    Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

    Delaware Park - Race #1
#8 Cougar Vision Stalker was a decent 6th against better while facing winners, so this drop and the experience will help; look out.
#3 Drive In The chalk was facing better at Mth and holding his won, but note that last run was a real dud; trying to beat on top.
#2 Dogwood Queen Underlay is a bit slow on figures and will be overbet, though she still has upside off jus six starts; can get a share.
Race Summary You won't see that 6-1 ML on the pick but even 7-2 seems fair on a horse with her future in front of her, so play her in all the slots, and especially to kick off the early Pk4 as well, as this is a group there for the taking, and yet a win would add some value to the sequence right off the bat.
    Delaware Park - Race #3
#7 Blameless Tactical sort likely needed his last off the break, but was a decent 5th, should be tighter now, and owns a big flow edge over the favorite; can surprise.
#9 J Beresford Tipton Deep closer is best on figures and will be tough, but his running style leaves him little margin for error, which is why he's lost 10 straight; second-best.
#12 Hurricane Party Lightly raced runner wired his turf debut last time and now steps up, and if he clears early they may not see him late; eligible to get brave on the engine.
Race Summary The price will be right on the 7, and the return run was a means to an end, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially the early Pk4, and to kick off the Pk5 as well, as he could fall through the wagering cracks, which means a win would add plenty of value to both sequences.
    Delaware Park - Race #7
#7 Belle Tapisserie Versatile sort has the speed to be placed anywhere, so this outside attack post helps, he's been facing better, and new trainer Simoff is having a banner meet; expecting a big run.
#1a Thundershook Stalker has easily won two straight and certainly figures, though this is a tougher group he's meeting on the rise, and there's not a lot of speed here either; seems the main danger.
#5 He's Smokin Now Stalker just won at the level, so certainly he's a player, but he's lacking in the early foot department, which gives the pick a big edge early, which may be all he need late; tread lightly.
Race Summary The post and race flow will both be big for the 7, as he's got the speed to be in front of his two biggest rivals, so play him aggressively to win and place, and especially to end the Pk5, and in the late Pk4 as well, since he seems like he's getting all the best of it here, and he was likely best among these anyway.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mountaineer - Race #1
#6 Summer Hours Not sniffing out anything clever with this one, but she looks like the most likely winner on the program to me, and her two career turf tries were better than what anyone else in here can offer.
#7 Bee Wings Has had 13 chances, but her best stuff is close to what it might take to win here. Late threat if the top choice falters.
#4 Aznavour Underneath threat if anything, as she went sort of evenly in an effort that wasn't terrible last out -- a bar that most of these can't clear.
Race Summary This is about as soft a race as you'll find for a horse like Summer Hours. She owns a couple of decent turf sprints starts at Laurel, and she's meeting a group with 121 starts under their collective belt and only 21 in the money finishes.
      Mountaineer - Race #2
#4 Princess Avril Owns some pace, but she can also sit just a bit off it and finish, and that should come in handy in a spot with a couple of other pace players.
#8 Oui Say No Wasn't terrible in the only career turf try, but I'd want something better than the 5/1 ML offering on the hike after a couple of races resulting in 18- and 16-length defeats.
#1 Spring Lass Tries the turf for the first time while dropping in class, but the price might get a bit short with that question to answer about the new footing.
Race Summary Princess Avril should be able to get a great trip from close range here, and she might prove a good fit with the locals.
      Mountaineer - Race #8
#6 Keyed on Top Has won three of his four local starts and brings sharp recent form to this from the Midwest. Tracking pace can score here, and the 4/1 ML price would be plenty playable.
#1 Spatetacular Joe Tactical type has been solid locally and landed a few underneath pieces with similar earlier this year. Chance.
#7 Honor Life Recent dirt sprint form is muddied a bit by the synthetic and route tries, and he has a right to hit hard here with this kind of company.
Race Summary Keyed on Top gets the edge over a course he loves, and a great trip should be waiting for him from not too far off the splits.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #1
#2 SOME POWER Reversed form, wired field at 38-1, value remains.
#3 NEEDLESS TO SAY 3yo won last two times he tested this level.
#6 CHARGER BLUE CHIP Won 3 of last 6 at this level, seeks 33rd lifetime victory.
Race Summary Some Power beat the favorite to the punch and never looked back in a 38-1 shocker at Freehold. He showed a pulse in his race prior and could be rounding to another upset. Play a 2-3-6 exacta box.
        Northfield Park - Race #5
#3 SPIRITUAL SON Wore down the fave, should get better set-up tonight.
#6 FATHER TIME Dominant at the fairs for trainer-driver, will be underlay.
#1 JUSTTHEWAYUARE AS Pair of thirds before going off stride in latest try.
Race Summary Spiritual Son was flushed out near the ¾-mile mark and down even-money favorite Best Time Hanover, who starts from post 7 in rematch with more pace in the race. Play 3-1 and 3-6 exactas.
        The Meadows - Race #1
#1 CRISP MANE Set torrid pace, battled back to win two starts back, can rate.
#5 BAD TIGRESS Gets plenty of pace to rally into, use in all gimmicks.
#2 ALWAYS GIGGLING Doesn’t shy from photo-finish camera, moves outside in.
Race Summary Crisp Mane won in open company the last two months at Northfield Park, now draws the rail with Wrenn in an idea spot after she broke stride last week. Play 1-2 and 1-5 exactas.

