    SOUTH FLORIDA +26
    SOUTH FLORIDA @ NOTRE DAME | 9/19 | 2:30 PM EDT
Notre Dame will not find the game film from South Florida’s opener helpful. In a glorified scrimmage against The Citadel, the Bulls deployed three QBs. Eleven players had carries and 11 caught passes. Meanwhile, The Citadel's QB completed just four of his 18 pass attempts. Because of quarantining, the Bulls were compelled to start three new offensive linemen. They gained experience, if limited, should they be called upon in South Bend. The Irish did not exactly dazzle in their win over Duke, so an underdog cover is plausible.

        MIAMI (FLA.) @ LOUISVILLE | 9/19 | 7:30 PM EDT
Miami showed us a new identity in its season-opening victory. With a new OC and a new QB in D'Eriq King, this is a team that knows what it does well, and isn't afraid to do it over and over. As a result, the Canes rushed for 337 yards against UAB. Now they'll be facing a Louisville defense that allowed 5.4 yards per carry last season, ranking 120th nationally. Take the dog.

The Eagles haven’t teed it up this season and the Blue Devils played Notre Dame tough last week. The Eagles return four offensive linemen and are comfortable enough at quarterback with Dennis Grosel or Phil Jurkovec to allow longtime starting quarterback Anthony Brown to walk out the door. The Blue Devils gave up 6.04 yards per play last week, so expect a new-look offense to at least keep this one close.

The Hurricanes offense didn’t click as much as I expected against UAB, which is concerning heading into what will likely be a shootout against the Cardinals. Maybe the Hurricanes held quarterback D’Eriq King back a little bit, but not enough to go point-for-point with Micale Cunningham and Co. The junior signal-caller for Louisville had 343 passing yards, 24 rushing yards and four total touchdowns last week. When you pair him put with running back Javian Hawkins and a talented trio of wide receivers including Tutu Atwell, Dez Fitzpatrick and Braden Smith, there won’t be any chance the ‘Canes defense will keep them in check.

It's tough to go against an Oklahoma State team that has dominated this rivalry and should have one of the nation's top offenses behind returning 2,094-yard rusher Chuba Hubbard and a host of additional weapons that includes Washington State transfer Tay Martin at receiver. But Tulsa has enough weapons of its own to provide value with three-plus touchdowns. Baylor transfer Zach Smith returns at QB, and the Golden Hurricane have one of the deepest backfields in the country led by Shamari Brooks. Lok to grab 24 or better as the public weighs in on the Cowboys before kickoff.

This isn’t the opener that first-year coach Dave Aranda wanted, but it should still be a great battle between two former SWC rivals. Don’t sleep on Baylor. Quarterback Charlie Brewer is a dual-threat stud and John Lovett is one of the better running backs in the Big 12. I’m not a big believer of Houston quarterback Clayton Tune being a playmaker … even against an inexperienced Bears defense. After all, that defense is led by Aranda.

One of the trends I've been tracking in 2020 is how teams perform in their season-openers. The trend that has really stuck out is what happens when two teams are playing their season-openers against one another. There have been 20 such games so far this season and the Under is 14-6. None of the six games that went over had a total higher than 55. The 20 games have featured an average of 50.4 points per game. Take the Under.

After watching Notre Dame beat Duke last week I came away from the performance with the same concerns I had about the Irish coming into the season. There just isn't an explosive presence in the passing game, and without that explosiveness, it's hard to trust this Irish offense as such a large favorite. USF didn't look great last week, either, but they used their contest against The Citadel as a glorified spring scrimmage.

Southern Miss lost its opener to South Alabama and it looked so bad and entirely unprepared that it made a coaching change afterward. Now that same team is coming back two weeks later with a new coach against a team that won 10 games last season and is favored. There are concerns about Tech here, but not enough to convince me to pass up on it here.

The game nobody knew they wanted. I know it was against Clemson, and we shouldn't hold any performance against Clemson against any team, but Wake's offense didn't fill me with much confidence about it going forward. Then there's NC State, which managed an ACC-worst 16.1 points per game in conference play last season, playing its first game. Then there are some trends that are hard to ignore, like the fact the Under is 20-9 in NC State's last 29 ACC games. Or that it's 10-4 in Wake's last 14 ACC games.

Duke lost to Notre Dame 27-13 last week, which presents reasons to be optimistic about the Blue Devils this week, as well as reason for pessimism. The good news is they have a game under their belt, while Boston College doesn't. The bad news is that nothing Duke did last week left an indelible mark on me, and none of it gives me confidence to trust it as a favorite here this week.
