Has been running quite well and has among the strongest speed in the race for today's distance. Ortiz has been hot the last month, winning at a nifty 21 percent clip. TAPNFIRE - With one of the most respectable riders in terms of profits at the window, don't count this mare out. WOOD NOT MIND - Is a sharp contender based on figures put up lately under today's conditions.

ROSE'S GALAXY - The jockey and conditioner combination have a favorable ROI when they team up. Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this horse has the highest speed rating for the dist-surf. Was in a $17,500 Optional Claiming race at Louisiana Downs last time around the track. That clash had a class rating of 89 and he is moving down in this field. A certain win candidate. FREEDOMFI - This should be an easier task than what he was asked last time out against 'open' company. I like that most recent contest on Jul 28th at Louisiana Downs where he ran fifth. HALOSTAR - I have to believe Delany is making a good move here. This gelding can only be aided by the shorter distance. I do like the fact this gelding is back in a race so quickly. Have to make this gelding a strong challenger; he comes off a good effort on Jul 31st. RICHARD RONALD - Average class figure is tops in this field. I think that is a big advantage for a grass race. He has the top earnings per start. Check out this one.

LIKE MIKE - Difficult to wager on any thoroughbred in a short distance contest at 7/2 when he hasn't shown any on the board results in sprints in the last 60 days. Nice race on July 15th at Louisiana Downs, but the fact that there are no workouts since has to make one a little worried. A runner should have more zip at 1 mile to get my juices flowing about his chances of winning at 7 1/2 furlongs. JOHNNYSJOURNEY - Will be tough for this horse to beat this bunch off of that last speed figure. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put him on the likely underlays list.
