    Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

    Finger Lakes - Race #1
#6 This Cat Can Fly Heavy hitter was 4th to a few of these last time, but it was in the mud, and he may have bounced off the huge fast track win two-back, which would lap this field; can make amends.
#1 Smooth Operation ML favorite wired the pick last time and would be tough if he clears early, but there's some speed to his outside, and he definitely moved up in the going last time too; second-best.
#4 Marble Moon Longshot beat the pick last time too, and clearly liked the mud, but he's got some decent fast track form too, and his off-the-pace running style says he can rally late; exotics appeal.
Race Summary You won't get rich on the 6, but with the 1 taking all the money that 5-2 ML might hold, and that would be an overlay, especially if the track is fast, so play him aggressively to win and place if Mother Nature cooperates, while getting some guaranteed value by keying him to kick off the Pk5, since he looks like he's getting all the best of it here, and looks capable of bouncing back to that monster win two-back.
    Finger Lakes - Race #5
#5 Shadow Caster Intriguing newcomer didn't fire sprinting on debut in March at Aqu for 40k, but now he returns as a first-time gelding in a spot where he can't be claimed, while routing too, which is something his pedigree is screaming for; thinking he's live.
#4 Tapit Happy John The obvious horse to beat was just a fine 2nd, albeit in the mud, to help erase to poor run two-back, so if he keeps his form then he'll be tough to deny here, though it's not like his margin for error is a big one either; still, looms plenty scary.
#1 Lightning Rob Well-drawn runner wasn't too far behind the chalk last time and will save ground with this post, and the distant 2nd two-back would give him a chance, though his figures seem to be stuck in neutral, and won't cut it today; underneath only.
Race Summary The price will be right on the 35, and it needs to be, as he has some questions to answer, but it's not like the 4 is any great shakes, and his good race-bad race pattern says he's regressing today, so give the pick a look in all the slots, and especially in the Pk5, and to kick off the late Pk4 as well, as a win would add plenty of value to both sequences.
    Finger Lakes - Race #8
#1a D S Advantage Lightly raced runner clearly needed his last off the 18-month break, but he ran nicely when 3rd to the chalk, and now, with that tightener behind him, it's go time; look out.
#4 Tommy the Torch The horse to beat wins this if he runs back to his last, when 2nd, some 3 1/2 lengths ahead of the pick, though he could bounce off such a lifetime best; trying to beat on top.
#2 Cin Cin Cowboy Breed firster goes for a 16% debut barn, and local ace Perez is here too, and he never rides for this barn, so you're allowed to think he's on a live one here; hardly impossible.
Race Summary There's a lot to like about the pick, most notably his upside after knocking the rust off last time, so play him in all the slots, and especially to end the Pk5, and late Pk4 as well, as the 4 will be singled on a lot of budgets tickets, even though he could come back to the pack a bit off such a big run last time.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mountaineer - Race #1
#9 Gliding Alone Taking a big swing in the opener where a couple of pace players may make the front end a bit inhospitable in the early going, and this guy's even kind of running style occasionally produces the kind of mild finish that could be effective if the race comes apart late.
#3 Dingdingding Looks like the one to beat from close range, and he has enough of a rating gear to avoid getting caught up in any kind of silly pace, should one develop.
#7 Shacklefords Storm Stretches out while meeting some other pace elements, so there are certainly some questions to answer here despite the sharp recent form.
Race Summary Gliding Alone will be a big price and probably won't do much here, but there is a scenario in which this pace gets a bit contested and falls apart a bit late, leaving things open for something to clunk up from the back.
      Mountaineer - Race #2
#5 I'm an Eight Has been in with some much better groups at Cantebury than he's going to find tonight, and he tends to show enough tactical pace to stay in touch in the early going.
#8 Dream Saturday Never know what to make of big efforts like that last one that came in a race restricted to horses who had never won on the turf. He can get in the mix early, but demand a fair price to find out if he's repeating that run.
#2 Cee R Bee Has some early pace, but he also has a modest rating gear that gives his rider some options on the backstretch. That two-back try at this level wasn't bad.
Race Summary I'm an Eight probably won't be an attractive number on the board, but he seems like a pretty logical kind of single in the multi-race plays with good recent form against better.
      Mountaineer - Race #3
#7 Echo Alpha Six He's not flashy, but his recent turf runs stack up pretty nicely here, and he's worth a look against this type of company on the grass.
#8 Kenya Road Turf is a question here as the only career grass try produced a very modest third-place finish, but he can get the right kind of trip near the top.
#5 Orange Punch Looks like the one to beat after the easy maiden win in the local debut, and his turf tries have come on tougher circuits, so he's not really exposed on the grass yet.
Race Summary Echo Alpha Six brings competitive turf running lines, and his two recent tries with this kind came on the main track, giving him some chance for better in this kind of spot.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #5
#6 MAGICAL MISTRESS Stayed inside as outer flow developed, late burst to just miss.
#1 ROYALTYWESTHO Won the last time she raced at this level, has rail and Gingras.
#7 BYE BYE FELICIA Loomed first-over before the fave and others passed by in :55.2 back half.
Race Summary Magical Mistress, trapped 3-deep on the rail until early stretch, finished willingly inside to join a blanket finish. She’s one of many with a chance in here but offers a better price than most. Play 6-1 and 6-7 exactas.
        Northfield Park - Race #1
#9 AKA LIL JAY Can shift out of ‘third’ gear in this field despite poor starting spot.
#1 JARMIN JIMMYS GTO Finished second the last three times he stayed flat.
#7 VAN VLEK Front-end threat if you can discount latest when he was far, far back.
Race Summary Aka Lil Jay finished third in three of his last five starts, once behind an odds-on favorite and once in front of a 4-to-5 shot. He has post 9 to negotiate but a weak field to run past. Play 9-1 and 9-7 exactas.
        Rosecroft - Race #1
#6 AUNTMILLY’SMARTINI In good from, in deep in latest, can use her speed wisely.
#1 ANNA B Can be close-up from rail with favorable post switch, missed a week sick.
#7 DOYOUSEEWHATISEE Mild first-over bid in 1:51.4, continues unlucky on post draw.
Race Summary Auntmilly’smartini carried her speed to a win and a second before fading on a double class jump last week. She’s a steady check-getter and should go well in this spot. Play a 1-6-7 exacta box.

