    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mountaineer - Race #1
#1 Be a Lovely Day Flashed pace and stayed on well enough behind an easy winner last time out when stepping up out of the maiden ranks for the first time. She draws a tricky rail post, but there may not be a ton of other speed here to hassle her early.
#9 Data Princess Drops in for this one with some recent back efforts that stack up nicely with these, but I wouldn't want anything shorter than the ML offering to consider it.
#3 Astromelia Distant second while facing better in that last one, and she has the tactical pace to work out a good trip behind the top choice.
Race Summary Be a Lovely Day may appreciate getting back on dry land after fading late with similar in the mud last out, and she's an improving type with just the three races under her belt.
    Mountaineer - Race #6
#7 Truffles and Gold Second at this level a few starts back, he has some finishing ability in a race where most of the main players are speed or chasing types who can't pass horses. Gets up late at a price?
#1 Epic West Has a right to be tough while coming back to face winners at a very reasonable level, but there is some other pace stacked up outside of him, and he could be vulnerable late at a short price.
#2 Two Dot Graduated with a big run at Ellis, and this race shape should flatter him a bit as he moves back to the dirt for this one. Along late at a price?
Race Summary Truffles and Gold can be a player in here at a price. He proved competitive with this kind not too long ago, and he has some finishing ability in a race that mostly lacks it.
    Mountaineer - Race #8
#6 Lazarus Project Claimed while in good form at Monmouth last out, and he isn't overmatched with this kind with a perfect tracking trip awaiting him tonight.
#7 Lovely Heir Looks like the slight one to beat with some really good Thistledown tries, and he gets a good draw to prompt the pace from the break.
#4 Johnny U Best stuff fits with these from close range, but he doesn't always back up his big races and might feel a bit overbet at anything like the 2/1 ML price.
Race Summary Lazarus Project is a good with this these, and he gets a good draw for his running style. The hope is Lovely Heir and Johnny U take enough cash to leave him at a playable price.

      #3
      Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

      Parx Racing - Race #1
#6 Writtenbythestars Ness firster goes for a 12% debut barn and has a few solid drill showing, most notably the last 11/8 5F drill, and she won't have to be a freak to have a say here; call at first asking.
#8 A Bit Bad N Boujee The best of the proven runnres was a decent enough 2nd on debut and could certainly improve, but it's not like she ran fast, and a few of these firsters look well meant; second-best.
#4 Trust Fund Girl Servis firster starts for a barn that hits at 11% with debut runners, and this miss has a slew of AM drills to aid her chances, though the 3-1 ML seems way too low; mixed signals here.
Race Summary Tab the tote on the 6, and the 4 as well, as we kick off the early Pk4, and if the money show son the former you can play her in all the slots and to kick off the sequences as well, since this is a wide open race, she looks well prepared, and a win in the 6-1 range would knock a lot of tickets out right off the bat.
      Parx Racing - Race #5
#4 Confirmed Genius Intriguing sort broke last-of-10 from the rail on debut and didn't fire when a distant 8th, but note she was part of a 9-5 entry, adds Lasix, keeps Pennington, goes for Butch Reid, who is 33% with second-out maidens, and drops in to the Pa-bred ranks as well; look out.
#7 Sail Above Homebred goes for the trainer (Servis) and owners (Chapmans) that brought us Smarty Jones back in 2004, and while this miss won't be reaching those heights, she has some very snappy drills for a barn that is 11% on debut but 20% with 2yos; could be a runner.
#6 Blissful Behavior Price player is the pick's stablemate, and she too is a second-out maiden, so that helps alleviate the bomb-job 9th behind her on debut, and with Lasix going on here she could wake up, at what figures to be a very attractive price as well; eligible to outrun her odds.
Race Summary There's reason to think the 4 bounces back in a big way off her debut, which wasn't pretty, so if you can get 5-1 or so the risk-reward would be there, and warrant a play in all the slots, though you can get some built-in value by using her to kick off the middle Pk4 as well, since there's a lot of different ways to go here, and a win by a mid-priced contender would knock a lot of tickets out right off the bat.
      Parx Racing - Race #10
#9 To the Flag Speedster catches a big group that is somehow completely lacking early speed, and while she's tired of late, she won't have to work as hard early; here's hoping she forgets to stop.
#8 Sally O'Prado The gal to beat drops in class and has run better figures than these, but she has a decided lack of early speed, which may leave her too much to do behind the pick; runs out of room.
#5 Beautiful Success FL invader goes off the claim for Jeff Englehart, a strong 22% move, but her recent form has been iffy, and former trainer Acquilano is sharp, so she may be over the top; tread lightly.
Race Summary Pace makes the race and there's just not much here to keep the 9 from making the point and widening from there, so play her in all the slots, and especially to end the late Pk4 as well, since she looks primed to lead these on a merry chase early on.

