This is strictly a value play. The Reds rank fourth in MLB in HR rate, and they're fourth in ISO as well. This is a potent offense. A potent offense that's been a bit unlucky as they also have a BABIP of .233. Only the Rangers have been worse. For a team that makes so much solid contact, that's bound to balance out soon, and tonight they're facing Mike Clevenger. A pitcher who gets a lot of swings and misses, but does get tagged sometimes when he doesn't miss bats.

It's not often you see a total this high in a game with Max Scherzer on the mound, but that's what happens when the other starter is Rick Porcello. Unfortunately I don't like either the moneyline or spread price, so instead I'll attack this total. Neither one of these offenses has been explosive. The Mets team ISO ranks 26th in MLB while the Nats are at a slightly below average 16th. That should keep the scoring to a minimum.

The White Sox offense has been one of the best in baseball through the first couple of weeks, but tonight's matchup against Adrian Houser isn't a great one for the Pale Hose. On the other side of the coin, Dallas Keuchel has been vintage Keuchel through his first two starts and he's facing a Milwaukee offense that seems lost right now. Mix in two bullpens that have pitched very well, and we're not going to see as many runs as you might think.

Things don't go well for flyball pitchers against the Minnesota Twins, and that's the situation tonight with Trevor Williams starting for the Pirates. Now, Williams doesn't give up a lot of hard contact compared to other MLB starters, but he doesn't miss a lot of bats, either. The Bomba Squad might not go nuclear, but they'll have enough success to make it worth the price.

So if your eyes popped open at seeing a Yankees game with a total of 7.5, I hope you remembered that before firing away. Of course, even if you didn't, the Over is still a great play here. It's Yankee Stadium, it's nearly 90 degrees, and the wind is blowing out. Large men are going to hit small balls a long way.
