    Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

    Canterbury Park - Race #5
#6 Knight's Honor Dangerous firster goes for a capable Richard barn that lures local ace Eikleberry, which is definitely key, especially since that 6/28 bullets say she can run; thinking she's very live.
#7 That Would Be Nice Well drawn homebred goes for a Rengstorf barn that is having a very solid meet (44-9-8-4), shows a few snappy works, and did well to draw a nice attack post for a firster; using.
#4 Molly's Angel ML favorite has two sharp works sandwiched around a pair of slow ones, but Quinonez is here (20% when riding for Padilla), so there's likely some intent here; underlaid contender.
Race Summary Tab the tote on all three above, as any tote action would be a great sign, an with the 6 there's reason to think she's going to fire a big shot if the money shows, so play her to win and place, and especially to kick off the 10% takeout Pk5, as this is the type of race where surviving and advancing could pay dividends at the end.
    Canterbury Park - Race #7
#4 Oaklie Gal Class riser beat Mn breds last time and now faces tougher open foes, but she did it in fast time for this group, and sure doesn't meet much; call right back.
#3 Devil Lady Dropper needed her comeback off the year layoff, so she should be tighter here, but she also didn't do much running and will be very overbet; second-best.
#7 Dusty Princess Deep closer drew poorly, has no speed, and drops off an uninspiring run, and doesn't catch a field with a lot of early pace either; using underneath, if at all.
Race Summary That 9-2 ML on the picks seems pretty generous, as she's winning this if she runs back to her last, class rise and all, and there's no reason to think she can't do it, or at least close to it, so play her in all the slots, and especially the 10% takeout Pk5, and late Pk4 as well, since this is a group there for the taking, and the two ML favorites have a lot to questions to answer.
    Canterbury Park - Race #8
#9 Imminent Threat Price player was 5-1 in a well-bet debut and passed a few late to finish a non-threatening and well beat 5th, but that was sprinting on the dirt, and now he gets two turns on the turf, and the former could really wake up a son of Broken Vow; upset special.
#6 Ms Kela Time ML favorite saw her string of three 2nds to kick off her career end with a disappointing 4th last time, and now she tries turf routing, and that's an unknown, but her stalking/closing style should play in a race that appears to have some early speed; major player.
#4 Gotham City Queen Pace player takes the blinkers off to try and settle better, as she's lost ground late in all four starts, but now she routes on turf, and if was was giving it up in the lane sprinting on dirt, this new gig doesn't seem like it would be the right answer; know her early.
Race Summary You'll get plenty of value on the 9, and she comes out of a fast race for the level and now might wake up even more with the added ground, and the turf, so give her a look in all the slots, and especially the 10% takeout Pk5, and the late Pk4 as well, since she has more upside off that tightener than the rest of this field combined.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mountaineer - Race #1
#10 Our Golden Boy Ran a big second against winners last out at 143-1, so while it's tough to get excited about taking a much shorter price today, anything like that last one would do as he drops back in with friends.
#3 Plug and Play Think the turf might give him a little chance to wake up as he moves into a solid local barn. Would want something like the 6/1 ML price to dive in.
#6 Right the Wrong Speed and fade type was competitive with this kind locally last year, but his two lifetime turf races weren't much to look at, and he'd be fairly unattractive at the 2/1 ML offering.
Race Summary Our Golden Boy ran a bang-up race when in over his head last time out, and while that may have been a fluky run, his other turf sprint wasn't bad either -- might have found his home.
      Mountaineer - Race #2
#7 Dama Leona Stretches out for this one after the dash comeback, and she's back in at a level where she has been competitive in the past.
#1 R Paper Chaser Tactical speed has been sort of one-paced late in recent races, but they have come against better than she's going to find here.
#4 Chesapeake Spring Has some back turf form that would make him a little bit interesting with these, but he'll need better than the tailing off form he showed at the end of his 2019 campaign.
Race Summary Dama Leona is interesting at a price, as she owns the speed to be close up in the early going at this trip, and her turf form has been pretty reliable in the past.
      Mountaineer - Race #8
#3 Event Driven Should get a nice setup with these in a spot with several potential pace players. He looks the most likely to be able to sit off the speed and finish.
#5 Peanuts Perfection Certainly the one to beat, but the trip could be a little tricky with other forward players lined up to face him today. Wouldn't be too excited at something like the 7/5 ML price.
#7 Diamond Rider Class hiker is surely too slow to win this, but a total pace meltdown would potentially allow him to pass some of the fading forward players at a huge number.
Race Summary Event Driven should get the right trip here with some occasional ability to finish from off the splits, and the price figures to be fair with Peanuts Perfection likely to take cash.

        Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

        Indiana Grand - Race #2
#2 Ria Munk Was 2nd vs. strong allowance foes two back at Churchill and was an easy maiden winner at Indiana Grand last year; gets N2L company here and Albarado can have her in good position throughout.
#5 Spitefulness Was 2nd in his last two at Churchill, once in a claiming race and the latest in a starter allowance; troublesome on the front end.
#6 Myeerah Held 2nd while no threat to the winner over this strip last out; can be close to the pace and would not be a surprise.
Race Summary Ria Munk has been in some tough races and can finish full of run as she's turning back in distance.
        Indiana Grand - Race #4
#3 Sterling Miss Has sprint wins in both starts at Indiana Grand this season -- once on the turf and the other on the main track. Gets back to dirt and can record her 3rd straight win.
#5 Inthemidstofbiz Ran on for 3rd in a good turf race and her sprints at Oaklawn will make her a solid player here.
#2 Luna Fortis Was a clear winner in an allowance at Oaklawn in her latest and has done well in the two races for the Contreras stable after a bargain claim for $16,000.
Race Summary Sterling Miss has fired with authority in her last two and can win another if she gets close to either of those performances.
        Indiana Grand - Race #9
#8 One Coldhearted Diva Was up in time in the trial for this and the One Fabulous Eagle filly came in from Remington, where she was an even 4th in a tough maiden spot.
#4 Heza Fast Kisser Had a bit of a rough starts but came on well for 3rd vs. the top choice here; was an easy maiden winner two back.
#1 Cranky Louise Rallied well in her only start, going from 7th to 4th; can get a clear trip inside and is a legit upset possibility.
Race Summary One Coldhearted Diva was a smooth winner of her trial and can make another strong run from the outside part of the track; can get a stakes win here.

Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

          July 20, 2020 | By Al Cimaglia
Tonight, Woodbine Mohawk Park is featuring 2-year-olds in Grass Roots action. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 8 and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

          Race 8

2-Brilliant Corners (3-1)-Comes off a sharp qualifier and went the 2nd half in .55 and the last quarter in 26.4.
Seems to be handy and capable of a nice brush. Filion should keep in striking range.
4-Mr Charisma (7/2)-Was used early on and just fell short in a quick mile. Drury drives and maybe he will look for a more patient approach and seek a stalking trip.
6-Vino Louis (2-1)-Drops down to a better spot after getting on the engine into a quick half. That didn't work as faded badly to finish a well beaten 5th. This is a better opportunity to pick-up 2nd win in 3 starts.

          Race 9

3-Bush Man N (6-1)-One of two Auciello entries drops to a spot to snag 1st win in 6 Wbsb starts. There isn't much difference between #3 and #6 but this guy will probably be a better price. McNair will likely be aggressive from the start.
5-Grand Poobah (3-1)-Drury steers this Auciello pupil. 4-year-old has made almost every start at Wbsb and has 4 wins in 54 tries. Camera shy like his stablemate but this is a soft spot from a good post.

          Race 10

3-Saulsbrook Hero (5-1)-My guess is the plan in the debut was to race near the back and then let the 2-year-old roll in the 2nd half. Mission accomplished, now faces a different crew and could surprise at a nice price if put into striking range.
4-Wise Key K (7/2)-Barn is cold and colt makes its 2nd start but did roll the back half in 55.1 so will include versus this group. Filion is back in the bike, maybe the plan will be to start sooner and be in range at the top of the lane.
6-Bulldog Hanover (3-1)-Went a big mile in 1st start from the 8-hole but couldn't catch #9. Catches a better post draw and should be a major player here.
9-Lawless Shadow (9/2)-Comes off a sharp win in 1st start and was bet like the real deal going off as an odds-on chalk. This won't be as easy starting from post 9 instead of post 2 but still best to respect.

          Race 11

1-Proberts Legacy (8-1)-Had little go well in 1st start off the bench. Makes debut for Fellows barn who has been winning their share. 5-year-old had a 152.3 mark on the 5/8's at Frd. Looking for better at a juicy price in a race without a standout.
4-Walter Mitty (9/2)-Comes back to its favorite track and goes back on Lasix but is 1-13 on the year. McClure should be able to find some live cover and look to roll by down the lane at a square price.
7-Islandspecialmajor (3-1)-Beaten favorite should like the company and JMac could be moving early to get a good seat. Has good gate speed and can come off cover, versatile 7-year-old might take a picture with a good steer.