        #4
        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Dover Downs - Race #3
#4 ARTFUL DEAL Looms forward factor throughout at a decent price.
#1 ROCKIN PATSY Finished second in 3 of her last 6 starts, draws rail.
#7 SHOTGUN PERSUASION Attempted early re-take, never cleared, back-pedaled through field.
Race Summary Artful Deal took money and pressed the 4-to-5 favorite before tiring in the same spot. Her prior effort could be good enough if favorite Shotgun Persuasion runs as poorly as last week. Play a 4-ALL exacta.
        Northfield Park - Race #1
#9 BAD OUTCOME Good outcome predicted in dreadful field, today’s Best Bet.
#7 FEAR THE YANKEE Finished second and third the last two times he stayed flat in September.
#2 BREATHTAKER Second in 3-horse qualifier at Hoosier, draws favorably.
Race Summary Bad Outcome broke stride last week, but in his three previous starts, he met a 1-to-9, 2-5 and even-money winner. His best effort should be plenty good enough to beat this field despite starting spot.
        Northfield Park - Race #3
#6 GOODYGOODYTWOSHOES Back in proper spot, second-time Lasix, one to beat.
#8 JUSTRESTINGMYEYES Dueled long way, held third after two faves broke stride early.
#5 GOING GAA GAA Hit board in 5 of 11 but been burning money along the way.
Race Summary Goodygoodytwoshoes, runner-up in the Maryland Sire Stakes final two back, faced much tougher at Harrah’s Philadelphia last week. She gets second-time Lasix and should prove tough returning home.

          #5
          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Gulfstream Park West - Race #5
#5 Friendly Fella Has the speed to get out in front and he should be able to dictate the pace; won two of his last three and will be strong if he can come close to his last effort.
#2 January Won Late move has don well going two turns at GP West with a win and a runner-up and is a deep closer.
#1 Purecrazidude Stretches out to two turns and could improve; ran off the pace for a win going a one-turn mile at Gulfstream and should be able to run into contention.
Race Summary Friendly Fella blasted foes going seven furlongs and was an easy winner the last time he went two turns; big player from the outset.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #6
#2 Richard the Great Makes his first start since January, when he was sixth in the Sunshine Millions; enters this one fresh and likely will show enough speed to be the one to catch. Has the class to be strong here.
#1 Five of Hearts Was up in time over N2L company last time and stakes a big step up; the win over the strip was impressive in his first off the claim for Rodriguez.
#6 Outshine Was two back and was claimed, then ran against a much higher level and finished an decent fourth; can be a solid player as he turns back to seven furlongs.
Race Summary Richard the Great ran in graded races and upper-claiming events over the past few years and drops to his lowest level. This 8 year old has plenty of good works to his credit and it looks like Alvarado has him ready to roll.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #7
#3 Worth Avenue Didn't fire in the slop last time but had been in good form; has won a couple since being claimed by Rose and is solid at this level.
#7 Shes All Woman Ran a big one over this strip last time as she battled for the lead and drew clear late; capable of a big effort.
#5 Uncaptured Ruby Goes for her third straight win and comes in from Monmouth; was claimed two back by Breen and has been very good in her last three.
Race Summary Worth Avenue can usually be counted on in normal track and weather conditions and has been a stalwart at this price. Fits here and can beat her younger rivals.

