    NBA | Bucks vs Nets
    Play on: OVER 239 -102

    Dave's Monday Free Play:
    1* on Bucks/Nets OVER 239
The Key: The knock on the Brooklyn Nets in trading for James Harden is that they aren't going to be playing much defense. Obviously it makes them one of the best offenses in the NBA, and that was on display in their 122-115 win over the Magic in their first game with Harden. All he did was post a triple double with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists. Kevin Durant had 42 points in the win. And now there's a good chance they get Kyrie Irving tonight. They will get their points tonight, but their defense will get exposed by a Bucks team that ranks 2nd in the NBA in offensive efficiency. The OVER is 8-0 in Nets last 8 games overall. The OVER is 5-2 in the last 7 matchups. Take the OVER.

      NBA | Mavs vs Raptors
Play on: Raptors -3½ -110 at linepros

      PICK - Toronto Raptors -3.5
      RATING: 30*
      ROT#: 562
I will take my chances here with the Raptors as a small 3.5-point home favorite against the Mavs on Monday. Toronto comes in off back-to-back 3-point wins at home against the Hornets. While the Raptors failed to cover in both games, this team desperately needed to get something positive going after their dreadful 2-8 start to the season.
I'm will taking to a shot with Toronto keeping it going here against a depleted and tired Mavs team. Dallas has a bunch of key guys out right now because of Covid and injury, they will also be playing on no rest after Sunday's 101-117 home loss to the Bulls. Wouldn't be surprised if Dallas played it safe with Kristaps Porzingis and rested him here in the second leg of a back-to-back. Mavs are also just 2-8 ATS last 10 vs a team with a losing record. Give me the Raptors -3.5!

            NHL | Sabres vs Flyers
            Play on: OVER 6 -105

The set-up: I expect the Sabres to open up their game here as they look to earn their first win of the year. Buffalo enters having gone 0-2 to start, losing 6-4 to Washington in its first game, before then falling 2-1 in the second. The Flyers are "flying" right now at 2-0, beating the Pens 6-3 and 5-2.
The pick: Buffalo's defense is going to be in trouble here against this home side which loves to push the pace. The Sabres strength is on the offensive end and I look for them to find the back of the net a couple times here as well. This one has "shootout" written all over it.
The is a 1* FREE PLAY on the OVER Sabres/Flyers.

                NCAA-B | Kansas vs Baylor
Play on: Kansas +9 -110 at Mirage

My free play is on Kansas at 9:00 ET.
When last season was shut down because of COVID, the Kansas Jayhawks were the AP's No. 1-ranked team. Key losses for Kansas entering this season were PG Devon Dotson (18.1-4.9-4.0) and the seven-foot Udoka Azubuike (13.7 & 10.5). The Jayhawks opened the current season losing 102-90 to No. 1 Gonzaga but then won EIGHT in a row before a shocking 84-59 home loss to Texas on Jan 2 (the Longhorns owned just one previous win in 17 tries at Lawrence). It marked the most lopsided defeat for head coach Bill Self in his 18 seasons coaching the Jayhawks and it matched the largest margin of defeat for ANY Kansas team in the 65-year history of the Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Other than that, it was "just another loss." Kansas bounced back with wins over TCU and Oklahoma but then lost 75-70 at Oklahoma St this past Saturday. The Jayhawks now travel to Lubbock to take on the No. 2 Baylor Bears, who are 12-0 (10-2 ATS), including 5-0 SU & ATS in Big 12 play (average MOV is 18.6 PPG). Baylor's Scott Drew took over a devastated Baylor program in the 2003-04 season and since 2007-08, has turned the Bears into one of the better programs in the country. Baylor won the NIT in 2013 and has made eight NCAA tourney appearances (26-4 last season would have made nine).
The 6-8 Jalen Wilson has bounced back after suffering a broken ankle as a freshman last season to average 13.8 & 7.8. Junior Ochai Agbaji (14.7 & 4.6) leads the team in scoring and senior Marcus Garrett (9.2 & 4.4) is one of the nation's top defenders. Sophomore guard Braun (10.2 & 5.6) and 6-10 junior David McCormack (12.1 & 6.2) round out Self's main contributors. Baylor lost 6-9 center Gillespie (9.6 & 9.0) but Tchatchoua is a 6-8 transfer from UNLV and he's averaged 8.8 & 7.0 in 20 MPG off the bench. The 6-5 Vital plays like a power forward, averaging 5.1 & 5.3 and is considered one of the best defensive players in the nation. The strength of Baylor's team is centered around its four guards, all scoring in double digits. Butler's (15.6-3.6-5.2) the best of the group but don't look past Teague (15.3 & 4.2), Mitchell (12.1 & 5.9 APG) or Flagler (10.6).
I used Baylor as a HUGE play Saturday at Texas Tech (and won) but I'll tempt fate here, looking to grab significant points with Kansas in this spot.
                Good luck...Larry

