This is the first game of the Sun Belt tourney and we love the match up for Arkansas State. While Louisiana is the host here, we’re going to take the better team getting points. These 2 finished with identical 8-12 records in the Sun Belt but ASU is better in almost every category. If we take a look at the statistics in conference games only, ASU ranks higher in PPG, PPG allowed, scoring margin, FG %, 3-point %, 3-point % defense (FG % defense they are dead even), assists, steals, rebounding margin, and turnover margin. They split their meetings this year with ASU winning by 12 at home and Louisiana winning by 3 on the road. The latter match up is the one we want to focus on as it was just played a week and a half ago. The Rajin Cajuns were favored by 3.5 at home in that game and they won by 3 so the oddmakers came out with same number. We need to look at more than just the final score in that game. ASU led for a large chunk of that game including from the 11:00 minute mark of the first half until less than 10:00 minutes remaining in the game. The Red Wolves largest lead of the game was 14 while Louisiana’s largest lead was just 7. Breaking down the game further, Louisiana led by more than 3 points for less than 6:00 minutes of the entire game. The Cajuns attempted 11 more FG’s and made 5 more 3-pointers yet the game still came to the wire. Arky State is the 4th best 3-point shooting team in the Sun Belt and Louisiana has the worst 3-point defense in the conference yet in that 3-point loss the Red Wolves made only 3 of 15 from deep (20%). Again even with those numbers, ASU still covered the game and led outright for most of it (including leading with 45 seconds remaining). ULL was just 5-5 at home in conference play while Arkansas State had just as many wins on the road as they did at home in league play. We feel ASU has been undervalued all season long as they’ve been an underdog 20 times and covered 13 of those games (65%). We like them to win this game outright.

Kansas comes into its regular season finale with a straight-up 15-game winning streak after beating TCU 75-66 on Wednesday. Seton Hall’s 79-77 loss to Villanova on Wednesday as a 3 ½-point home favorite keeps the Big East regular season title in play. An earlier 87-82 loss to Creighton as a 5 ½-point favorite at home makes this a must-win at 13-4 in conference play. The Pirates are 21-8 SU overall but they slip to 17-11-1 ATS after failing to cover in four of their last six games. The total has gone OVER in five of those six outings.