                Mountaineer Park - Race #6 - Post: 8:50pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,300 Class Rating: 79

                Rating:

                #3 WATCH THE DIP (ML=6/1)
                #4 TOWN DANCER (ML=3/1)
                #8 NOT AGAIN JACKIE (ML=20/1)

WATCH THE DIP - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a good race last out within the last 30 days. TOWN DANCER - This gelding is sent through the entry box right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. Gelding is a few starts into a comeback here. Should give a nice effort today. NOT AGAIN JACKIE - I do like the fact this gelding is back in a race so quickly. Gelding is a few starts into a return to racing here. Should give a big race today.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #1 EPIC WEST (ML=5/2), #6 LIGHTNING JACK (ML=7/2), #5 CIGAR BOX (ML=9/2),

EPIC WEST - This gelding hasn't been getting the job done as the favorite. Hasn't been on the Mountaineer Park oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. LIGHTNING JACK - Awfully hard to play this questionable contender when he hasn't been showing any signs of readiness lately. Hasn't hit the board in any short distance events recently. Not likely to see him doing it this time out either. Quite unimpressive rating in the last race at Mountaineer Park at 1 mile. Don't believe this pony will improve too much in today's race. CIGAR BOX - Just can't wager on this vulnerable equine. Didn't show me anything in the last race or on October 24th.

Race 2 - Maiden Claiming - 550y on the Dirt. Purse: $5000 Class Rating: 63

QUARTER HORSE 550Y, FOR MAIDENS, THREE, FOUR, AND FIVE YEARS OLD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 126 LBS.; OLDER, 128 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000. NEW MEXICO BRED CLAIMING PRICE $7,500.

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 3 ITSY BITSY QUICK 9/2
                    # 7 LAYNIS STAR 6/1
                    # 1 HICLASS CZECH 4/1
I think ITSY BITSY QUICK is a quite good choice. The odds may be right on this one. Have to wager on this gelding with the formidable earnings per start in longer quarter horse events. LAYNIS STAR - Should best this group of horses here, showing very strong numbers of late. Will most likely be one of the leaders of the bunch going into the midpoint of the competition. HICLASS CZECH - He has been running solidly and the speed figures are among the best in this group of animals. Very good shot today on Lasix.

                      Penn National - Race #3 - Post: 6:52pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 69

                      Rating:

                      #9 ALLISON K (ML=6/1)
                      #3 KIM (ML=15/1)
                      #1 BLAZING BROOKE (ML=5/1)

ALLISON K - Looking over this filly's PPs I see that the last time she tried this distance she got a speed rating that would be good enough to win today's contest. This filly is in top condition right now. Ran second last time around the track and comes back soon. I like to see consistency in a racehorse. Look at this filly's PPs. Almost always in the money. Johnston has a knack for picking up animals that can be improved. Fantastic win rate with animals off a claim, and they just picked this one up out of her last race. I like horses that return to a similar class level after dropping at least five class points like this one did last out. I believe she'll be competitive at this class level. Dropping 5 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. KIM - Don't throw this horse out due to her last affair at Finger Lakes where she finished fourth on a track listed as good. Expect better today. BLAZING BROOKE - Trainer McClellan moves this thoroughbred to a lower level to face weaker company. Look for a nice effort racing against these lower level horses.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #5 LIGHT MY PATH (ML=5/2), #8 SHECOR (ML=7/2), #4 PICASSO MOON (ML=9/2),

LIGHT MY PATH - Difficult to put any money on this mare on the win end. Likes to end up on the board though. Most unsatisfactory rating last time around the track at Penn National at 1 mile. Don't believe this horse will improve too much today. SHECOR - This racer ran a substandard speed rating in the last race. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will likely lose today running that fig. PICASSO MOON - Tough to take this mount at these odds after the finish position (third) in the last affair. This runner ran a common speed rating last time out. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will likely lose in today's event running that number.

Belgium is off a very good 2-0 home win over England on Sunday. Their lineup is absolutely stacked with Romelo Lukaku up front, Kevin De Bruyne the best midfielder on the planet, Dries Mertens, Thorgan Hazard, Axel Witsel, Thomas Meunier, Youri Tielemans the list goes on and on. They are the #1 ranked team in the world according to FIFA and went a perfect 10-0 in their Euro qualifying group. They haven’t lost a home match since 2016.
Denmark is playing well at the moment also and are off a 2-1 home win over Iceland on Sunday. They lost to Belgium already in the reverse fixture back in September 0-2 and were only able to generate one shot on target while allowing Belgium six, and that was at home.
Denmark’s lineup is highlighted by Christian Eriksen in midfield with their strength being their backline consisting of Daniel Wass, Simon Kjaer and Leicester’s keeper Kasper Schmeichel. The problem though is they simply don’t have the attacking power of Belgium. Assuming Belgium strikes first, it forces Denmark’s hand which plays right into Belgium’s aggressive style and Denmark’s only advantage is taken away from them.
I think we are looking at a rather straight forward Red Devils win here.
