MLB public betting, line movement September 22

Mike Trout and the Angels make the short trek down the SoCal coast to face the Padres on Tuesday night. Caesars sportsbooks pegged San Diego a -160 favorite.
MLB betting odds are on the board for a full slate plus one, as there are 16 games on the Tuesday schedule. Among the noteworthy matchups, the San Diego Padres host the Los Angeles Angels, and the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians resume their AL Central series.
Caesars sportsbooks provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Tuesday’s games.
MLB line movement
San Diego has already clinched a playoff spot, making a charge at the Los Angeles Dodgers in the process. But the Padres are now four back with six games to play in this shortened season, so they’ll likely have to live with second place in the NL West. The Angels, even with arguably MLB’s best player in Mike Trout, won’t sniff the postseason, but they are on a 4-1 upswing entering this 9:10 p.m. ET start.
Caesars books opened at Padres -160/Angels +150, and there was no line movement through Monday night.
Cleveland beat Chicago 7-4 Monday night and can continue to shore up its postseason position in Tuesday’s 6:10 p.m. ET clash. Initially, the Indians were expected to start Shane Bieber (8-1, 1.74 ERA), but it will instead be Cal Quantrill (2-0, 2.52), which helps explain the line movement Monday night. Caesars opened Cleveland at -225 and closed to -180, with Chicago +165.
The AL West and NL West leaders collide when the Oakland Athletics face the Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:40 p.m. ET. Caesars pegged the host Dodgers -175 favorites, with the A’s +160, and there was no line movement Monday night.
MLB public betting
The Dodgers were landing 64 percent of picks in Covers Consensus through Monday night, and their NL West brethren Padres were attracting 70 percent of early picks. The Philadelphia Phillies were the most popular play through Monday night, drawing 73 percent of Covers Consensus picks for a 3:05 p.m. ET doubleheader opener against the host Washington Nationals.

MLB | Brewers vs Reds
Play on: Reds -145 at sportsbook
I normally try and stay away from these big of favorites in the MLB, but given the situation here I really like the Reds with Gray on the mound tonight. They have finally caught fire as most expected this team to even win the central. They are now 7-1 their last 8 playing their way back into the playoffs and have a chance to pass St Louis for 2nd I the division. Gray is 4-1 at home with a 3.11 ERA right now. Gray has also owned the Brewers with a 2.56 ERA.
