    NHL Total of the Night

    4% Canucks-Oilers over 6 (-120)

Quick Synopsis: The NHL drops the puck on a new season and this one will be a season unlike any other with a new realignment of divisions to minimize travel amongst teams due to the pandemic and an all Canadian division with travel in and out of Canada to the USA restricted with quarantine measures. With that said let's head to an opening night match up in Edmonton as the Oilers welcome the Canucks.

Last season the Oilers PP hit at a 29.5% clip which was both the highest in the NHL and set a franchise record. Tyson Barrie takes over the quarterback on that powerplay with Klefborn injured and with a bigger shooters mentality than Klefborn the heights of this PP could have game totals moving off key numbers regularly. With no preseason and a limited training camp the 5 on 5 game early on for all teams is going to need work and we're likely to see a higher percentage rate of specialty team opportunities. Teams have focused on this during camp. The Canucks offseason saw them pick up Capitals goalie Braden Holtby while losing Markstrom to the Flames and while Demko should eventually be the future of the Canucks between the pipes they may lean on Holtby early and his core numbers last season left much to be desired on a good Caps squad going 25-14-6 with a 3.11 GAA and .897 save percentage. We should see some pace to this one from puck drop and with scoring talent through the top 3 lines of both sides we'll look at the total here. Last season the Oilers averaged 6.5 GPG at home with oddly enough scoring and allowing 110 goals in 34 games while the Canucks averaged 6.2 GPG on the road which was 2nd only to the Wild (6.6 GPG) in the Western conference last season. This number originally opened at 5.5 -120 which was a surprise as we had our number closer to 6.5 +100 so the move to 6.0 was expected and this could climb to 6.5 prior to puck drop so grab it now and best of luck to everyone this hockey season.

The play is Over 6.0 -120

              DALLAS @ CHARLOTTE | 01/13 | 7:00 PM EST
              CHARLOTTE +4.5
It's a bit surprising to see the Mavericks favored by this many points, considering the Hornets blew them out by 19 earlier this season. While there might be some euphoria around the expected return of Kristaps Porzingis (knee), he should see limited minutes. Dallas also is missing several key players because of COVID-19, including Josh Richardson, Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith. Charlotte could win outright, so taking the points is especially appealing.

                ATLANTA @ PHOENIX | 01/13 | 9:00 PM EST
                PHOENIX -5
ANALYSIS: The Suns return home after a blowout road loss against the Wizards. Phoenix shot a season-low 15 percent from three-point land (4 of 27). The Hawks have defeated just one team with a winning record, a 112-94 victory over the the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. Atlanta has key injuries and these Suns are too fast to handle right now. Atlanta will be traveling to the Mountain Time Zone for the first time this season. Previously, their longest road trip was to Memphis. Phoenix is 3-0 straight-up and 3-0 ATS after a loss this season. Take the hungry hosts.

                  BOISE ST. -9.5
ANALYSIS: Boise State has won 11 in a row and just beat Wyoming on this same floor by 23 points two nights ago. The Broncos are holding opponents to 29.4 percent from deep. They've covered five of their past six road games while the Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Lay it.

                  PHOENIX -5
ANALYSIS: Coming off an embarrassing loss at Washington and a 1-2 road trip, expect the Suns to take out their frustration on Atlanta. The Hawks had lost four straight until beating an undermanned 76ers team Monday. Clint Capela and Rajon Rondo are questionable, while Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovich are out.

                  MEMPHIS @ MINNESOTA | 01/13 | 8:00 PM EST
                  UNDER 219.5
ANALYSIS: The Under is 21-7 in Memphis' last 28 games dating to last season, a result of the Grizzlies' gritty defense and inefficient offense. Memphis ranks fifth in defensive efficiency. Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to return to the Timberwolves lineup, but he'll face some resistance from Jonas Valanciunas. Look for the Under to improve to 8-3 in the last 11 Memphis-Minnesota meetings.

                    AUBURN @ GEORGIA | 01/13 | 7:00 PM EST
                    GEORGIA -1
ANALYSIS: Something has to give here as both the Tigers and Dawgs are winless in SEC play. We will back Georgia for three reasons. First, UGA is obviously at home and there will be some fans in attendance. Second, the Dawgs will welcome their highest-ranked recruit of the 2020 class in four-star guard K.D. Johnson. He was finally made eligible Monday. Third, Auburn reportedly will again be without freshman guard Justin Powell due to injury. He's averaging 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists but hasn't played since Jan. 2. Auburn is 0-4 ATS in its past four on the road, and the home team has covered the past four in the series.