          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

          Indiana Grand - Race #7
#1 America Rules She annihilated state-bred maidens and then was an even and non-threatening third in an open allowance; will send from the inside and will probably be the one to catch.
#9 Diamond Solitaire Crushed maidens in her second start and is ready to step up into stakes company; has a good closing move.
#3 Russian Influence Was up in time in a solid and professional debut; can make a run in her step up in class.
Race Summary America Rules has the speed to get the jump on other contenders and can dig in when challenged.
          Indiana Grand - Race #8
#7 Mischieviousbud Was an impressive winner first out and then set the pace and held second vs. open rivals; big player on the front end.
#6 Betsdownletsride Has won both starts, the last vs. open company; can mix it up throughout and will be a short price.
#2 Private Union Was third in his open start and can benefit from a fast pace; can pick off quite a few rivals in the final furlong of this one.
Race Summary Mischieviousbud will have the best view from the outside, has the speed to go when asked and is a legit threat to the favorite.
          Indiana Grand - Race #9
#10 Belle Brezing Made a good run into second at Arlington in her first in nine months and can close ground on these.
#5 Bombshell Closed well and lost by a head at Saratoga in her first U.S. start after running her first three in Ireland; good late mover.
#1 Tap N Sway Scored from off the pace in her last, which was over this course; is in very good form with two wins and three seconds in her last five and fits with these.
Race Summary Belle Brezing ran a decent race in her first off a vacation and should improve in her second back; good closer on occasion.

NBA public betting, line movement September 30
              Patrick Everson

The Miami Heat have seven SU and ATS wins as underdogs in the 2020 NBA Playoffs. They opened as five-point underdogs for Wednesday's NBA Finals Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

NBA betting odds are on the board for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, set for Wednesday night. The surprising Miami Heat, who are a torrid 12-3 SU and ATS in the postseason, take on the Los Angeles Lakers at 9 p.m. ET.

DraftKings Sportsbook provided insights on NBA opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Wednesday’s matchup, along with odds to win the NBA championship.

              NBA line movement

UPDATE 8 P.M. ET TUESDAY: BetMGM in Nevada opened the Lakers -5.5 and the line is now -4.5, but that's not indicative of the bulk of the action, nor the need. See below for details.

              ---

Miami’s run through the playoffs includes winning seven games SU and ATS from the underdog role. The Heat put away the Boston Celtics in six games in the Eastern Conference finals, closing with a 125-113 victory Sunday night. The Lakers are 12-3 SU and 9-5-1 ATS in the playoffs, finishing off the Nuggets 117-107 in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals Saturday.

DraftKings opened the Lakers -5 on Monday morning, and the line stuck there through Monday night. Likewise, the total opened and stuck at 217.5 Monday.

