barn as an even money chalk. Faces many of the same and could leave again to get a seat near the top of the stack.
9-E R Rhonda (5/2)-9-year-old mare drops back in versus those she has dominated. Even from the outside post best to respect until her form falters versus this kind.

Mahoning Valley - Race #2

#6 Montana Guy	Stretch runner was too late on the scene in his debut but rallied nicely to be 3rd, and off that tightener he should move forward today, and he's got a world of upside too; look out.
#5 Lunar Buck	Speedy sort was 4th behind the pick last time and now adds blinkers, so he should be that much more focused early, from the perfect attack post as well; seems the one to beat.
#3 Frittons Gold	Dicey ML favorite has has his chances yet is now 0-for-6, so while he's a player here, and has several runs that would win this, there's no reason to think today is the day; trying to beat.
Race Summary	That 4-1 ML on the pick seems very especially, especially when you consider he's likely to improve in a big way off what was a very encouraging debut, so play him to win and place, and especially in the the exotics as well, since he looks poised for a breakthrough run.

Mahoning Valley - Race #3

#4 Mister Mobil	Potential price player really woke up on the stretchout last time and now cuts back, but he's got decent sprint form as well, doesn't meet much, and keeps local ace Quinones; finally his time.
#2 Macadoooo Kid	ML favorite has been 2nd in his last two and showed last time he can compete at this level, though neither run was overwhelming, and he'd be an underlay at this 5-2 ML; still, must repspect.
#6 Ole Watashi	Logical contender was a close 3rd behind the chalk last time, making it three out of four good runs, and his tactical speed from this attack post will play out well too; would be no surprise.
Race Summary	That 5-1 ML on the pick would be a big overlay, as he wins this if he can reproduce his last, so wing away if you can sniff 7-2, as that would be well worth it, even though the big run was at two turns last time, since he might simply be getting good, and it's not like there's anyone here to be scared of either.

Mahoning Valley - Race #8

#5 Risky Guy	Stretch runner has been 3rd in his last two and really improved with the run last time, catches a group loaded with speed, and should be winding up off the far turn when all the heat up front begins to take its toll; mows them down in the lane.
#8 Union Grace	Class dropper has been facing eons better at Tampa and will be a real handful here, but note he he's now with Adams, who is 3-for-73 on the year, which makes 3-1 or so a mighty tough pill to swallow; willing to make him prove it on top.
#1 Chromium	Stalker didn't fire in the slop last time but the run on dry land two-back was solid, and he's another who will like the expected hot and contested pace, so if he can work out a trip from the rail, he's in with a puncher's chance; hardly impossible.
Race Summary	Pace makes the race and there's a ton of it here, and there's also a potentially vulnerable favorite signed on too, so the 5 has a lot of appeal, and is worth a play in all the slots, and especially to end the Pk4, as he looks like he's getting all the best of it here, and a win in the 4-1 range would add some value to the sequence.

Turf Paradise - Race #1

#5 Flight Data	Recent form isn't quite as solid as what she's really capable of, but there is some chance for her to land this with a nice, forward trip.
#4 Pontificator	Another who figures to be chasing the pace in the early stages, she has some upside yet in this third start off the layoff.
#3 Amers	Tactical type can sit a really good run just off the splits, and if those pace players show up, this one might come calling late.
Race Summary	Flight Data is quick enough to land this from right up near the front end, and she has won from just off the pace before, something that could benefit her in this group.

Turf Paradise - Race #2

#6 Brechin's Command	Not sure this one is fast enough today, but the race shape should flatter her finishing ability in a spot with almost nothing else but pace.
#1 M C Hamster	Might accidentally luck into a pretty sweet trip here, as she may not be quite quick enough to find the front, but that could lead to a really great pocket trip.
#5 Janet's Mae	She'll be the likely winner at a super short price, but her last two races have been more the exception to her overall form than the rule, so I'm willing to stand against here.
Race Summary	Brechin's Command should get a good finishing trip here, and she has run well over the local footing in the past.

Turf Paradise - Race #5

#2 La Mer	Isn't totally exposed in a couple of turf starts, but I wouldn't want anything shorter than the 5/2 ML offering, as she doesn't really tower over these.
#6 Maria	Finisher may be along too late, but the price figures to be right to try to get her into the gimmicks. Something like the last one might do.
#4 Extra Gorgeous	Was a bit disappointed that she couldn't kick on a bit better than she did from close range last out. That said, she has a little bit of room to improve in this second start off the break, and another great trip should be there.
Race Summary	La Mer is reliable enough and seems to fit here, but I worry she'll get overbet in a spot where is far from a sure thing.

