Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach CFB Rotation #107 Tuesday Free Pick Akron Zips (+) @ Ohio University Bobcats @ 7 ET - Akron is not a good football team but 4 touchdowns is too much here. Yes, the Zips just got throttled by Western Michigan. However, the Broncos are one of the top teams in the MAC. Now Akron is on the road to take on an Ohio University team that could still be licking their wounds from a hard-fought loss at Central Michigan. Will the Bobcats win this game? I am sure they will but I think it will be much closer than many expect. Ohio U throttled the Zips at Akron last year in an embarrassing home loss. Last time these teams met in Athens the Bobcats won by "only" 3 TDs. That is the type of result I am expecting here as Ohio University also has a revenge game on deck at Miami-OH. Look for the Bobcats to get a huge lead here but then start looking ahead to payback against the Redhawks. So the Cats win big in this one but NOT big enough for their backers! Free Pick AKRON

FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR TUESDAY, 11/10:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play on my cut list for Tuesday is with the Ohio Bobcats minus the points versus the Akron Zips. Ohio (0-1) were upset last Wednesday at Central Michigan by a 30-27 score where they were a 2.5-point favorite. Head coach Frank Solich’s Bobcats are typically resilient after setbacks as they have covered the point spread in 4 of their last 5 games after a loss on the road. Ohio has also covered the point spread in 20 of their last 32 games after a loss by 7 points or less to a conference opponent. Akron (0-1) were blown out by a 58-13 score last week at home to Western Michigan in what was not an encouraging sign for second-year head coach Tom Arth’s team after going 0-12 last season. The Zips have failed to cover the point spread in 21 of their last 27 games after a loss by at least 20 points. Akron has also failed to cover the point spread in 14 of their last 17 games as an underdog. Lay the points with Ohio. Best of luck — Frank.

The set-up: Both teams enter off losses. The most important thing to remember when betting on teams when a season starts, is not to overreact. Both teams struggled defensively, but Akron's offense was downright terrible in its 58-13 setback to WMU.
The picks: Ohio lost 30-27 to Central Michigan. The Bobcats defense was shaky, but the offense was great, led by Kurtis Rourke with 231 passing yards and two touchdowns. Note as well that Ohio has scored over 40 points in each of the last two victories it's enjoyed in this series. Consider the Bobcats on Tuesday night.

ASA FREE PLAY ON: OVER 56.5 - Buffalo Bulls versus Miami-Ohio Redhawks, Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET - The Bulls defense created some big turnovers but otherwise wasn't overly impressive versus Northern Illinois last week. That being said, there is some value here with the over this week as Buffalo's game totaled 79 points last week and the Redhawks game totaled 69 points last week. Though Miami-Ohio QB Brett Gabbert is dealing with a head injury and might miss this game, his back-up AJ Mayer was very impressive when he took over in last week's game. In fact, he was very nearly the starter coming into this season so this is not a big dropoff if Mayer gets the start here. Last time these teams met in Buffalo the game totaled 93 points and the weather is expected to be ideal in upstate NY this evening. I'm upset I missed a better number on Miami, but I still really like the RedHawks as a double-digit road dog against Buffalo. I just feel like this Miami team is a bit disrespected. They were the MAC Champs last year, but not the clear-cut favorite to repeated, despite bringing a bunch of guys back.
I think it creates a rare time where you see a defending champ with something to prove instead of walking around and everyone telling them they are the best. I expect a pissed off Miami team when they take the field against Buffalo, the team everyone is picking to beat them in the East.
One of the reasons the line here is this high, is the fact that Miami will likely be without starting quarterback Brett Gabbert. I don't know that there's a drop-off from Gabbert and backup A.J. Mayer. In relief of Gabbert he went 16 of 24 for 212 yards and 3 scores. Mayer showed a ton of poise in a back and forth game. I really think he could be the difference maker in this one.
Buffalo is a good team and it wouldn't surprise me to see them win this game, I just don't know if they are as good as people think. No question there's talent on this Bulls roster, but they are missing their stud DE Taylor Riggins. They also will be down starting corner Aapri Washington and the other corner, Ali Abbas is questionable.
The Bulls pulled away in their opener and wound up beating Northern Illinois 49-30. The big thing to note is they won the game by 19 with 3 non-offensive touchdowns. It went from Buffalo leading 21-16 at the half to 49-16 early in the 4th and the offense was responsible for just 7 of those points.
They put up great offensive numbers with 7.0 yards/play, but let's not forget that was a Northern Illinois defense that only returned 4 starters from a unit that gave up 6.1 ypp last year. Give me the RedHawks +10!
