Event: (429) Tulane at (430) South Alabama
        Sport/League: CFB
        Date/Time: September 12, 2020 7PM EDT
        Play: Tulane -8.0 (-110)

The popular concept in the early going makes some sense. That is, teams with a game under their belts opposing teams playing their first game have more of an advantage than in most seasons. It makes sense for obvious reasons, with practices being disrupted due to outside circumstances. In this instance, that thought process is leading bettors to believe South Alabama is the right side here. The Jaguars not only have the game under their belts angle, they also won outright as a double digit dog. But that's the rub for me. I was on South Alabama last week as they beat Southern Miss. But that win was more about the Golden Eagles being completely unprepared than it was the Jaguars suddenly being a good football team. In fact, I can argue that South Alabama should have won even easier than they did as Southern Miss was clearly not ready to play football. As for Tulane, everything I'm reading says they're as well prepared as they can rightfully expect to be. I'm a little iffy about their QB, they lost a very good running back to a season ending injury and they haven't played a game yet. But I'm a big Willie Fritz fan, I really like the addition of six grad transfers who bring solid experience to the team, and they are simply the considerably more talented entry here. My power ratings make the Green Wave -12 and I kind of like the fact the betting public is excited about the home dog here. I don't think it's a blowout but at single digits, I'm pretty comfortable with backing Tulane minus the spot.

NBA public betting, line movement September 12
            Patrick Everson

LeBron James and Anthony Davis lead the Lakers against the Rockets in Game 5 Saturday. Los Angeles is a 6.5-point favorite. A win would put the Lakers in the West finals against the Clippers.

NBA betting odds are up for the lone playoff game on the Saturday schedule: Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals, where the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers can advance to the West finals with a victory over the Houston Rockets.

The SuperBook provided insights on NBA opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Saturday’s matchup.

            NBA line movement

After dropping Game 1 by 15 points, the Lakers rebounded with three straight wins over the Rockets, including Thursday’s 110-100 victory. Los Angeles can put away Houston in an 8 p.m. ET tipoff, and The SuperBook opened the Lakers -6.5. There was no line movement through Friday night.

The total opened 215 at The SuperBook and inched to 215.5 late Friday morning.

            NBA public betting

The Consensus, often indicative of public play, shows an expectation that Los Angeles will advance, but there’s two-way play, to be sure. Through late Friday night, the Lakers were attracting 56 percent of tickets and the Rockets 44 percent.

On the total, 71 percent of early Consensus picks were on the Over.

Luis Arraez and the Minnesota Twins host the Cleveland Indians in an AL Central battle on Saturday night. Caesars sportsbooks have the Indians as modest -117 road favorites.

MLB betting odds are on the board for a 15-game Saturday schedule, one game less than expected after the San Francisco Giants-San Diego Padres tilt was postponed by COVID issues. Among the marquee matchups is an AL Central battle between the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins.

Caesars sportsbooks provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Saturday’s games.

                            MLB line movement

The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins resume their three-game set in an 8:07 p.m. ET contest. On Friday night, the Twins posted a 3-1 victory to move to 7-2 in their last nine, while the Indians have lost four straight. For Saturday’s game, Caesars books opened at Indians -116/Twins +106 and were at -117/+107 late Friday night.

The Dodgers had Friday off, returning home after taking two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Meanwhile, the Astros continue what has been a terrible road swing, losing four of five against the Oakland Athletics to fall to 1-8 in their last nine games. Caesars opened at Dodgers -155/Astros +145 and moved just one penny through late Friday night, to -156/+146 for an 8:07 p.m. ET start.

The Chicago White Sox are arguably one of the pleasant surprises of the shortened season, sitting atop the AL Central with a 28-16 record. Chicago held off the visiting Detroit Tigers 4-3 Friday night and is on a 6-1 run entering Saturday’s 7:10 p.m. ET meeting with Detroit. The line for this game was not posted by late Friday night.

                            MLB public betting

The Consensus leaned toward the Twins, who were attracting 61 percent of picks against the Indians through Friday night. And it’s no surprise at all that the Dodgers were drawing 68 percent of early Consensus picks against the struggling Astros.
