Tonight, Hoosier Park has a 15-race card and a sequence of eight Breeders Crown Finals start with Race 8. The 0.50 Late Pick 5 begins in Race 11 and it will be my focus.

Last night the driver with the hottest hands was Dave Miller who had three wins. The top conditioners were Erv Miller and Joe Holloway, both had two trips to the winner's circle.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

2-Amigo Volo (6/5)-Has made it look too easy in 5 of last 6 starts. Still closed in 26.1 last week and was parked into a 27.1 opening quarter. If this Norman trainee is at the top of his game it should be the 8th trip to the winner's circle in 14 starts this year.
4-Play Trix On Me (20-1)-Interesting price shot who has been sent out after the lead in the last 2 races which is a new tactic. In the 10/15 win this colt beat #1 and #6. Last week blasted out from the 9 hole and was parked until getting the lead in a 26.2 opening quarter and raced gamely to the wire. Tonight, Joe B. can get a close-up seat and come on later in the mile. If the pace is hot the Toscano pupil should be passing foes down the lane. Using in exotics and should be a big price.

Race 12

3-Kissin In The Sand (7/5)-It almost seems like this great mare has toyed with her opponents when winning the last 6 starts. Was used from the 9-hole last week and still paced the last 1/4 in 25.3. This is her race to lose.
5-Warrawee Ubeaut (6-1)-Raced well last week in first start on Lasix to finish 3rd to the morning line choice. Champion 4-year-old has won over $1.7 million and if the favorite falters Gingras should be there to cash a big check.

Race 13

1-Tall Dark Stranger (3/5)-Trying to beat this unbelievable 3-year-old has been a recipe for disaster and there aren't many that have a chance tonight. It could be 20 wins in 22 tries and that is what probably happens.
3-Catllewash (5/2)-I have had this colt on my radar for months. Scorched the elim in 147.3 in gate to wire fashion. Burke trainee is at his best and went to the 3/4's 120.3 and paced the final quarter in 26.4. If Miller can repeat a similar trip and somehow TDS is not in striking range at the top of the lane, an upset could take place.

Race 14

3-Gimpanzee (9/5)-Melander trainee is having another fine campaign and is a perfect 2-2 at HoP. Raced well last week and his perfect record here tips the scales slightly for me.
5-Atlanta (8/5)-Winner of 2 straight had another really good year banking over $600k so far. It would be no surprise if she picks up the first HoP win in 4 tries.
8-Katkin American (5-1)-Hometown hero has raced 20 of 21 times at HoP and has 7 wins in 9 starts this year. Has a lifetime mark of only 151.2 and may need to go in 150 or faster tonight. Will take a swing for a price and many wins have been by open lengths so I don't think we have seen the best from this Guccio gelding.

Race 15

1-Sectionline Bigry (8-1)-Came the last 1/4 in 24.4 but couldn't catch Bettor's Wish last week. Thinking this time, a different plan will be followed and will not be almost 8 lengths back at the start. With main foes stuck outside Smith can be aggressive and could take a picture.
7-Century Farroh (4-1)-Faded down the lane a bit after working to get the top in a 26.2 opening quarter. This will be 2nd time for Lasix and wins haven't come as often this year but best to not overlook.
9-Bettor's Wish (8/5)-Morning line chalk has been a on big roll winning last 4 starts. Dunn's job will be more difficult with this post draw. Another win could happen so can't leave out entirely but will shoot against to find some value.
10-This Is The Plan (5-1)-Burke trainee has 3 wins this year in 12 starts and did come out on top in the Hoosier Pacing Derby on 9/25. It's best to consider even from the 10-hole. Gingras could work a trip and might be closer to the lead than Bettor's Wish at the top of the lane.

Churchill Downs – 8th race: Post time: 4:36 ET
10-Milana (5-1)

Debuting daughter of Firing Line brought $150,000 at the OBS March Sale after impressing during the preview session with a :10 flat breeze and has continued to do well in the a.m. while preparing for this six furlong dash for top class connections. A healthy recent work tab should have her fit and ready, and in a field in which the known element looks moderate at best, the B. Cox-trained juvenile appears well-placed for a winning effort. She’s listed at 5-1 on the morning line and is worth a play at or near that price.

