    Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

    Finger Lakes - Race #3
#7 Party in the Raine Stalker drew perfectly for her style, and she enters off two strong runs at the level, and now catches a ML favorite who has some hurdles to jump over; love her chances here.
#3 Shards of Class The horse to beat wins this with her best, yet the best came in 2019 and she hasn't been seen this year, so from a tricky draw, off a long break, she may need this; second-best.
#6 Ma Meatloaf Capable miss will like the drop from an open SAL, and the win two-back in the NYB ranks puts her in the mix here, though the top pair might be a bit too tough; exotics appeal.
Race Summary You won't get rich on the 7 but they will bet the 3, even off the break, so play the pick aggressively to win and place, while getting some added value by singling her in the early Pk4 as well, since she gets all the best of it here with the recency edge, and yet a win over 'Class will still knock a lot of tickets out of the sequence.
    Finger Lakes - Race #6
#5 Christmas Dinner Stiff class dropper has been facing eons better of late, and while she regressed badly last time her first two runs this year will put her in the mix here, at a nice price too; upset special.
#4 Ohmygollymsmolly The gal to beat just missed by a nose at the level, so she's obviously going to be a handful here, though the figure was slow, so her margin for error is mighty slim; trying to beat on top.
#3 Sydney Sweetie Versatile miss pressed and tired slightly to be 3rd at the level, and a repeat puts her in the mix here, and if she guns hard early she may find herself as a Lone F too; would be no surprise.
Race Summary That 8-1 ML seems like a big overlay on the 5, especially if her last was an aberration, so play her in all the slots, and especially the Pk5, and late Pk4 as well, as you should get enough risk-reward to take a shot to see if she's still got some form to her, and if she does, that should give her every chance against a group like this.
    Finger Lakes - Race #8
#9 Jerry's Junkyard Lightly raced colt has run just three times and really improved his figure last time when the blinkers were added, and now he stretches out to two turns too, with a pedigree that says he should love the trip, and a price that figures to be inviting as well; expecting a breakthrough run.
#2 Takazak Well-drawn runner has picked up his game of late since trying two turns in his last two, and there's no doubt he drew a lot better than a few of the heavy hitters here too, so at a decent price, with two solid route rruns showing, you could do a lot worse than looking his way; very playable.
#11 Senrima The chalk hits hard on the MSW drop, as the Spa runs for a tag were faster than these, but his local debut was his first off the trainer change to Conway, and he was awful, is in for 5k, adds blinkers, tries two turns for the first time, and drew terribly, so there are some red flags; tread lightly.
Race Summary That 5-1 ML on the pick looks plenty playable, as he's got more upside than the rest of these combined, and just might be finally doing what he wants to do all along, so play him in all the slots, and especially to end the Pk5, and late Pk4 as well, since a win would add plenty of value to both sequences.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mountaineer - Race #1
#2 Imperial Guard Versatile type should be able to find a decent spot into the first turn, and he proved a good fit with the locals in that last one.
#4 Armonico His 1-for-28 record is a red flag, but he's a pretty reliable finisher, and he figures to come along late for an underneath piece.
#3 Cigar Box His pedigree hints that he'll be able to handle the turf just fine, but his two-turn form is still somewhat suspect, and I wouldn't want too short a number here.
Race Summary Imperial Guard can get the right trip with these, and the price might be playable. The likely favorites don't inspire much here.
      Mountaineer - Race #2
#7 Tia Flor Has danced plenty of dances at 10 tracks throughout her career, and her recent turf form has been really reliable. Chance at a square price.
#1 Yankee Rose Pace player will make a break for it from the inside, and it's tough to argue with her 4-for-4 slate over the local footing. She's got a right to be tough here.
#6 Legendarys First Gives away a tactical edge to the top pair, but she is an ultra reliable finisher who figures to come calling late.
Race Summary Tia Flor is in really good form right now as she makes her 66th lifetime start, and she has some forward ability that should keep her in the mix from the start.
      Mountaineer - Race #3
#7 Over to You Seems like a good fit with this bunch off the Monmouth marathon run last out, and she has proven form at this kind of trip in the past.
#4 Memory Magic She has done little wrong in four career turf tries, and she'll step up for this after hitting the top and settling for second last out in Louisiana.
#8 China Cat Makes her turf debut after a dozen main track tries to open her career, and while the pedigree is a bit iffy, the form is there for her to be a factor with these.
Race Summary Over to You can be a late threat here, and something like the 4/1 ML offering would seem plenty fair against this group.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        The Meadows - Race #1
#7 RED RIVER JANE Pursued odds-on winner, should be the target in same spot.
#5 TOUT DA LOU Finished 1-3/4 lengths behind top one, lures Palone to drive.
#2 MARVALOUS SONG Steady check-getter but 3-for-54 the last two years.
Race Summary Red River Jane willingly chased the 1-to-9 favorite around the track. She can maximize her speed today despite starting outside. Play 7-2 and 7-5 exactas.
        Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #2
#4 DON’T JUDGE A BOOK Couldn’t sustain bid, tighter today, price goes up.
#7 DREAM OUT LOUD Recent millionaire blew clear stretch lead on drop to this level.
#3 CANDELL Rallied for third at 83-1 two back, no threat on class hike off claim in latest.
Race Summary Don’t Judge A Book ranged up through a :57 middle half but flattened out after three weeks away. He romped in his previous try at this level. Play 4-3 and 4-7 exactas.
        Rosecroft - Race #1
#6 GET REAL RUSTY Bid 3-wide around dead cover, denied but 2-1 leader after pace slowed.
#1 BARELY A VIRGIN Second from post 9 behind odds-on winner, draws rail.
#5 PROUD MARKET Good form at Ocean Downs, outrun from post 8 locally.
Race Summary Get Real Rusty took back to last off a fast pace, went around dead cover on the backstretch, ranged up on the 2-1 winner but hung in the stretch. He should live up to favoritism in this field, so let’s make him today’s Best Bet.

