Early Pick 3 on the card at Oaklawn Park begins with Race 2 at 2:58 p.m. ET and ends with Race 4.
Oaklawn 2nd
2 Red Lingerie (10-1): Has lost her last two races by a combined 37 lengths, but I think there is reason for optimism. Her race on Feb. 2 was against maiden claiming $50,000 and off a short layoff. She showed good speed to the turn, got squeezed a little and then coasted home. In her last race, she dropped to maiden claiming $25,000, again tracked a solid pace going a route and was in contention at the six-furlong mark but tired and was not pushed down the stretch. She's now on her third race off a layoff, cuts back in distance and drops to maiden claiming $12,000, probably where she should have been all along. Ready for best effort.
7 Prairie Dress (5-2): Should be the pace pressure on Red Lingerie. Improved in second start and drops again to this class.
4 Elsie's First (6-1): Similar to Red Lingerie - drops in price, cuts back to sprint - but has not shown the early pace of Red Lingerie. May be running late.
10 Lil Respect (10-1): Started career with four races that would beat this field. However, after being claimed, she has now run two poor races, including finishing sixth as the favorite in last. No obvious excuse, but may bounce back.
A: 2,7
B: 4,10
Oaklawn 3rd:
9 Bettyann (3-1): Strange lineup for a race that is limited to horses that have never won three races. In fact, six of the nine have never won TWO races. Of the three that fit the condition, Bettyann looks like the clear pick. She has spent most of her career racing in tougher allowance events. Her one drop into a claiming race produced her last win, in November. Since getting to Oaklawn, she has tried in statebred allowances with little success but has continued to show good early pace. She will be the lone "A" selection.
3 Bendi Blu (10-1): Returned in a route off a long layoff, made a slight move into the stretch and was overmatched. Has some back races that are competitive and could move forward off that return run.
A: 9
B: 3
Oaklawn 4th
2 Weast Hill (4-1): Has been facing better and gets some needed class relief. Gelding likes the trip (8-of-24 at the distance) and the track (8-of-20 at Oaklawn Park).
10 Holdthismiss (5-2): Has not raced since February 2019. If he's able to approach any of those efforts, he will win. But that's a big if for the potential favorite. He's a must-use but hard to trust.
8 Academy Bay (3-1): Comes off two solid efforts but still lost both by a neck. Should get perfect trip. Will just have to finish the job.
A: 2,8,10
B: 3,4,5
