Saturday CBB Free play. My selection is on Iowa moneyline over Rutgers at 2 pm et on Saturday.
This could be the game of the day as the Hawkeyes take on the upstart Scarlet Knights on Saturday afternoon. Rather than lay the points with the Hawkeyes, I'll back them on the moneyline as we're being offered a very reasonable price to do so. Iowa has only managed to split its last four games but its two losses over that stretch came against Gonzaga and Minnesota - two quality opponents to say the least. Those are the only two blemishes on Iowa's otherwise flawless record. Only Baylor ranks higher in terms of offensive efficiency than Iowa while Rutgers ranks 29th in that category. With the Scarlet Knights checking in 148th in the country in defensive efficiency they're obviously going to have their hands full in this contest. It's also worth noting that the Hawkeyes are 28th in the nation in extra scoring chances per game while Rutgers sits 127th. Look for Iowa to turn those extra opportunities into points and ultimately come away victorious in this showdown. Take Iowa moneyline (8*).

I will gladly take the 5.5-points with St. Bonaventure on the road against the Spiders. I'm really high on the Bonnies this year. They returned all 5 starters from a 19-win team and are going to be extremely motivated here after letting one get away in their conference opener at Rhode Island on Wednesday.
Richmond is a good team, but I thought they were a little overvalued coming into this season. The Spiders were set to return all 5 starters until sharpshooter Nick Sherod was lost for the season in october with a knee injury. Sherod was 10th nationally in 3-point accuracy and without him the offense just isn't quite the same. They also without key reserve Connor Crabtree and possible Andre Gustavson (questionable).
Spiders are 7-2 to start the year, but did just recently lose at home to Hofstra as a 12-point favorite. In the only meeting last year, the Bonnies won by 5 and should have won by more, as they hit 50% from the field, while holding Richmond to just 39.7%. Win or lose this game should be close throughout and I just feel 5.5 is too many for the Bonnies to be catching. Give me St. Bonaventure +5.5

The set-up: I had a big play on the "under" in the Hawks and Nets last night, my 10* January TOTAL OF THE MONTH. That was a never in doubt laugher, as each team had played to a very high-scoring shootout in their previous game. Off last night's win, now the Hawks have to muster up the energy to play the lowly Cavaliers just 24 hours later.
The pick: The Cavaliers struggled to put points on the board in their first true road test on New Year's Eve, falling 119-99 in Indiana and I believe that trend continues here. If Cleveland has any hope of pulling off an upset, it'll have to slow this one down and grind it out. Considering all of the differnt situational factors I've listed above, I think the "under" is indeed worth a second look in this one.

UNC has too many key players opting out. Running backs Carter and Williams are both sitting out. Opt Outs and Load Management are two terms we need to get used to in sports.
UNC does have their QB playing and he was great this year. However, the Tar Heel defense will be without leading tackler LB Chaz Shurrat. They lack a nose tackle to stop the run and have a weak pass rush.
A&M QB Kellen Mond can run and pass. Their running attack is good and they will be motivated by missing out on the four team playoff. I expect them to play well.
I think we see Texas A&M win by 10.

FASHION FRAME - I'll forgive that last race on Dec 18th when she was beaten as the public choice. That race was pretty good for a $7,500 Claiming race and this filly's speed figure was solid. Have to give this filly a good chance. Ran a sharp race last out within the last 30 days. Past Performances show this horse with 3 improving speed figs. Berrios should be on a live one in today's race. A repeat of that latest effort on December 18th where she earned a figure of 76 looks good enough to triumph in this event. PLUS SIZE VALUE - The rider/conditioner duo of Leon and Urieta has a strong ROI together. This filly is in good physical condition, having run a nice race on Dec 16th, finishing first.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 DROP DEAD GORGEOUS (ML=2/1), #3 ANNMARIA (ML=3/1), #5 MISS IRISH BOSS (ML=6/1),

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS - I can't play this habitual non-winner. Gets the task executed infrequently. Finished first in her most recent performance with a substandard speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this bunch. ANNMARIA - Not a perfect 'spot' in this event. MISS IRISH BOSS - Mahoning Valley Race Course has not been kind to this less than sharp equine. 6/1 is just not enough of a price to take on most any thoroughbred that has run poorly in back to back efforts.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - FASHION FRAME - Recently, I had some free time so I thought I'd pour over the TrackMaster data. This horse stands out as the lone pace. Well worth a wager in my opinion.
