Well, let's see if the Badgers can screw me over twice in one season. One of my rare big play misses was on Wisconsin against Marquette back in early December. Seeing how the season is playing out that loss looks like a bigger and bigger joke. But this isn't about revenge for settling some cosmic, karmic score. It's just about cash. Now I know when you hear ?Game of the Year? you expect some kind of big, no-doubt blowout. That's not how this game is going to go. I don't care if a game covers by one point or a hundred; the tickets cash out the same either way. And this is going to be close game because Ohio State is a good team. However, I do think that this sets up well for Wisconsin and I do think that the Badgers will come through with a 6-9 point win.
In these major conferences there are some teams that just give other teams problems year-in and year-out. It could be the coaching matchup. It could the style and scheme that a team plays. But there is no doubt: as good as Ohio State's program is, and it is excellent, and as good as Thad Matta is, and he is elite, the Buckeyes just have trouble with the Badgers. Wisconsin has won three in a row in this series and they are a healthy 6-2 SU and ATS in the last nine meetings. This year's Ohio State team has been an overachiever. They lost the Wesson brothers, Luther Muhammad and right now they are down point guard C.J. Walker, that's four starters from last year that are out or not at 100 percent. (Also, Walker said he is going to ?try to play? in this game. He has torn ligaments in his hand and hasn't played since Jan. 3. I don't expect him to tip the scales.) The Buckeyes still have plenty of talent. But it isn't a fully formed team. And that's part of the reason they have struggled so much on the road. They have the road losses this year and they are just 8-11 in their last 19 road games. That includes getting blown out at Minnesota and losing at Northwestern. Ohio State is coming off a brutal loss to Purdue on Tuesday, blowing a late lead, and I think that this team could be headed for a little funk with games against Michigan State and Iowa on deck. Wisconsin is Wisconsin. This is one of the oldest rosters in college basketball. They are big. They are tough. They are experienced. They are talented. And they are almost impossible to beat in their home gym. This team also needs a statement win. They played great against Northwestern on Wednesday and if they continue to build momentum they have a great chance of winning the Big Ten. I think that they will punch their way to a hard-fought win here and I can see this game somewhere around 69-61 for the home team. We will have to sweat it out. But we should be on the right side here.