Parx - Race #3

#2 Brother Tez	Showed some speed but was pinned down to the inside in the slop. Probably won't be able to get the lead, which is good since he'll have a very favorable stalking position behind the speedballs.
#1 No Hitter	Drove clear late for a win vs. N3L foes and a similar effort will put him right in the mix vs. several that have been chasing these conditions.
#4 Smart Rags	Was head and head for the lead, went up by a length in upper stretch and failed in the closing yards for 2nd; does well on the front end and will likely to be favor to the end.
Race Summary	Brother Tez can get a good trip as he gets a rider change to Frey, who has clicked off 20-percent success. A good play for the exotics, mainly because some of the speed ahead of him likely will weaken from early efforts.

Parx - Race #4

#8 Slot	Could be a good flyer to take as he comes out of a sprint in which he had little chance against a much higher level. His two-turn performances have been decent and he has the speed to lead or close to it early.
#9 Kid Mac Cool	Ran an even 4th while a couple steps up from this and has been a feisty competitor at the lower levels.
#10 Printer	Beat non-winners of a year in the slop last out and will be among the early leaders. Can stay for a piece of it.
Race Summary	Slot was drilled doing short vs. tougher foes and should find this class drop and a chance to stretch out to two turns to his liking.

Parx - Race #9

#3 South Sea	Is the price pay here as he was claimed by Velazquez barn (22 percent) last out. He did very little in his last two but has two bullets works in three drills since the claim and gets Carmouche aboard. Likely to shown considerable improvement over his last few.
#1 Spirit Special	Ran a good 2nd at this level after a four-month vacation and could be tougher in his 2nd back from that rest. Has a strong late move on occasion and will get a pace to his liking.
#5 His Name Is Sue	Has taken on outstanding company at Aqueduct lately and held his own in 1 of 2 spots. Won 1 of 2 starts at Parx last fall, both at this level.
Race Summary	South Sea has done well in the morning hours since being haltered by the Velazquez stable and at 12-1 on the morning line, he can fatten up any of the exotics, as well as be a good price in the straight action.

LUNAR BUCK - A good sign that DaCosta tries the 'shades' today and this thoroughbred in his morning prep started from the gate. Should improve. Last time around the track, finished fourth on a track listed as good at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. Should do better in this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 FRITTONS GOLD (ML=2/1), #6 MONTANA GUY (ML=4/1), #2 CAZMAN (ML=5/1),

FRITTONS GOLD - This morning-line choice hasn't visited the track in awhile. No morning drills since last race. MONTANA GUY - Nice race on Feb 1st at Mahoning Valley Race Cour, but the fact that there are no workouts since has to make one a little worried. This questionable contender ran a pedestrian speed fig last time around the track. He shouldn't improve and will probably suffer defeat in today's event running that rating. CAZMAN - Don't believe this runner will make an impact in today's event. That last speed figure was most unsatisfactory when compared with today's class rating.

I think SMART RAGS is a respectable choice. He has a good opportunity in this contest as trainer, Guerrero, has strong win clip with horses going this distance. Looks respectable to be on or close to the lead at the first call. Had one of the best speed figures of this field in his last outing. TRUE WISDOM - Shows formidable speed figs on average overall when matched with the rest of this group. Must be given a shot given the class of races run as of late. SUNRISE SATURDAY - The Equibase Speed Fig of 71 from his latest race looks formidable in here. His 73 average has this gelding with among the most competitive speed figures in this race.

SHES SO VALIANT - Will probably come out very strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved promptly to the front end recently. Is a solid contender - given the 57 speed rating from her most recent race.

MT. RAIN - State bred races are generally easier than 'open' company, and this mare's move into the 'state bred' class today should make her tough in here. As long as Chavez keeps this racer off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a big winner. That 71 fig this mare notched in her last race tells me she's a major player in today's event. Forgive the outside the top 3 finish on the off track last time out. On a fast track, has a good chance in this race. COOL SPRING - This mare is in fine physical condition, having run a nice race on Feb 13th, finishing first. This mare is entered to race right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. She has the topmost earnings per race entered. Take a long look at this one. LIL MS BOSSY PANTS - Trainer Cormier moves this animal to a lower level to face a lower class of horses. Look for a solid performance this time out.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 PAPER DOLL (ML=9/2), #1 LADY DATE (ML=5/1), #3 KEHRON'S CREED (ML=5/1),

PAPER DOLL - You believe this animal is going to be victorious just because she's always close. Just doesn't win regularly. Once you've got at least ten races at the track and still have no triumphs, its tough to break through for a victory. LADY DATE - The rating last time out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a questionable challenger. KEHRON'S CREED - Didn't look so good last time out of the box. Probably won't make an impact in today's event. Difficult to put your dough on the win end of any entrant that finishes second and third as frequently as this one does. The speed figure last time out doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underlay.
