                Micah Roberts

                NASCAR

                Here is Roberts' analysis:

NASCAR's 10-race Playoffs begin Sunday at Darlington Raceway's high banked 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval with the Cook Out Southern 500. It will be the third race run this season at the historic track that made its NASCAR debut in 1950. The first two came as part of the first revised schedule amid the pandemic after being shut down following the March 8 Phoenix race. It was the only live sporting event on Network TV and helped millions feel a bit of normalcy for the first time in weeks. After three revised schedules with doubleheaders and new locations (Daytona road course), NASCAR is all caught up with dates and back on track with it's originally scheduled playoff dates and locations.

Here's how I see things shaping up Sunday:

1 #11 Denny Hamlin (12-5) -- He's a three-time winner at Darlington, which includes a victory on May 20. He also finished fifth in a race on the track three days earlier. Hamlin's got great Joe Gibbs Racing equipment, but what counts most on this abrasive asphalt is saving tires, and he has it figured out like no one else. He runs a straight line all the way around for the first 15 laps of a fuel run at nearly the same speed as everyone else, who are driving like it's the last lap. But then in the next 20 laps, Hamlin is golden and flying past everyone. How does he do it? It's a secret, but the Air Jordan logo on his fire suit might have something to do with it. Whatever it is, he's got everything clicking this season, and I predict he'll win his first Cup Series title, a journey which begins with a victory on Sunday.

2 #20 Erik Jones (40-1) -- He's not in the playoffs, he lost his ride for 2021, and there are not a lot of great ones left to take over. Jones is at a crossroad in his career, but the good news is that he won this race last season and has the same great Joe Gibbs Racing equipment as his teammates. I'm already down with action on him. The desperation is a huge attraction for a wager, but so is a 5.4 average finish between his five Cup Series starts at Darlington, the best among actives.

3 #18 Kyle Busch (12-1) -- He'll be in the retro M&M's car previously driven by Elliott Sadler and Ken Schrader, but it still looks like a 2020 ride. He has one win in 17 career Cup Series starts at Darlington, but he's always in the mix and has led 716 laps. He was runner-up here on May 20. He hasn't won a race in 2020 and starts Sunday with just three playoff points, while Harvick has recorded 57 and Hamlin 47. Busch can't mess up, and The Lady in Black knows it and will test him.

4 #4 Kevin Harvick (9-4) -- Six of his seven wins this season have come with the 550-horsepower package, which is being used this weekend. NASCAR has run it only 16 times so far. It might be his most impressive performance of his career, and he gets a bonus this season with Phoenix being the Championship 4 final race of the year, as he's won there a track-record nine times. He's a two-time winner at Darlington, with one being the first race following the pandemic pause on May 17. He's the active leader with 10 top-five finishes here and 751 laps led.

5 #9 Chase Elliott (10-1) -- He had his first win at Darlington all but wrapped up on May 20 before Busch wrecked him. Elliott had the fresher tires, and it was apparent that he was faster than everyone up front on older ones. Hamlin would not have won the race if it weren't for Busch's actions. Elliott was fourth here on May 17 and fifth in the 2018 Southern 500.

6 #2 Brad Keselowski (12-1) -- You've got to get out front to win the race, and he's done it eight straight times at Darlington, winning the Southern 500 in 2018. He led 80 laps here on May 17 and finished 13th but was fourth in the race three days later after leading only seven laps.

7 #19 Martin Truex Jr. (13-2) -- He won the 2016 Southern 500 and had top-10 finishes in both races in May, but his team is on the same page right now as he rides a streak of eight straight top-4s. Crew chief James Small and Truex have a great thing going after some growing pains to start the season following the departure of Cole Pearn.

8 #12 Ryan Blaney (25-1) -- He doesn't have any top-10 finishes in his seven starts at Darlington, which is why his odds are so high. It shows how tough the track is, but he's had a car capable of winning several times with the 550-hp package. He'll be a player to watch in this race.

9 #14 Clint Bowyer (50-1) -- He doesn't have any top-five finishes in 16 Cup Series starts at Darlington but had perhaps his best run ever there in the second race in May, when he led the most laps (71) but finished 22nd after winning the first two stages.

10 #22 Joey Logano (20-1) -- He's never won in 13 Cup Series starts at Darlington and his best finish came in 2018, when he was runner-up. He was sixth in the last race there. The good news for Logano is that he was fifth at Michigan his last race using this week's package.