          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Gulfstream Park West - Race #2
#4 Broadway Cat Has been running against better horses and is due for a big effort in his fifth of the year; late threat.
#1 Travess Has a good closing move on occasion and should appreciate the 6.5 furlongs; likely to get a good pace in front of her.
#2 Words of Devine Was third in his last four races and drops down a rung on the class ladder; has finished evenly and might be able to move up.
Race Summary Broadway Cat has been fillies that don't falter when it counts and this step down in class should help her along with her rally.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #3
#2 Avocado Toast Woke up last time when Hall of Famer Prado was lined up, and Prado sticks around for this one; serious factor on the front end.
#7 Karenina Ran on well for second the last time she was on the turf; toss out her latest, which was transfer from turf to main-track slop.
#10 Jeanie's Angel Improved position last time and was a winner the last time she was on turf; has enough speed to stay close.
Race Summary Avocado Toast set the pace and finished third in her last one, and a similar performance gets her to the winner's circle after this one.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #4
#1 Slashing Had the misfortune of running into Raison d'Air, who won by 13; this one was well clear for second and could be much better today with the addition of blinkers.
#6 Figo Has a long list of works and looks ready for his first career start; Pita barn has been doing well over the past couple weeks.
#7 Gran Runner Finished third in his debut and gets more distance here; might be a front-end player.
Race Summary Slashing couldn't keep up with an easy winner but should be able to improve as he stretches out to two turns.

Wednesday free play goes on the afternoon card as I play the Braves and Ian Anderson on the Run Line in their game against the Marlins and Pablo Lopez.

Miami raced to a 4-1 lead yesterday against Atlanta, but then starter Sandy Alcantara got a little cute and decided to hit Ronald Acuna and the dynamics changed as the Braves scored 8 straight runs to take the series opener, 9-5.

The Atlanta bats which had scored just 2 runs in 20 innings in their Wild Card series opener against Cincinnati have seemed to come to life as they plated 4 runs in the 8th inning of that second game versus the Reds and they have been off to the races ever since.

Yesterday's win made it 7-4 in the season series for Atlanta over Miami and marked the 5th time over the last 6 games they have dumped their division-rivals.

Ian Anderson has been rock-solid since getting his big league call up and stands at 4-1 for the season. He did not fare so well against Miami this season as he allowed 5 runs in almost 9 innings of work, but only 1 of those runs was earned!