Del Mar – 5th race: Post time: 2:30 PT
1 – Annangel (5-1)

Showed improving form in three starts in England before being privately purchased and makes her U.S. debut as a first-time Lasix user from a favorable inside draw in this entry-level allowance turf miler restricted to 3-year-old fillies. The R. Baltas-trained Irish-bred tuned up with a bullet five furlong drill on dirt (:59 3/5, fastest of 17) 10 days ago to have her cranked and ready, so at 5-1 on the morning line she offers good wagering value in the win pool and in rolling exotic play.

Del Mar – 6th race: Post time: 3:00 PT
3 – From the Get Go (3-1)

Though he’s moving up from maiden $32,000 to maiden $50,000, this second-time starter exits a fast, highly rated race and should find this group well within his range. The L. Mendez-trained colt closed with interest to be a distant second at Santa Anita 19 days ago while finishing more than seven lengths clear of the rest and won’t need much improvement to graduate for a barn that has strong stats with second-timers. The weight break with the switch to bug boy D. Centeno won’t hurt, either.

2 – Never Be Enough (5-1)

A winner of three of her last four starts, this Bay Area-based mare returns to Southern California with a legitimate chance to pull off a mild surprise in the Kathryn Crosby Stakes over a mile on grass for fillies and mares. From a high percentage outfit and drawn nicely inside, the English import has a chance to produce the last run if patiently handled in a race loaded with front-running types. A recent bullet workout at Golden Gate Fields should have her right on edge.

Belmont Park - Race #1

#1 Cause I Said So	Recent MCL winner steps up, which is never easy, but this is a crew there for the taking, the win was a breakthrough, and the price will be right; call right back.
#4 Shandian	Pace pressed won in fast time at Mth and wins this if he repeats it, but that win seems a bit fluky, and he could regress mightily on the rise; trying to beat on top.
#3 Kabob	Logical sort has run just three times and the Spa 2nd last time makes him a big player, but the claim was also voided, so there are questions attached; tread lightly.
Race Summary	That 6-1 ML seems plenty fair on the pick, especially if the 4 comes back to earth, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially to kick off the early Pk5 as well, since he's going to offer some value, and this isn't that daunting of a task, class rise and all.

Belmont Park - Race #5

#6 Journrytothemoon	Trombetta firster goes for a 16% debut barn, has a slew of works, meets a very weak crew, and has Irad, which says there's a lot of intent here; look out.
#3 Liam's Missy	Stiff ML favorite was a distant 2nd on debut at Mth, but the time was slow and this is the big leagues, so taking 7-5 or so doesn't seem ideal; second-best.
#2 White Frost	Mott miss didn't fire on debut but this is a patient barn, so she can improve on that distant 4th, though 5-2 is way too low to get involved; underneath only.
Race Summary	Tab the tote on the 6, as she's supposed to be live and taking money if ready, and that would be a great sign, as the 3 is no great shakes, so play the pick to win and place if the money shows, though you can get some added value by using her to end the early Pk5/Pk4, as a win over the 3 would knock a lot of budget players out.

Belmont Park - Race #6

#2 Mutamakina	Newcomer was facing eons better in Europe, and that close 8th in the G1 last time wasn't bad at all, so this is a seismic class drop, Clement is a solid enough 14% with new additions to the barn, and Lasix should really move her up; imposing.
#9 Hungry Kitten	Streaking miss has won two straight and is in expert hands with McGaughey, who won't run them where they don't belong, so while she's still looking up at the pick, she's got plenty of talent and should like this longer trip as well; the main danger.
#7 Lucky Stride	Stakes-placed miss has some class to her, and the 3rd last time in her turf debut was solid, so if she can move forward off that closing run she's a player here, though the gut says she might have a harder time facing the top pair; exotics appeal.
Race Summary	Swing hard if you sniff the 5-2 ML on the pick, as she looks more like 7-5 off her Euro form, and against a modest stateside crew, though you can get some built-in value by singling her to kick off the late Pk5, which is not a move the betting public likes to endorse, and therefore you can not only maximize her value, but you can have more coverage in the deeper ensuing legs as well.

