    L.A. DODGERS -172
    L.A. DODGERS @ L.A. ANGELS | 8/14 | 9:40 PM EDT
    10:03 AM
The Angels are 0-11 straight up as a home dog of +140 or higher after a game in which they left fewer than 10 men on base and 0-6 straight up as a home dog after they hit multiple home runs, losing every game by multiple runs. Meanwhile the Dodgers are 8-0 straight up on the road coming off a home game in which their bullpen did not allow a run and their starter did not pitch more than seven innings. They are also a perfect 7-0 since 2010 on the road with Clayton Kershaw when he went fewer than five innings in his previous start. In those seven starts, Kershaw allowed a total of six runs. We are on the Dodgers.

The D-backs are 0-6 straight up when their opponent’s starter has an ERA of less than 2.50 on the season and 0-12 straight up as a dog before the 80th game of the season when they are off a game in which they had multiple multiple-run innings and did not win by 15 or more runs. Meanwhile the Padres are 16-0 straight up before their 95th game of the season as a favorite coming off a five-plus run loss as a road dog in which their starter allowed fewer than 10 runs. We are on San Diego.

    WASHINGTON -157
    WASHINGTON @ BALTIMORE | 8/14 | 7:35 PM EDT
    9:50 AM
Washington is coming off a loss to the Mets in which the Nats managed only five hits. They have traditionally rebounded in this situation, going 7-0 straight up as a road favorite of more than +130 when they are off a game in which they had more strikeouts than hits, winning by an average of 4.57 runs. The Orioles are coming off a romp over Philadelphia but are 0-10 straight up at home after a game as a road dog in which they scored in at least four innings. More importantly, Baltimore is 0-9 straight up as a home dog in the first game of a series when they are coming off a road series and its opponent is seeking same-season revenge for a loss.

I had some concerns about the Capitals' defense and goaltending coming into this series, and Game 1 didn't do a whole lot to ease those concerns. The Isles were the much better team at five-on-five, and their defensive structure should continue to give the Capitals some trouble. If the Caps can't clean it up on the back end, they won't be sticking around very long. For now, the value is in New York.

        TAMPA BAY @ TORONTO | 8/14 | 6:37 PM EDT
The Rays come to Buffalo to play the Blue Jays riding a six-game win streak with their bats smoking, batting .320 and averaging 7.9 runs a game in their last seven. Trevor Richards was pushed into the starter role because of injuries to two Rays starters. Tanner Roark gave up four runs in his last start and the Blue Jays' bats appear to like Buffalo as they’ve scored 16 runs combined in two two games. Over is the top play Friday.

The Cubs own the best record in baseball, yet they are a home underdog here ... that's fishy. The Cubs have won seven straight home games, and Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff is 0-1 with a 5.37 ERA in his career vs the Cubs in six starts. Chicago's Tyler Chatwood has pitched well so far this season and is 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA in his career vs the Brewers. Milwaukee has dropped eight of its past 11 games at Wrigley.

This is a low total but for good reason as these are two hot goalies who aren't giving up anything. Montreal's Carey Price is giving his team a chance to win every game with his stellar play in net. Carter Hart has been just as good for the Flyers, and no reason not to expect another 2-1 kind of game here as in the series opener. The Under has cashed in seven straight for the Flyers and six of the last seven games the Canadiens have played against the East. The Flyers have won 13 of their last 14 games overall and dominated this series with defense. Bet Under at +115.

          9:19 AM
This was a low-scoring defensive battle in Game 1, and expect this to be the same. The Coyotes had a few bad minutes in the opener and it cost them big in a 3-0 loss. Darcy Kuemper was solid in net and will need to be even better if they are going to have any chance in this series. The Avalanche are one of the toughest defensive teams in the NHL as they don't allow goals or a lot of scoring chances, period. The Under has now cashed in 18 of the past 23 games for Colorado. Back Under at -130.

The benefit of Tyler Chatwood allowing eight runs in his last start at Kansas City is that we get a great price Friday on the hot Cubs. He’s at home, the wind is blowing in a bit, and in two home starts he’s looked like Cy Young with a 0.71 ERA. Most of all, the Cubs are on fire right now, riding a three-game win streak and winning nine of their last 10. The Brewers have lost five of their last seven. Take the Cubs to win.

