Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 5 Analysis

Woodbine Mohawk Park has 11 races schedule for tonight. The popular 0.20 Early Pick 5 with a $75,000 guaranteed pool kicks off the card and will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1

1-Docs Harmony (5/2)-Takes a meaningful drop in class and should be able to make good use of drawing the rail. Drury steers for Team Cullen and this filly could be sitting on a big try.
3-Lyons Tilt Hanover (5-1)-Last week, was a country mile behind at the 1st call and sizzled the back half in 53.3 to miss by a head. Now makes the 2nd try for the Beaton barn and should be better with an alert start.
8-Hit By A Bus (8-1)-Filion takes a seat and the filly has won 2 of 9 at Wbsb and has finished 2nd twice. Looking for an aggressive start and things could set-up nicely for this price shot.

Race 2

6-Its Huw You Know (7/2)-Won for Barrington off the claim and then stepped up and found the going much tougher and it was on an off track where record is 0-17. Now drops down to the same level as the claim and should be a major player.
7-Mister Magic (5/2)-Drops to a spot to shine, likes the track (56-16-8-4) but comes off 2 consecutive breaks. Did qualify well and if minds manners could be posing with a big try.
8-Marquis Volo (9/2)-Won a condition race on 8/11, then came back on 3 days rest and was bet down to 3/2 but faded down the lane. Now back on a regular cycle and drops in for a tag. Will look for better versus this field and the post makes the price.

Race 3

2-Mach My Kiss (4-1)-Was off 15 days from race date to date of last start on 8/15 and still picked up a 2nd place check. Now goes back in at this class and is a perfect 2-2 at this level. McNair will have this filly racing near the top of the stack, looks like a main player.
5-Mary Kat (10-1)-JMac is back and he knows well. Even effort in last but expect more tonight. This is a good post draw to stalk and rally. Competitive filly should be a nice price and it's best to respect.

Race 4

1-Refi (9/2)-Raced well versus better and looking for big effort with an inside post draw. Usually in the hunt, 21-6-3-3 at Wbsb.
5-Cool Muscle (4-1)-Has gotten better with the addition of Lasix and this will be the 4th time racing with the medication. Drops to a more comfortable spot, has done well so far this year posting 3 wins and hitting the board in 6 of 8 starts.
6-Steuben Hanover (7/2)-Will toss last break at GeoD versus tough company. Last 2 Wbsb starts have been very good and almost won from the 8 hole at this class on 7/28.

Race 5

3-Budha Blue Chip (5/2)-On 8/4 posted a win at this class for Moreau. This will be the 1st start for the same barn after an 8/17 claim and should be bet. Maybe the same script, same outcome?
8-PL Idaho (8-1)-Was claimed from Moreau for $25,000 on 7/27 and has been winless in 3 tries for Montini. Now drops in for a $20,000 tag. JMac can work a winning trip from out here if the cover flow is good and the pace is honest.

Finger Lakes - Race #2

#1 Queen Roller	Stretch out sprinter goes second-off the Ferraro claim after a very solid dueling 3rd in her sprint return, figures as the inside speed, and meets an extremely weak field; imposing.
#5 Patriot Lady	Longshot was well behind 'Queen last time but has some solid two-turn form from last year, so while she isn't a win threat, she may spice things up underneath; exotics appeal.
#7 Twofreeknights	Stalker will get a lot of EX consideration, and this outside attack post in theory helps, but she'll also be wide throughout, and chasing the 1 early won't help her late; tread lightly.
Race Summary	You certainly won't get rich on the 1, but anything over even-money seems like a gift, so play her aggressively to win if the tote allows, though you can get some guaranteed value by singling her in the early Pk4, as this looks like a name the score type of spot for her.

Finger Lakes - Race #4

#7 Evrybodyluvsnorman	Price player dueled on debut but isn't fast enough to make the front here, which means he should trip out, and the addition of Lasix off that tightener only adds to the appeal; look out.
#1 J P's Song	The inside speed is clearly the one to beat off his two NYRA runs, but class drop is a worry, there's a ton of outside sheep, and he'll be vastly overbet first-time Conway; backwheel time.
#8 Carters Got Sass	Outside presser drew well, as he can dictate, as opposed to be dictated too, but the 1 will be tough, and this out has never faced his kind of big league speed; comes unglued in the lane.
Race Summary	The price will be right on the 7, as they will bet the 1 to about even-money, and the 8 will get played too, so you'll get a solid drift off the 4-1 ML, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially to end the early Pk4, and kick off the Pk5 as well, as he could fall through the wagering cracks, and budget players will be singling the chalk, which means a win by the pick would add plenty of value to both sequences.