                    CHATTANOOGA PK
ANALYSIS: We love pick'em games and also have done well on Chattanooga this season. The Mocs enter having dropped three of four but have just one home loss all season and that was close to arguably the best team in the SoCon in Furman. David Jean-Baptiste is averaging 23 points for the Mocs since his return to the roster after the holiday break -- he originally planned to transfer but changed his mind. His team has covered 13 of its past 19 dating to last season. Mercer also enters having lost three of four with two of those defeats away. The Bears are 1-4 ATS in their past five.

                    ST. LOUIS @ COLORADO | 01/13 | 10:30 PM EST
                    COLORADO -140
ANALYSIS: These Central Division rivals are now in the West Division for the one-year realignment to help with travel in the shortened season. The Avalanche open as Cup favorites at William Hill Sportsbook (see news feed) and they do look loaded with arguably the best top line in the NHL in Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. The Blues, meanwhile, lost one of the league's top defensemen to free agency this offseason in captain Alex Pietrangelo and open the year without oft-injured but super-talented forward Vladimir Tarasenko. He won't even be re-evaluated until February following a third surgery in 28 months recently. Tarasenko scored at least 33 goals in five straight seasons before playing just 10 games last year.

                    VCU @ GEORGE WASH. | 01/13 | 2:00 PM EST
                    GEORGE WASH. +10.5
ANALYSIS: George Washington hasn't played since Jan. 3 due to a riot-related postponement in DC and a COVID postponement. When the Colonials lose, it's usually close: Five of their seven defeats are by seven points or fewer. LSU transfer James Bishop and Jamison Battle are the A-10's highest-scoring duo at a combined 38.1 points per game. VCU had a seven-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 15-point home loss to Rhode Island. There's little doubt the Rams win this game, but the spread seems too high via various models. GW is 6-2 ATS in its past eight as a home dog and the home team has covered six of the past seven in this series. The unusual start time also helps the home side.

                    ATLANTA @ PHOENIX | 01/13 | 9:00 PM EST
                    PHOENIX -5
ANALYSIS: The Suns burned a lot of bettors Monday when they mailed it in at Washington, but that may have been just a tired team playing a third road game in four nights and ready to return home. Coach Monty Williams has suggested a starting lineup change could be coming -- probably subbing out Jae Crowder. The Hawks begin a West Coast trip sans Bogdan Bogdanovic, Danilo Gallinari and Rajon Rondo, among a couple of others. These teams split last season, each winning easily at home. That seems likely again here. Phoenix is 9-1 ATS in its past 10 at home and has covered five straight overall following a loss.

                    PITTSBURGH @ PHILADELPHIA | 01/13 | 5:30 PM EST
                    PHILADELPHIA -120
ANALYSIS: The last time we saw the Penguins, they flopped in the Stanley Cup qualifying round against the worst team in the postseason, Montreal. The Pens were very busy this offseason, but few experts thought they got better. The Flyers, who reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in the bubble, will get two huge boots on Opening Night with the returns of forwards Nolan Patrick and Oskar Lindblom. Patrick missed all of last season because of a migraine disorder but had 31 points in 72 games the year before. Lindblom missed the last 39 games of the 2019-20 regular season after he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma (did return for two playoff games). Lindblom had 18 points in 30 games last year. The home team has won four of the past five in this series.

                    CHICAGO @ TAMPA BAY | 01/13 | 8:00 PM EST
                    UNDER 6.5
ANALYSIS: It's going to be a very long season for Chicago hockey fans as the rebuilding Hawks are without captain Jonathan Toews indefinitely due to a medical condition, lost good-looking young forward Kirby Dach likely for the season to a broken wrist suffered last month while playing for Team Canada and don't have either of their top two goaltenders from last year. Tampa Bay presumably will raise its Stanley Cup banner Wednesday even though no fans are allowed in attendance (the club may delay it until fans can be there). The champs did suffer a major loss, though, with former Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov out for the regular season following hip surgery.