UPDATE 8 P.M. ET TUESDAY: BetMGM Nevada's Jeff Stoneback said sharp play on the Heat +5.5 helped bring the number down to 4.5 for Wednesday's Game 1.
              NBA public betting

UPDATE 8 P.M. ET TUESDAY: "We already need the Heat," BetMGM Nevada's Stoneback said. "There's a little sharp money on the 'dog, but the public is all over the Lakers." There's been little interest in the total so far, though it ticked from 218 to 217.5.

              ---

The Lakers were taking 64 percent of tickets and 72 percent of money on the spread Monday at DraftKings. And early bettors liked the Over, too, to the tune of 80 percent of tickets and 94 percent of dollars.

Game 1 Odds: Heat vs. Lakers
                        Michael Crosson

It has been a little over 11 months since the winner of last year’s Finals, the Toronto Raptors, received their championship rings on the opening night of the 2019-20 NBA season, but the wait is finally over.

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat will square off with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for one last series to crown the kings of the Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida.

                        NBA Finals Schedule

All games to be played on one day of rest

                        Game 1 - Wednesday, Sept. 30
                        Game 2 - Friday, Oct. 2
                        Game 3 - Sunday, Oct. 4
                        Game 4 - Tuesday, Oct. 6
                        Game 5 - Friday, Oct. 9
                        Game 6 - Sunday, Oct. 11
                        Game 7 - Tuesday, Oct. 13

                        Line Movements

The Heat continue to be doubted by the oddsmakers out in Las Vegas, now listing Miami as an ‘underdog’ in its third straight post-season series and a four and a half-point ‘dog for its Game 1 contest with the Lakers.

Without Steph Curry and the Warriors in the NBA Finals for the first time in five years, expect the landscape of the series to look much different as we will see two teams with defensive-minded coaches that play with a lot of energy go up against each other on basketball’s biggest stage.

The ‘over-under’ for this contest sits at 217.5 though, which is still a higher opening total than last year’s Toronto-Golden State Game 1 contest (OU 215).

                        Heat vs. Lakers Head-to-Head

                        Last Four Meetings (2018-2019)

                        Dec. 13, 2019: Los Angeles 113 at Miami 100, Lakers -5.5, Over 212
                        Nov. 8, 2019: Los Angeles 95 vs. Miami 80, Lakers -8.5, Under 218.5
                        Dec. 10, 2018: Los Angeles 108 vs. Miami 105, Lakers -5.5, Under 222
                        Nov. 18, 2018: Los Angeles 113 at Miami 97, Lakers -1, Under 224.5

The Lakers have won both matchups so far with the Heat this year in two very different fashions, but do not get it confused, it was all about Anthony Davis in both games. The first time these teams met up his defense was on display, as the Brow rejected three shots and scored a team-high 26 points during the Lakers’ 95-80 victory.

Aside from Butler’s 22 points on 44% shooting in the Heat’s first game with LAL this season, it was a miserable offensive performance from Erik Spoelstra’s team across the board as his team finished the contest shooting 35% from the field and 17% from deep in the loss.

The second meeting between Miami and Los Angeles was much higher scoring and closely contested, but the spotlight shone bright on Davis yet again by leading the Lakers in scoring for his second consecutive contest against the Heat (33 points, 10 reb, 4-9 3FG).

The Lakers won the contest so it got overshadowed, but the LAL defensive struggles at the guard position were on full display in their second contest with Miami this year, as Kendrick Nunn and Butler combined for 39 points and 6 steals in the contest. It simply was not enough though, as the Lakers escaped with the 113-110 victory.

Including the aforementioned results from this season, make a note that since LeBron joined the Lakers in 2018, Los Angeles has gone 4-0 straight up and 2-2 against the spread in four regular season meetings against his former team.

                        Miami Betting Outlook

                        Inside the Stats

                        Bubble: 15-8 SU, 15-8 ATS, 12-10-1 O/U
                        Playoffs: 12-3 SU, 12-3 ATS, 8-7 O/U

At the start of the playoffs, it appeared to be a rocky path ahead, but the Heat have cruised right through the Eastern Conference by knocking off Indiana, Milwaukee, and Boston in just a combined 15 games.