11 #10 Aric Almirola (28-1) -- This week's race package has been his best. He had his best finish at Darlington (seventh) in his last race there and came in 12th on May 17.

12 #24 William Byron (50-1) -- In four Cup Series starts at Darlington, he's averaged a 25th-place finish, with the best (12th) coming in the second race there in May. After notching his first career series victory last Saturday at Daytona, he should have some extra zip in his step.

13 #41 Cole Custer (125-1) -- He won an Xfinity Series race at Darlington last season. In the two races here in May, he finished 22nd and 31st.

14 #88 Alex Bowman (30-1) -- He's made six Cup Series starts at Darlington and recorded his first top-10 finish in the first May race with a runner-up after leading 41 laps. It's the last time I can remember seeing Bowman compete for a win. It's also the last time he had a top-five using this week's race package.

15 #42 Matt Kenseth (150-1) -- His only win in 27 Cup Series starts at Darlington came in 2013, his first season driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. He was 10th and 20th in the races here in May, his first two starts after taking over for Kyle Larson.

16 #48 Jimmie Johnson (40-1) -- No playoffs for him, but he's still got 10 starts left to try and end his 120-race winless streak. In 23 Cup Series starts at Darlington, he's led 563 laps while notching three victories and nine top-fives. He was eighth here in the second race in May.

17 #1 Kurt Busch (25-1) -- His runner-up in 2003 remains his best finish among 25 Cup Series starts at Darlington, and still is the best finish to a NASCAR race since then. That was the race Ricky Craven won after he and Kurt Busch bumped and banged door-to-door in the final stages. Kurt Busch was third and 15th in the races here in May.

18 #8 Tyler Reddick (60-1) -- His first two Cup Series starts at Darlington in May went well for Reddick - almost too well. Rookies are supposed to struggle on the "Track Too Tough to Tame," but he finished seventh in the first race and 13th in the second.

19 #3 Austin Dillon (125-1) -- He starts his playoff run at a track that has been good for him. Dillon has a 13th-place average finish in eight Cup Series starts at Darlington, with a best of fourth in 2017.

20 #21 Matt DiBenedetto (60-1) -- He's had only good cars the last two seasons and fared very well in three races at Darlington in that span, with a best finish of eighth last year before coming in 14th and ninth in May. He starts the playoffs as the 16th seed with no head start in points, so he has to finish well in each of the next three races in order to advance to the next round.

                    Mike McClure

                    NASCAR

The model began its season paying out big by picking Denny Hamlin to win his second consecutive Daytona 500 at 10-1. It got off to a hot start following the coronavirus hiatus as well, calling seven top-10 drivers at both Darlington races. Using the model, McClure also recommended an outright play on winner Brad Keselowski at 13-1 at Bristol.

The model also called Kevin Harvick's win at Atlanta and nailed a whopping nine top-10 finishers in that race. McClure then used the model to lock in a 10-1 bet on Hamlin for his win at Miami. At The Brickyard, the model called Harvick's fourth victory of the season, and then nailed four of the top five drivers in the All-Star Race at Bristol. At the Daytona road course, the model called Chase Elliott's win and nailed three of the top four drivers.

We can tell you the model is high on Joey Logano, even though he's a huge 20-1 long shot in the latest NASCAR at Darlington odds from William Hill. He's a target for anyone looking for a HUGE payday. And a massive shocker: Chase Elliott, one of the Vegas favorites at 10-1, stumbles big time and doesn't even crack the top five! There are far better values in this loaded field.

The model is also targeting three other drivers with NASCAR at Darlington odds of 20-1 or longer to make a serious run at the checkered flag!

                    1 Denny Hamlin 12-5
                    2 Kevin Harvick 9-4
                    3 Martin Truex Jr 13-2
                    4 Kyle Busch 12-1
                    5 Brad Keselowski 12-1
                    6 Joey Logano 20-1
                    7 Chase Elliott 10-1
                    8 Ryan Blaney 25-1
                    9 Kurt Busch 25-1
                    10 Erik Jones 40-1

                                ATLANTA -130
                                WASHINGTON @ ATLANTA | 9/06 | 1:10 PM EDT
Atlanta took to opener of Friday's series-opening doubleheader but have allowed a total of 20 runs in back-to-back losses - 10 in each. But the Braves have been producing runs at a good rate, as they scored at least six in six straight contests prior to Saturday's 10-4 loss. Look for them to get enough against Washington's Patrick Corbin to earn a split of the four-game set.