          0.20 Pick 4

          2,4,6/3,5/3,4,6,9/1,4,7
          Total Bet=$14.40

                      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                      # 2 DISCO DEANO 7/2
                      # 3 LOOK OUT JAYCE 8/1
                      # 12 EMCEE PRIME 5/2
My selection in this competition is DISCO DEANO. Ought to compete admirably in the early speed clash which bodes well with this group of horses in this race. Seems to have a competitive class edge based on the most recent company kept. LOOK OUT JAYCE - Is a solid contender - given the 80 speed figure from his most recent race. He has been running soundly as of late while recording very strong speed figures. EMCEE PRIME - With a very strong 85 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this contest. Overall, has one of the best earnings per start in dirt sprint races in this bunch.

                        Louisiana Downs - Race #7 - Post: 5:49pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,000 Class Rating: 45

                        Rating:

                        #5 BROOKLYN'S GRIP (ML=5/1)
                        #1 TWN PALMYSDESTINY (ML=7/2)
                        #4 LITTLE KATRINA (ML=5/1)

BROOKLYN'S GRIP - This filly is in fine form. Ended up second on Jul 1st. This filly is rounding her way back into shape. Should perform well today. This filly is most obviously on the improve with Equibase speed figures of 25, 31, 40 last 3 out. TWN PALMYSDESTINY - When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after her last outing, it generally means she's fit. This filly should be at the peak of fitness, this far into her form cycle. LITTLE KATRINA - Ran last time around the track against a high class rated field at Evangeline Downs. The move down the class scale should suit her well.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #1A MISCHIEVOUS GIRL (ML=7/2), #2 PEACEFULLY (ML=4/1), #3 CARLETTA (ML=9/2),

MISCHIEVOUS GIRL - I don't normally play a morning-line choice that hasn't been to the track in the last three weeks. PEACEFULLY - Pace is so vital, and this front-runner is going to have a speed battle on her hands. CARLETTA - This filly hasn't had any recent good results in short distance affairs. I find it hard to bet on her in this contest.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 BROOKLYN'S GRIP is going to be the play if we are getting 2/1 or better

                          Prairie Meadows - Race #6 - Post: 6:04pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,414 Class Rating: 72

                          Rating:

                          #6 CACTUS RULES (ML=4/1)
                          #4 FLAT OUT TEN (ML=5/2)

CACTUS RULES - This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Corbett gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. This rider and handler's animals have been generating a beneficial ROI. Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. FLAT OUT TEN - This mare's last speed rating recorded on June 26th is utmost in last race speed figures. This horse is at the top in earnings per race. She looks solid in today's clash. This mare is in nice physical condition. Ended up first on June 26th. Getting a weight break of 5 pounds from last race at Prairie Meadows on Jun 26th. Should make the difference in this race. Here is an appropriate handicapping angle that I've used many times before. Play a filly (like this one) getting Lasix for the 2nd time.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #5 RUNFORUSRUN (ML=2/1), #1 CHA CHA NOW Y'ALL (ML=5/1), #3 SUPERSERG (ML=6/1),

RUNFORUSRUN - This animal hasn't shown too much in the last couple races. One should normally not wager on a entrant in the next run after finishing off the board following a long layoff. CHA CHA NOW Y'ALL - 5/1 is just not enough of a reward to take on most any mount that has run poorly in back to back outings. Didn't hit the board on July 3rd after the long breather. Be doubtful of this horse in today's event. Tough to put your cash on the win end of any horse that finishes second and third as often as this entrant does. Finished fourth in his most recent effort with a pedestrian fig. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field. SUPERSERG - This animal doesn't have a conquering nature. Often finishes close, but no cigar. Don't believe this less than sharp equine will make an impact in today's event. That last speed rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - CACTUS RULES - I'm always on the lookout for this handicapping angle. A sprinter on the immediate comeback.

DF LAWTON is my choice. Is difficult not to look at based on Equibase speed figs which have been competitive - 74 avg - of late. This horse enters today's race on Lasix. Should keep the good string of finish positions intact this time around. FRIDA SOFIA - Ruiz has her trained soundly to break promptly out of the starting gate. Has performed admirably recently in short races, posting a nifty 78 avg speed rating. KUHL CASH - Looks very strong to be up on the lead at the first call. Has to be given consideration in this event if only for the decent speed rating earned in the last race.