                    NBA | Warriors vs Lakers
Play on: Lakers -8½ -105 at pinnacle

Monday NBA Free play. My selection is on Los Angeles minus the points over Golden State at 10:05 pm et on Monday.
The Lakers are absolutely rolling right now and I don't expect them to get tripped up by the Warriors on Monday night. Golden State opened its current road trip with a double-digit loss to the Nuggets (we won with Denver in that game) before having its Friday tilt in Phoenix postponed due to Covid protocols. So now the Warriors are back on the floor after a three-day absence and I don't expect them to keep within arm's reach of the Lakers. Los Angeles has won five straight games, with its last four victories coming by at least 17 points. Perhaps most impressive is the fact that they've held five of their last eight opponents to 100 points or less. By today's NBA standards that really says something. Take Los Angeles (8*).

                      Play on: UNDER 226½ -107

Warriors vs Lakers Free Pick January 18, 2020
The Warriors' play on the defensive end has improved immensely since they got Draymond Green back in the lineup.
Through their last six games, the Warriors have held opponents to an average of 107 ppg and now rank near the middle of the pack for defensive efficiency (the number of points a team allows per 100 possessions). The Lakers meanwhile have the best defensive efficiency rating in the league.
Under is 5-0 in Warriors last 5 overall. Under is 10-2 in Lakers last 12 overall.
                      Free pick on UNDER.

                              Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets
Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets Over 237.5 (-105) (BetAnySports)

1* Under Bucks/Nets (7:35 ET): This is the matchup we all want to see in the Eastern Conference as reigning standard-bearer Milwaukee faces insurgent Brooklyn Monday night on TNT. The Nets now have James Harden and he had strong debut with a triple double, backing up Kevin Durant's 42 points on Saturday night. The team won, 122-115 over Orlando, and the Nets' last eight games have all gone Over the total. But now they are facing a Milwaukee team whose last four games have all stayed Under. I cashed in on the previous two, which were 110-101 and 112-109 wins over Detroit and Dallas respectively. The Bucks have lost just once in their last eight games and again rank at the top of the league in net efficiency. They are outscoring opponents by more than 10 points per game this season. With the Nets involved, you're obviously going to see a high total and I think you've gotta go Under on this one. It's the highest O/U line for any Bucks game all season and they are already 3-1 Under when the number is 230 or higher. This is too marquee a game to see lackadaisical defense. 1* Under Bucks/Nets

                                Big Al's FREE Flames/Canucks Winner!

                                Vancouver Canucks vs Calgary Flames
                                Calgary Flames -130 (BetOnline)

At 9:05 pm, our complimentary selection is on the Calgary Flames over the Vancouver Canucks. The new Scotia North Division in the NHL means all-Canadian matchups in the regular season, keeping those teams effectively in a north-of-the-border bubble until the playoffs arrive. It should be a very competitive group of seven teams with most believing the Maple Leafs will emerge on top. But the talented Flames may have something to say about that as they added two key players from the team they'll be facing tonight. G Jacob Markstrom and D Christopher Tanev each left Vancouver to sign with the Flames this offseason (Markstrom on a six-year contract; Tanev for four years). Tanev played on Vancouver's top defensive pair, while Markstrom had a career-high .918 save percentage and was named an NHL all-star for the first time. The new pair should help the Flames tighten up a defense that allowed over three goals per game last season. They're already paying dividends as Calgary registered its first shutout, 3-0, over this Vancouver team on Saturday. The Canucks are 10-18 (-6 games on the money line) in their last 28 off a road loss of three or more goals. Take Calgary. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
