There is no doubt English is playing great right now and he finally got the monkey off his back for his first PGA Tour win since 2013. He won last week thanks to finishing #1 SG Putting while Tee to Green he was 13th, which I would have expected the winner to be higher than that out of a field of only 42.
But this is all about Webb’s game which is perfect for this course and his history here is too good to ignore.
Webb lost 6.5 shots on the field last week Off the Tee which was the worst numbers he has ever put up since they started tracking Strokes Gained data. Webb is not a long hitter and that usually doesn’t matter at Kapalua as the ball rolls a mile, but he uncharacteristically missed fairways and was further penalized with his lack of distance.
Even still, he was #5 in the field in SG Approach and finished T17 despite those Driver problems.
However, I’m chalking up the bad driver week as an anomaly and this week’s track, Waialae CC plays to his strength. A Par 70 with narrow fairways. Despite last week, he is still #3 on Tour in Fairway accuracy after finishing #18 last season. Being a Par 70, there are only two Par 5’s this week and that means two extra Par 4’s, and who led the PGA Tour last year in Par 4 scoring? Well, none other than Webb Simpson of course!
On top of all of that, Webb has never missed the cut here, perfect in ten tries, and has finished Top 20 each of the least six years including T3 and T4 in his last two trips.
This looks like a good bounce back spot for Simpson after what I consider a down week for him last week while anyone could certainly understand a letdown from English after his win.

The Sony Open is always the 2nd of back to back events in Hawaii to start off the season and one very promising stat you should be aware of is that in the 22-year history of the Sony Open, the winner has teed it up the week before at Kapalua 15 times, or 68% of the time.
So, if you like that angle, as I do, that helps narrow the field of 144 players down to 42 when trying to find the outright winner this week. I’m looking slightly down the list and taking Sergio Garcia at +4500.
Sergio was his usual self last week, finishing 4th in the field in Strokes Gained Tee to Green en route to a T11 finish, but lost strokes Putting which is always his downfall. He did put it all together though, not too long ago winning the Sanderson Farms Championship in October. Last year he finished 4th on Tour in Strokes Gained Tee to Green and the story is always the same with him. If he can basically not lose strokes putting, he will be right there on Sunday and if he gains any strokes at all, he is a very likely candidate to win like he did at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Besides Sergio, take a look at Mr. Waialae himself in Charles Howell III. He has yet to win here but his track record is impressive to say the least. Since he debut in 2002 when he finished T4, he is 19-19 in cuts made with 13 Top 15 finishes including two Runner-ups, two T3’s and a T4.
He is always worthy of a couple bucks on the outright market, currently at +6600, but I would go bigger and split up your wager on a Top 10 at +550 and a Top 20 at +230.

For Daily Fantasy players, Sergio Garcia can be had for $8,300 and Howell for $8,000. Both should be in your lineups this week.

The second Spanish Super Copa semifinal will be played in Malaga, pitting a Real squad that should have Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema in attack in this one. Real Madrid hasn't allowed a goal through two matches in 2021 and comes off a scoreless draw, but that's helped this stay under the key number of three since I anticipate that Thibault Courtois' goal will be under attack by Bilbao, who played Barcelona to a 3-2 result earlier this month. Ride the over in this one.

Picks Notes
#2 Ready for Change Barn has been cold to start the meet, and they don't get firsters set to go too often, but Geroux signs on for the debut with a couple of interesting works along the way. Not impossible.
#1 Caroline's Story Took to the trip quite nicely last time out, and while the price gets shorter today, she's a serious threat late in the lane.
#11 Jim's Bronze Star She has had some chances and has generally settled for underneath pieces, but she may be able to fire fresh here off the September layoff for a barn that's better than their meet stats indicate.
Race Summary Ready for Change debuts with a pretty solid pedigree for the trip, and the works leading up to the debut are intriguing enough.

Fair Grounds - Race #6
Picks Notes
#1 Half Ours to Keep Made a bid in the lane last out before going flat in the final yards, but his turf form is deceptively good, and he should get overlooked again here.
#3 Attorney Tim No doubt the one to beat off the recent form, but his late-running style will always leave him subject to traffic trouble or race shape issues. Respect him, but he's probably an underlay here.
#9 Victory Boulevard Drops after the non-threatening run with stakes company last time out, and this is a much more reasonable spot for a guy that was facing claiming company a couple starts back.
Race Summary Half Ours to Keep is worth a look at what should be a nice number on the board. He's 0-for-5 on the turf in his career, but he has landed three underneath shares and should at least be in the mix at the eighth pole.

Fair Grounds - Race #8
Picks Notes
#3 Leroy Jenkins Showed a bit of interest last out when turning in an improved effort in his second career start. He has been rained off in both starts, so getting on the turf gives him some chance to wake up for a barn that has been trying to get him on the lawn.
#4 Prairie Improved at second asking while routing on the turf with Lasix, and after tiring just a bit late in that mile try, the cutback may be just what he needs to finish with some more punch.
#10 Unitedandresolute This 5/2 ML favorite was no match for the winner at 1/5 last time out, and while he has form that makes him the one to beat, he has made seven starts and settled for an underneath slice in all seven. Close, but no cigar again?
Race Summary Tucker Alonzo's barn has been trying to get Leroy Jenkins on the grass in both career starts, and it was good to see him show a bit of racing ability to close the margin late last out. If he moves up on the turf, he's well within reach of winning this.

#4 Sir Roberto Didn't fire in his first one here after a maiden win at Kentucky Downs; gets a good pace in front of him and should be able to make up a lot of ground.
