The basic premise of modern football is you need to throw, throw and throw to have success, and the poster child for that argument is the XFL's best team, the Houston Roughnecks. But the BattleHawks are fascinating in that they run far more often than they pass. As a result, they are less likely to get caught in third-and-long situations, which is one reason they lead the league in third-down conversion rate at 51.6 percent. When they do pass, they're ultra efficient, completing 75.2 percent of their passes and averaging 8.04 yards per attempt - easily the best in the league in both categories. The Defenders have completely imploded, and last week's shutout at the hands of previously winless Tampa Bay was the worst game any team has had all season. Maybe being back home will help, but it's hard to back a team that's doing everything wrong against one that has done almost everything right all year.

Though it wasn't reflected on the scoreboard, the Wildcats played excellent football for a second straight week despite losing in their cross-country sojourn to New York. Now it's the Vipers making the cross-country trek while coming off their first win, a dominant performance against the Defenders. Los Angeles has been the better team offensively, featuring a passing game with the best yards-per-completion mark in the league, but Tampa Bay has the edge on the defensive side, where it has allowed the lowest completion percentage in the league. But part of the Vipers' success on the defensive side of the ball is the fact that they faced the three worst offenses in the league over the first four weeks of the season. With that strength of schedule in mind, and with the tough travel spot, the Wildcats get the edge in this matchup.

Illinois is a much better offensive team at home, averaging 76.7 points, which far surpasses its road average of 65.9. The Illini are 14-3 at home while Iowa is just 4-6 on the road. My model says the Pistons cover more than 60 percent of the time, so you're getting good value with Detroit at this number. Take the points.