Laurel Park - Race #5

#11 Papal Law	Has gone winless at this trip, but the recent form is really sharp, and route pace cutting back is always a danger in this kind of spot from a good draw.
#13 American Talent	Has turned in some pretty good efforts since switching to these short turf trips, and he might be able to get the right kind of trip tracking the pace from out wide.
#3 Lost in Limbo	Wouldn't be too excited to take this guy as the chalk, as his form doesn't appeal any more than the listed top pair, and he's likely to be a shorter price than both.
Race Summary	Papal Law cuts back off good route form, and she's probably quick enough to find a spot midpack with these and launch a rally on the turn.

Laurel Park - Race #6

#7 Quickstrike	Has shown a little bit of run behind a couple of runaway winners, and this spot might be the right one to get her home in this third start.
#3 Monkey on My Back	Briefly chased before fading in the debut at 22-1, but she drops big for this second start and might stick around better at another solid price.
#8 Magic Election	Distant third in a strung out bunch behind an easy winner in the debut, and they'll cut the tag by 60% for this second start. Big chance, but guessing the price isn't going to be fair.
Race Summary	Quickstrike can get the right kind of tactical trip with these, and her form through two races isn't bad at all when chasing tough winners over off tracks.

Laurel Park - Race #8

#2 Inside the Box	Only tried the turf a couple of times to open the career at Colonial, and the recent form is really good, suggesting she might be better on the lawn now than when she last tried it. Dangerous at a price.
#11 Deciding Vote	Finisher might be along too late to threaten for top honors, but she is a reliable type that can land an underneath share with these.
#7 Mike's Girl	Toss the rained-off effort at Pimlico last time out and her form looks quite a bit more competitive with these. She can sit close early while hoping for a rebound. Demand the ML price.
Race Summary	Inside the Box is in really good form on the main track right now and is worth a look switching over to the turf. She wasn't embarrassed in those Colonial tries, and she's almost surely better now than she was then.

#3 TATTOO ARTIST	Canadian invader has speed, has done little wrong in 8-for-12 sophomore season.
Race Summary	Clever Character finished second to the post 11 favorite in a torrid 1:47.3, foiling his bid for three wins in a row. But he remains in sharp form, starts from a favorable post and offers good value in a deep and crowded field. Play 4-3 and 4-11 exactas.

Hoosier Park - Race #15

#9 BETTOR’S WISH	Broke single-file lineup, measured leaders in deceptively good elimination win.
#7 CENTURY FARROH	Worked to clear in opening quarter, held well until late stretch with Lasix.
#10 THIS IS THE PLAN	First or second in 29 of 64 starts, ran second to Bettor’s Wish from post 9.
Race Summary	Bettor’s Wish, out and moving from fourth in the third quarter, measured the leaders and had something in reserve when he won his Breeders Crown elimination to improve to 23-for-41 with a $2.3 million bankroll.

#1 Hard West	Was an impressive winner vs. N2L foes in fast time and should have no problem making a step up to N3L rivals. A similar effort gets him to the winner's circle.
#2 Congrats That	Steps down in class after a good second, mostly on the front end; loves to leave the way and gets a good chance.
#4 Young Raymond	Drops in class, adds Lopez and seeks his first win since July; has a good closing move on occasion and might be a pace setup.
Race Summary	Hard West was long gone last time and anything similar will make him the one to beat; looks for a repeat out of this one.

Gulfstream Park West - Race #7

#3 Getthe Muny Bernie	Has been on the board in four of five and stretches out for the first time; has been in some fast races and should enjoy the chance to relax early.
#2 Flowmotion	Held on for third last out and won two straight at Gulfstream last winter; has a good losing move.
#8 Rhythmia	Was up in time in plenty of time in his latest and is tough at two turns; can adjust to the pace and will have a good chance for success.
Race Summary	Getthe Muny Bernie has been in the ball park going shorter and looks like the one to catch going longer.

Gulfstream Park West - Race #8

#1 Sammie Sunshine	Hasn't been to the winner's circle since last year but is going signs of improvement and the fourth-place finish over this track last time is a good indication of that. He was in a fast race and could be tough at seven furlongs.
#2 Halawallah	Gave way in an allowance at Churchill in May and has trained well for her return; has faced much better and can perform well off the layoff here.
#3 Bargainaire	Was an even second last tie and has been on the board in eight of her last 10; shows gameness from time to time.
Race Summary	Sammie Sunshine has the speed to contend early and can benefit from the ground-saving trip; capable of success vs. these.