The Lakers were built to beat teams like the Clippers and Rockets, but the Heat actually pose as an interesting matchup for LAL. Mainly because Bam Adebayo is capable of guarding Davis, but also because Miami has multiple, aggressive catch-and-shoot snipers in Herro, Robinson, and Dragic that the Lakers are notorious for having trouble defending outside.

I am not personally putting a dime on the Heat in this series, but Miami still sits as a +375 ‘underdog’ to win this year’s NBA Finals. So, if you are begging for reasons to bet against LeBron, now might be your best chance.

Now, people are worried about this magical Heat unit that has made the Eastern Conference look like a cakewalk...

Should bettors backing L.A. be worried? No!

There is no need to worry about the Lakers whatsoever heading into this series. Los Angeles’ stars have had their heads on straight and eyes on the prize all the way inside the bubble, as LeBron and AD combined for 50+ points in all five contests against the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers have completed gentlemen’s sweeps in all three of their playoff series so far, have no injuries, and come into this series piping hot. The betting outlook appears bright in LA to say the least.

                        Key Injuries

                        Miami

PG Gabe Vincent: Knee - Game Time Decision
PF Chris Silva: Pelvis - Game Time Decision

                        Los Angeles

SG Dion Waiters: Groin - Game Time Decision

Good to see King James left off the injury report heading into the NBA Finals. His name was added to the report due to a nagging groin injury during the heart of the Lakers’ series with the Nuggets, but obviously was just for precautionary reasons as LeBron appears to be healthier than ever heading into his 10th NBA Finals.

Mookie Betts and the top-seeded Dodgers open the NL wild-card round Wednesday night against the Brewers. FanDuel pegged Los Angeles a hefty -245 favorite, with Milwaukee at +210.

MLB betting odds are on the board for Wednesday’s wild-card playoff schedule, and it is full, as all eight series are in play. Four teams are already one win away from advancing, after posting victories Tuesday, and the World Series favorite Los Angeles Dodgers open their series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

FanDuel Sportsbook provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Wednesday’s games.

                          MLB line movement

Los Angeles posted the best record in the majors in this shortened regular season, at 43-17, including 10-2 in its last 12 games. Milwaukee went 2-4 in its last six and barely made the postseason, as the NL’s eighth seed and the only playoff team under .500, with a 29-31 mark.

As such, it should be no surprise that the Dodgers opened -245 and the Brewers +210 for a 10:08 p.m. ET first pitch.

The New York Yankees are the road team against the Cleveland Indians, but the Pinstripes got to Shane Bieber and Co. in a 12-3 Game 1 rout Tuesday and can advance with a win in Wednesday’s 7:08 p.m. ET contest. FanDuel opened at Yankees -126/Indians +108, and there was no movement by late Tuesday.

The Chicago Cubs open their best-of-3 series against the visiting Miami Marlins in a 2:08 p.m. ET start. FanDuel has Chicago at -164 and Miami +144, and there was no line movement through Tuesday night.

The defending AL champion Houston Astros got the No. 6 seed and therefore had to go on the road against the Minnesota Twins. But Houston got a 4-1 win Tuesday and can move on with a victory in Wednesday’s 1:08 p.m. ET meeting. Although it’s an early start, the line for this game wasn’t posted late Tuesday night.

                          MLB public betting

The Cincinnati Reds-Atlanta Braves tilt, which begins the day at 12:08 p.m. ET, is a pitcher’s duel of Trevor Bauer (5-4, 1.73 ERA) and Max Fried (7-0, 2.25 ERA). The Braves were -126 favorites at FanDuel late Tuesday, but the Reds were getting 68 percent of tickets and 67 percent of cash on the moneyline.

By contrast, the Consensus had the Braves landing 63 percent of picks through Tuesday night. The Consensus also had 75 percent of early picks on the Dodgers, against the Brewers.

Marlins-Cubs had Chicago taking 61 percent of bets and 68 percent of money at FanDuel. And interestingly, +142 underdog St. Louis was attracting 61 percent of tickets/58 percent of money at San Diego for a 5:08 p.m. ET matchup.