Gerrit Cole has given up three runs in two of his three starts. He’s won all three and the total has gone Over in all three. Boston has lost four straight and all four went Over the total. The wind is blowing in slightly from center, but the battered Red Sox bullpen should provide enough flames to get this one Over the total Friday.

Last season, the Indians went 18-1 against the Tigers and 8-1 at Comerica Park. Ivan Nova is starting for the Tigers and he is 1-0 with a 5.74 ERA this season. In his career, he is 3-3 with a 4.22 ERA in seven career starts against the Indians. Aaron Civale is 4-6 with a 2.47 ERA in his career if that shows how little run support he has gotten. However, he faced the Tigers twice last season and went 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA. Lay the favorite.

Chad Kuhl is making the start for the Pirates, and he has made three appearances this season totaling to nine innings pitched and two earned runs. He has not gone more than four innings in any of his outings. Sonny Gray is starting for the Reds, and he actually got roughed up a bit by the Brewers giving up four runs in 5.1 IP. He is 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA in his career against the Pirates in five starts and six appearances. Both of these bullpens are bottom five in the league in ERA with the Pirates at 5.54 runs per game and the Reds at 6.45 runs per game. Take the over.

Lance Lynn has looked like a Cy Young candidate to start this season and he is 2-0 with a 1.16 ERA. He actually faced the Rockies earlier this season at home and threw six scoreless innings. He is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four career starts at Coors Field, and he is facing Ryan Castellani who is making his second career Major League appearance. He has never pitched at Coors Field, but he did pitch four scoreless innings in his debut. Take the under.

Dinelson Lamet has faced the Dbacks twice already this season and he has absolutely owned them. He has thrown 11.2 innings and given up two earned runs total, but this will be his third start against Lamet in three weeks. Merrill Kelly faced the Padres last start and he actually got the win throwing six innings and giving up one run. If the Dbacks are ever going to figure out Lamet, it will be facing him for the third time in three weeks. The Dbacks bats seemed to wake up in Colorado, take them at home with plus money.

Both of these teams are defensive minded with very good goalies behind them. Carey Price was 27-25-6 with a 2.79 GAA and .909 save percentage while Carter Hart was 24-13-3 with a 2.42 GAA and .914 save percentage. In the four games these teams played against each other in the regular season, they each averaged 2.5 goals per game. The first game these teams played ended 2-1, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar again.

The Caps will be without Nicklas Backstrom tonight who is believed to be in concussion protocol due to Anders Lee’s illegal check in Game 1. Luckily, the Caps will get Lars Eller back from paternity leave to sure up that second line center spot. They were up 2-0 before they fell apart and the Isles scored four unanswered goals in their first game. Look for the Caps to play a full 60 tonight and take Game 2.

The Dodgers are 5-1 in their last six games vs. left-handed starters, and I think they'll break through against Patrick Sandoval despite his strong season.

On Friday, the Marlins have their first home game of the season. At 8-4, their record amid chaos and heavy personnel changes is remarkable. Yet, look for the Braves to get after Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez. Lopez’s ERA of 1.80 has not been tested due to short outings of five innings each in his first two starts.

On consecutive nights, the Dodgers have seen an uptick in offense that fans have been accustomed to seeing. Eleven total runs Thursday night matched a season-high, with Mookie Betts hitting a whopping three home runs. Yet, Clayton Kershaw has shown some red flags that aren't reflected in Friday's price.

On Thursday, the Pirates used nine runs in the first two innings to build an insurmountable lead over the Reds. Extended bullpen use by both teams will be a factor heading into Friday’s matchup. Yet, look for the Pirates to get another victory as the Reds continue to falter against pre-season expectations.

In their last matchup against the Denver Nuggets, the Clippers used a strong fourth quarter to surge past the number. On Friday, they’ll face an Oklahoma City Thunder team that will be without both Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder. But look for OKC's youth-laden lineup of Darius Bazley, Terrance Ferguson, Hamidou Diallo, and Luguentz Dort to relish in the spotlight. Grab the Thunder.

Dennis Schroder is back for the Thunder, so it won't be a meaningless game for him. With both teams resting key guys for the playoffs, I'll take the points with an OKC team that never mails it in, as evidenced by Wednesday's huge comeback versus Miami.
