Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 4 Analysis

Woodbine Mohawk Park has 10-races scheduled for this evening. The feature goes in Race 6, a Preferred Trot with a $26,000 purse. The 0.20 Early Pick 4 starts as usual in Race 4. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 4

1-Northern Sultan (7/2)-Two race win streak was snapped in last after cashing a couple of nice checks in previous 2 starts. This post draw won't hurt and shouldn't blush at the company. Chris C's choice over #3 and #5.
3-Jula Shes Magic (3-1)-Finished 2nd in the Harvest Final for the gals. Filion takes the lines has the talent to threaten the colts if minds manners.
4-Magics Wizard (8-1)-Henry can put this horse on the point or in the 2 hole and if so, chances for success go up. Might be overlooked at the windows, has been consistently in the mix and is worth a swing at a solid price.

Race 5

6-Dreamy Fella (7/2)-Auciello trainee is camera shy, the same as many in this field, but usually is in the hunt. Drury returns and did close well into a slow pace. Needs a trip and may finally get rewarded.
7-Denali Seelster (3-1)-This is a drop and pop situation and if Filion can't get this colt to wake-up it may signal trouble. This is a spot to shine but my gut says to use others as well.
10-Carsons Shadow (10-1)-There isn't much consistency found at this class level. If Jamieson can keep this 4-year old close coming down the lane a picture could happen. Using at a price, held its own versus better and has one nice move.

Race 6

1-Oney Hall (3-1)-Six race win streak was snapped on 11/30. Started from post 9 in the slop and broke stride down the lane. Now draws the rail and should be in position to start a new winning streak.
6-Perfetto (9/2)-Has put in a couple of flat lines and has the gate speed to get a good early seat. Raced well in last in the slop and is only 1-7 on an off-track. Using just in case #1 isn't dialed on high.

Race 7

2-Tuapeka Jessie N (6-1)- Raced well in last coming off a sick scratch and missing about 4 weeks. Should be better tonight and Jamieson can work a cozy trip from this post.
6-Mary Kat (3-1)-Three-year-old has been sharp as a tack and has won 7 of 27 in 2020. There's no reason to leave off the ticket.
7-My Baby Girl (4-1)-Rolled down the lane in 55.2 in 2nd race off the bench. That start came from post 10 and should be in better striking range here.

Mountaineer - Race #1

#9 Zeyna	Has chased and faded in both lifetime starts going short on off tracks, and both sides of her pedigree suggest some added ground may work in her favor. Blinkers off, but she should get a decent trip near the top while stretching out.
#1 Ready Seeker	She looks like the one to beat out of a couple of tougher spots, but she hasn't turned in races that offered much visually, so it's mostly a class play here.
#4 Miss Magdalena	She has turned in a couple of decent efforts with blinkers on in the past, so getting the hood back on might be beneficial, but she has had nine chances and is much more likely underneath than on top.
Race Summary	Zeyna is worth a look if she's offering something like the 10/1 ML price, as she stretches out with a route pedigree while meeting a group that is suspect from top to bottom.

Mountaineer - Race #7

#4 Elusive Motion	Caught an easy winner in the local debut, but that effort stacks up nicely here, and he's quick enough to get in the mix in the early going.
#6 He's Reckless	Just like the top choice, he ran into a runaway winner in the local debut, but he has some room to come forward here in this second start off the layoff.
#7 Charcoal	Suppose this ML favorite can win here, but he has never run a good race going short, so I'll make him prove it to me. Pass on principle.
Race Summary	Elusive Motion should be able to get a great spot near the top, and though he is out of excuses after 11 starts, a win in this spot seems very much in reach.

Mountaineer - Race #8

#2 Ultra Diva	Likely second choice should be able to use her pace to get a solid jump on the chalk drawn just outside of her, but I'd want every bit of the 9/5 ML offering to dive in as she rises to try winners.
#3 Miss Wave	Tactical type is a really good fit here off the recent Charles Town efforts, but she's going to get bet pretty heavily with this bunch and probably doesn't have to win this.
#7 Mom's Magic	Draws well out wide to track the splits set by the top choice, and maybe she hangs around for an underneath piece at a price.
Race Summary	Very top-heavy race with Ultra Diva and Miss Wave likely to settle this score but Ultra Diva should offer at least a bit better price on the board and has a tactical edge with her early speed.

Looks formidable for the conditions of this affair today, showing solid numbers in dirt sprint races lately. VIVARO - Is a contender - given the 66 speed figure from his most recent race. BEAN AND THE BUG - Valdezcabral has this gelding racing well and is a quite good pick based on the formidable Equibase Speed Figures posted in sprint races lately. Has a sharp record at the distance and surface, which makes me back this gelding.

KIST - Is ranked totally uppermost in (EPS) earnings per start. A strong try right here can augment that total. A pony coming back this soon after a good effort is a good sign. This trainer sure has a knack for stretching out most any horse. Getting the extra distance sure seems to help Zielinski's starters perform well. Recent speed figs show dominant pattern of improvement. DEB'S ALL OUT - Have to make this filly a solid contender; she comes off a sharp contest on Nov 23rd. Look at this filly's PP lines. With each event she keeps getting closer. Past performance data show this thoroughbred with three improving speed figs. Barbaran should be on a live one in this field. You have to like that recent race figure, 63, which is the best most recent race speed fig of this bunch.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 POWER BANKER (ML=5/2), #4 ANSWER QUIETLY (ML=6/1), #2 ISLAND CHIC (ML=8/1),