As for Lopez, he did not pitch in the Wild Card series against the Cubs and brings a 2-1 mark against the Braves this season into this start, but do note his 6.39 ERA versus Atlanta suggests the Bravos bats could once again make solid contact today.

Go with Atlanta on the Run Line.

            4* ATLANTA -1 1/2 RUNS

My free play for Wednesday is the Over in the Marlins-Braves meeting at Minute Maid Park this afternoon.

Yesterday the teams combined for 14 runs and an easy Over as the Marlins and the Braves have now seen 4 of their last 6 season series meetings make their way Over the posted price.

Being so familiar with one another ensures the hitters having the advantage over the pitchers and today is no exception.

Marlins starter Pablo Lopez hasn't pitched since September 24th when he blanked Atlanta for 5 innings with just 2 hits allowed, but his season ERA versus the Braves is still 6.39.

Braves starter Ian Anderson was great against all opponents not named Miami, as he allowed 5 runs in his 8-plus innings of work against the Marlins this year in his pair of starts. True, only one of the runs was earned, but the fact remains 5 of them crossed the dish.

I just like the bats to boom loud enough again today to take this meeting Over the total.

              2* MIAMI-ATLANTA OVER

                          # 10 WATCH CAIRO 5/1
                          # 3 SHARK HUNTER 15/1
My selection in this race is SEXY DEXY. He has garnered strong figures under today's conditions and will almost certainly fare well against this group of animals. He has been running very well and the Equibase speed figs are among the best in this field. Trainer boasts strong win numbers at this distance and surface. WATCH CAIRO - Seems to have a very strong class edge based on the most recent company kept. Has been racing very well and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance.

                            Remington Park - Race #4 - Post: 8:31pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,200 Class Rating: 65

                            Rating:

                            #10 ARCH'S WILD (ML=4/1)
                            #6 POMEROY HAZE (ML=15/1)

ARCH'S WILD - Elliott was aboard this gelding in the last race and was impressed enough to take the horse right back. This gelding should be at the peak of fitness, this far into his form cycle. Searching through the data for this race, I noted right away this horse's last effort was more than meets the eye. Showed good early zip, fell back, and then ran evenly. Finished out of the money last out at Remington Park, but was within five lengths of the winner. Opening at 4/1 makes me think he's got a chance. POMEROY HAZE - Lara is up for another event today after racing atop this equine for the first attempt on September 19th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. This gelding was sharp enough to post a 'top two' workout recently. I think he's ready for today's event. It looks like the early speed horses may duel each other into the ground. When the real running starts this gelding should be flying down the lane.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #8 SARACEN (ML=3/1), #13 SEVEN VISIONS (ML=5/1), #1 CLEVER BOY (ML=6/1),

SARACEN - If he goes off anywhere near the morning line odds of 3/1, I'll have to pass. SEVEN VISIONS - Not probable that the speed rating he garnered on September 18th will hold up in this affair. CLEVER BOY - Last performed on September 23rd at Remington Park, finishing seventh. Unlikely to advance off of that try in today's event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #10 ARCH'S WILD on the nose if you can get odds of 3/2 or more

                              Delaware Park - Race #1 - Post: 1:15pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 82

                              Rating:

                              #2 PERFETTO (ML=2/1)
                              #4 RELISHMENT (ML=3/1)

PERFETTO - The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let him get away early they probably won't catch him. This rider and trainer's horses have been generating a lucrative return on investment. Sub-par effort in the last race at Delaware Park was due to the off-going (he ran fourth). Should do much better in this race under normal track conditions. RELISHMENT - The morning line odds on this gelding are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of handler Bennett. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins.

                              Vulnerable Contenders: #5 DASHING LOU (ML=4/1), #3 RELENTLESS LION (ML=9/2), #7 SOUTHERN CAL (ML=8/1),

DASHING LOU - Recent decreasing speed ratings of 78/69/65 give a sign that this equine may be going off form. I'd like to see more preferred recent outings with morning line odds of 4/1. RELENTLESS LION - Likely won't make much of an impact this time. SOUTHERN CAL - Tough for anyone who saw this racer in his last clash to play him in today's event.