          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

          Remington Park - Race #2
#9 Vestal Just missed in her last one, which was in February at Sam Houston; Violence filly was good in two of three starts and has won on the turf.
#4 Princess Phone Stablemate of top one has shown good speed going longer and was have to tune it up going short; would not be a surprise.
#6 Bad at Love Comes off her best effort, a second at Lone Star, and can run along for a piece of the gimmicks.
Race Summary Vestal has been off since February but lands in a good spot for her return; won over this turf course last November.
          Remington Park - Race #6
#8 Jefe Improved position going five wide into the stretch and finished fourth; likely to be a much better trip and can run down his rivals.
#4 Tough Company Was second in his last two and can hang on for a major share of this; will be right there from the beginning.
#10 Port Hunter Has been a good closer on occasion and can make a late run; can run on well vs. these.
Race Summary Jefe had a rough go of it last time out and made a good late run while wide; can benefit from having had that start over the track.
          Remington Park - Race #8
#1 Corluna Lost a photo-horse driving finish in the Ricks Memorial and can be tough on this class drop; finishes well and can be set up by a good pace.
#7 Quick Quick Quick Set the pace in the Ricks and just missed; very tough on the front end and probably will have some company through the early going.
#4 Decorated Ace Is another out of the Ricks, finishing eighth; ran a decent fifth behind the second choice in her first local start and with a clean trip can be dangerous.
Race Summary Corluna was tough in Texas-bred stakes races but also has been solid vs. open company; with a few breaks could've won her last two.

                    # 8 GAME DAY DECISION 8/1
                    # 4 INDEPENDENT INDY 8/1
MUCHO PROSPECT looks to be a strong contender. Has respectable Speed Figures and has to be considered for a wager here. This gelding is a contender based on his earnings per start in dirt sprint races. Brooks is very serious with this one, wheeling him back soon. GAME DAY DECISION - Always good to invest in a trainer with this kind of respectable win percentage - 15 percent - at this distance & surface. Must be given a shot given the class of races run lately. INDEPENDENT INDY - Has run soundly when racing a dirt sprint race. Delong is very serious with this one, wheeling him back quickly.

                      Zia Park - Race #5 - Post: 1:48pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 65

                      Rating:

                      #4 STRAWBERRY WHISKY (ML=3/1)
                      #8 INDY'S SONG (ML=12/1)

STRAWBERRY WHISKY - This horse could be tough this race, especially since Hebert rode last out and now should be familiar with this one. He has the highest (EPS) earnings per start. Take a long look at this horse. INDY'S SONG - Really figure this horse is going to be on the money near the finish line.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #7 VALUE N FAITH (ML=9/5), #5 SPINNING BLACK (ML=9/2), #11 POP QUIZ (ML=8/1),

VALUE N FAITH - Doesn't look to be in a convenient spot today. SPINNING BLACK - 9/2 is just not enough of a value to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back efforts. POP QUIZ - No picnic to invest in any horse in a sprint race at 8/1 when he hasn't shown any positive results in sprints in the last couple of months.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #4 STRAWBERRY WHISKY to win if you can get odds of 7/5 or more

                        # 2 TOO MUCH JOHNNIE 8/5
                        # 9 JUMP SHOT 15/1
                        # 7 RULES 8/1
TOO MUCH JOHNNIE looks very good to best this field. He has been running quite well and the speed figures are among the most competitive in this group of horses in this race. With Castillo aboard him, this gelding ought to be able to break out early here. Has to be considered a solid choice on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. JUMP SHOT - He has recorded respectable figures under today's conditions and will almost certainly fare well versus this group. RULES - Has quite good early lick and should fare admirably against this field.

                          Thistledown - Race #1 - Post: 12:50pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 54

                          Rating:

                          #5 BUBBA (ML=9/2)

BUBBA - It looks like Barbaran had to 'know' this gelding on September 30th when riding him for the initial time. Back on board again today. Racing at a similar level as last race on September 30th at Thistledown. I think Rettele has found a good spot for him, and I like his chances in this event. This gelding is in fine condition, having run a nice race on September 30th, finishing second.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #1 FINALLY (ML=5/2), #4 EL ANDARIEGO (ML=7/2), #7 DOBBYS SOCK (ML=6/1),

FINALLY - Hard to play any thoroughbred to turn things around if there is no reward to taking the chance. EL ANDARIEGO - Don't feel this questionable contender will make a winning move in today's event. That last speed figure was most unsatisfactory when compared with today's class rating.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - BUBBA - Missed the winner's circle last out on September 30th, but no one pressed him for the place spot. Against this group, I predict a better effort and give this horse the edge.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #5 BUBBA on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds

Ireland come off a suffering an extremely tough penalty shootout loss to Slovakia last week to unfortunately knock us out of the Euro 2021 campaign next summer. Coronavirus concerns and a host of key injuries (12 in all) have left our squad on life support as James McClean also picked up a red card against Wales on Sunday with a rash tackle to add further frustration to Stephen Kenny's intended lineup.

Take the Finnish to get the job done against the Irish on Wednesday as they battle Wales for the top spot in the group.