Quarterback Sean Clifford hopes to help Penn State rebound from last week's upset loss at Indiana. But it'll be a tough task against No. 5 Ohio State, which is a 12.5-point road favorite at FanDuel.

College football odds for Week 9 are on the betting board and already getting action, most notably for the lone matchup featuring two ranked teams. No. 3 Ohio State hits the road for a key Big Ten contest against No. 17 Penn State.

Opening line
Michigan -24.5, Over/Under 53.5

Why the line moved
Michigan is a monster favorite on Halloween, and in fact, the first move on this line at FanDuel was to Wolverines -25.5. However, the line reverted back to the opener of -24.5 Monday afternoon on two-way action, with 53 percent of bets on Michigan and 51 percent of money on Michigan State. The total is up to 54.5 Monday evening, with practically all the early tickets and 83 percent of early money on the Over.

Why the line moved
The Mountaineers remain -3.5 at FanDuel on Monday night, but the betting splits are wildly in favor of the Wildcats, as early tickets and money are both in the 9/1 range on Kansas State. The total is already down 2 points to 48.5 Monday night, with 55 percent of early bets on the Over, but more than 90 percent of early money on the Under.

Boston College at (1) Clemson Odds
Opening line
Clemson -31.5, Over/Under 60.5

Why the line moved
Another game, another massive spread for Clemson, and the line hasn't moved at all as of Monday night. The Tigers are taking 59 percent of tickets/79 percent of money, but that money is apparently so light that it's not yet moving the number. The total is up to 61.5, with practically every ticket and dollar on the Over.

Ohio State -10.5, Over/Under TBA

Why the line moved
This is the game of the week on an otherwise very nondescript schedule, and Ohio State is getting all the early attention. Penn State's 36-35 upset loss as 7-point chalk at Indiana probably has plenty to do with that, as both teams head into Week 2 of Big Ten play. The Buckeyes are already up to -12.5, landing 92 percent of bets and 97 percent of cash on the spread.

Memphis vs (7) Cincinnati Odds
Opening line
Cincinnati -6.5, Over/Under 60.5

Why the line moved
Through Monday night, this line is pinned at Cincinnati -6.5, despite point-spread tickets and money running more than 9/1 on the Bearcats. That would seem to indicate pretty light action at FanDuel thus far. The total dropped in a big hurry Monday, from 60.5 to 55.5 before rebounding to 56.5, with 60 percent of bets on the Over, but 69 percent of money on the Under.

Opening line
Oklahoma State -2.5, Over/Under 57.5

Why the line moved
Oklahoma State looks to stay unbeaten, and early action at FanDuel leans toward the Cowboys, who are up to -3.5 and attracting 67 percent of bets and 56 percent of money on the spread. The total is up a point to 58.5, with nearly every ticket and dollar on the Over through Monday night.

Central Florida at Houston odds

Houston +3.5, Over/Under 77.5

Why the line moved
FanDuel opened Central Florida -3.5 on the road and is down to -2.5, though ticket count and dollars bet are running about 8/1 on the Knights. The first move on the total was down a point to 76.5, but it's now up to 78.5, with tickets and money in the 9/1 range on the Over.

LSU at Auburn odds

Auburn +2.5, Over/Under 62.5

Why the line moved
Perhaps surprisingly, neither defending national champion LSU nor Auburn are ranked heading into this SEC clash. LSU ticked up to -3.5 a couple of times Monday at FanDuel, but the line is back at the opener of -2.5 Monday night, despite a ticket count of 4/1 and nearly all the money on the Tigers. The total is up a point to 63.5, but FanDuel didn't have early betting splits.

Mississippi State at (2) Alabama odds
Opening line
Alabama -31.5, Over/Under 62.5

Why the line moved
The second-ranked Crimson Tide initially moved to -32.5 at FanDuel, but are down to -30.5 Monday night. Point-spread ticket count is almost dead even, although 73 percent of early money is on Alabama. The total is up two points to 64.5, with early tickets more than 8/1 and early money more than 9/1 on the Over.