Finger Lakes - Race #6

#4 Judiciary	Rice runner was a flat 6th in her sprint debut, but this is just an 8% debut barn, and this gal is bred to love the added ground/turf she gets, so the thinking is this was the spot they had in mind all along; love her chances here.
#2 Graphite Dutchess	Speedy miss figures to control things on the front end off the stretchout, and the sprint prep last time could have her primed here, so if she shakes loose early she could be tough late, though she tired badly last time; second-best.
#6 Wrongsideofhistory	Tiznow miss is another who's bred to appreciate today's journey, but she was a flat 3rd last time, when Lasix was added too, and yet she'll be overbet once again, which doesn't make her all that appealing; using underneath only.
Race Summary	There's a lot of reason to like the 4, most notably her upside and the fact she figures to be primed here off the debut, so play her in all the slots, and especially in the Pk5, and in the late Pk4 as well, since this is a wide open race, and a win in the 4-1 range would add plenty of value to both sequences.

Mountaineer - Race #2

#9 My Own Lane	Was a no show in the marathon at Colonial, but the local form is decent, and this softer bunch gives him a real chance to wake up.
#3 Great Plan	Wouldn't want a super short price here on a guy who tends to come calling very late in his races. Still, he's a threat off the nice win with similar last out.
#5 Ripinandatearin	Reliable 10yo type owns baseline form that is good enough to handle these, and he'd be plenty playable at something like the 5/1 ML price.
Race Summary	My Own Lane gets some class relief while cutting back off a two-mile trip last out, and his most recent local effort would be good enough to keep him in the picture.

Mountaineer - Race #3

#5 Black Circle	Ran that big race off the bench back in June and has taken two major steps back since that big try. Wondering if that comeback run took something out of him? Might be ready to bounce back at a big price.
#3 Loyalty Spirit	Surely one of the ones, but he has been coming up quite a bit short at some unappealing prices, and I'd want to be sure to get something better than 5/2 tonight.
#9 Trouble X Two	Should be able to show something a bit better this time around after the flat main-track try last out, and the good turf effort in June would make him very tough if he's getting back to that.
Race Summary	Black Circle should be a fair price here, and something like his layoff run in June would probably be good enough here. Loyalty Spirit and Trouble X Two are both capable, but neither seems likely to offer a truly fair price.

Mountaineer - Race #7

#8 Pinkie Pink	Has a pretty significant question to answer about the dirt, but the three runs so far all stack up pretty nicely, and she'd be appealing at something a little better than the ML price.
#9 Stylish Ash	Has been in with maiden claimers at Churchill in recent starts, but the running lines all stack up pretty favorably in this group. Underlay?
#2 Lincoln Center	Woke up with the best race of her life when trying the local footing last time out, and she'll be a fair price to see if she can build on that effort for the new connections.
Race Summary	Pinkie Pink has to prove she can handle the dirt, but her running lines are solid, and the ML chalk outside of her is far from a lock.

#2 Czechmight	Has the speed to get to the lead, much like he did in a maiden win at Keeneland last October; has trained well at Churchill and ships back for the win.
#4 Prodigious Bay	Broke his maiden at Oaklawn and then earned a trip to the Iowa Derby, where he prompted a fast pace and faded to fifth; ships in from Laurel, where he tired in a sprint and he now gets back to two turns.
#1 Uncle Kick	Made a power move and drew off from a maiden group in his first over this strip and will face better company.
Race Summary	Czechmight has been working up to a good effort and can be a strong front-end player here. Well placed and ready to win another.

Indiana Grand - Race #7

#9 Timeless Rose	Finished fourth in a stakes race last time and broke her maiden two back; has shown a liking for distance turf races and can run on late.
#11 Emily Lane	Makes her first turf attempt and is bred for it; was a badly beaten sixth in a stakes race an can improve here.
#6 Blonde Moment	Has been in some good races and hasn't run a good one since November at Aqueduct; make her first start for the Barkley stable and can improve vs. state-breds.
Race Summary	Timeless Rose has quality experience in distance turf races and is well spotted here. Has the endurance to get to her rivals in the stretch.

Indiana Grand - Race #8

#4 Boyfriend Material	Dug in for a solid win in her first try over the strip and first for the Amoss barn; capable of a repeat.
#7 I'm Corfu	Makes his third for Contreras and was third behind the top choice two back; improved to second last time and will be tough on the front end.
#2 Lonely Private	Has the speed to battle from the outside and stay for a major slice of it.
Race Summary	Boyfriend Material was sharp last out vs. similar and can be a strong factor throughout.

LA Lakers vs Portland Trail Blazers 8/24/20 - NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers look to take a 3-1 lead in their NBA Western Conference quarterfinals best-of-seven series on Monday when playing Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers defeated Portland 116-108 in Game 3 on Saturday. Los Angeles was led by LeBron James, who scored 38 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and handed out eight assists. Anthony Davis scored 29 points with 12 coming during the decisive fourth quarter.

Anthony Davis is leading Los Angeles in scoring with an average of 29.3 points per game.