Kentucky -15.5, Over/Under 44.5

Why the line moved
This line bounced around a bit early at FanDuel, dipping to Georgia -13.5 and back to the opener of -15.5, before settling at -14.5. The total is down two points to 42.5. FanDuel didn't have betting splits available Monday night.

#4 Dreams of Tomorrow-has been close in all four of his career starts and ran his best race in his only start over this track to miss by just a neck. Trainer is killing them here hitting with 8 of his 28 starters for a big 29% win clip and this one should give the big favorite a run for his money.

#6 The Sound-opened up on the lead in his debut last out but came up 2 lengths short and had to settle for second. Cox is hitting at a big 28% with his maidens in their second start and has the one to beat.

#1 The Entry- Trainer Abreu and Brown team up. #1 showed speed last out while finishing second in his first start in in a year and will improve. #1A-missed by less than three over this track at this same level.

Three-Headed Monster vs. the Field

Clemson wasn't as dominant vs. Syracuse at home, but it's not easy to hang 73-burgers on a weekly basis. Dabo Swinney was a bit lame for my taste in his post-game presser, but we don't punish teams for that, nor do we downgrade for non-covers when they're laying North of 45 points.

Although Alabama coasted to another win and my pick-pack purchasers were advised of multiple winners (that don't show up on my overall record on VI), including the Crimson Tide -6.5 or 7 in the first quarter, -12.5 in the first half and the Tide's team total 'over' 23.5 in the first half, it's 14th consecutive win over Tennessee came at a high price.

One of the nation's most explosive players in WR Jaylen Waddle was lost to a season-ending ankle injury. Fortunately for Nick Saban's club, it remains loaded at the WR positions.

It took a minute for Ohio State to get going, but the Buckeyes nonetheless covered a big number in a season-opening home win over Nebraska.

Georgia and Florida stood pat at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, after open dates.

Oregon, which still hasn't started playing, replaces Penn State at No. 6.

The Nittany Lions lost a heartbreaker at Indiana in overtime by inches (or perhaps less than one-half inch?), dropping them to No. 14. Perhaps that downgrade is a tad harsh, but PSU can get right Saturday vs. Ohio State and immediately propel back into the Top 10. By the way, the Hoosiers break into our Top 25 at No. 16.

The rest of the Top 10 looks like this (in order): No. 7 Texas A&M, followed by Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Michigan.

The Aggies were off this past weekend, but the Badgers looked great in a 45-7 home win over Illinois. The Illini got its only points on a scoop-and-score from its defense. With Jack Coan out, redshirt freshman QB Graham Mertz went off with incredible numbers and provided head coach Paul Chryst with one of "those good problems' to consider when Coan is ready to return from a foot injury.

Mike Gundy's Oklahoma State squad picked up a huge home win over Iowa State to stay undefeated and take sole possession of first place in the Big 12, while Michigan posted a double-digit road win at Minnesota.

Our next five from 10-15 are No. 11 Kansas State, which easily covered in a blowout win over KU, followed by Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Penn State and BYU.

Why a downgrade on the Fighting Irish after a blowout win at Pitt?

Well, for starters, Panthers QB Kenny Pickett, who was tops in the nation in passing yards before missing a Week 7 game at Miami, didn't play again. Furthermore, Notre Dame's five opponents have a combined record of 6-22 vs. FBS competition.

Cincinnati put together its most impressive performance of the season, trouncing previously-unbeaten SMU by a 42-13 count as a short road underdog. The Bearcats are No. 17 in front of Miami, North Carolina and USC. After an open date, Arkansas remains at No. 21 and can get over .500 (although the Hogs should be 3-1 if not for that controversial loss at Auburn on a blown call) and make a big splash with a win Saturday as a double-digit underdog at Texas A&M.

Virginia Tech fell to No. 22 after losing at Wake Forest.

LSU had to play a true freshman QB in TJ Finley, yet it still put up 52 points and prevented South Carolina from winning a third consecutive game. Texas is No. 24 and Boston College joins the fray at No. 25 after destroying Georgia Tech as a 3.5-point home favorite.
