Here’s what I wrote about the Cavs in my write-up backing them on Friday Night against the Knicks.
“I’ve got a buy sign on the Cavs right now. Cleveland’s season long statistics are flat out lying. This team went through a brutal stretch of injuries and attrition, when they were playing without both starting guards, as well as working in guys from the blockbuster James Harden trade. The Cavs failed to reach 100 points in nine straight games during that span, going 2-7 SU, 3-6 ATS. That’s half of their season long statistical profile – irrelevant numbers.”
“With Collin Sexton and Darius Garland back on the floor, and with both trade acquisitions (Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince) now acclimated, the Cavs are 4-2 SU, 5-1 ATS in their last six games; both losses coming when they stepped up in class (Lakers and Celtics). They’re picking up right where they left off when they opened the season with three straight wins as underdogs before the injury bug hit.”
Cleveland then proceeded to play a brutally ugly game at Madison Square Garden. The post-game quotes made me expect a strong bounceback here in Minnesota today, against a T-wolves team that isn’t likely to offer anywhere near the level of defensive resistance that the Knicks did on Friday.
Darius Garland: “It wasn’t even our pace; it was our energy and our will to fight. I mean we came out in the first with all the fight and all the energy we had. And then we just died down…..We’re growing into a really good team. We just have to lock in on both ends and play with each other.”
Collin Sexton: “Tonight, they were the tougher team.”
JB Bickerstaff: “We’ll be better on Sunday. We’ve got to do a much better job of passing the basketball to the open man. It’s a simple thing. It’s a simple adjustment to be made. It’s an easy thing for us to fix.”
Minnesota has used ten different starting lineups in 18 games and they’re still without their only All Star, Karl Anthony Towns; playing with arguably the weakest roster in the NBA right now. The T-wolves have precious little home court advantage – they’re getting hammered everywhere, just 2-14 SU in their last 16 ballgames. And ‘call out your teammates after another bad loss’ quotes like this from Malik Beasley -- “As professionals, you got to stay ready, now matter what. If it were a ballboy with us, you’ve got to stay ready” – don’t give me any expectations of an immediate turnaround in Minnesota today whether D’Angelo Russell suits up or not. Big Ticket: Take the Cavs.

BRADLEY @ INDIANA ST. | 01/31 | 4:00 PM EST
BRADLEY -1
Solid performances by the Braves during non-conference play included one-point losses against Xavier and Missouri. Competitive efforts versus conference rivals have not been produced, and Bradley finds itself in the bottom half of the Missouri Valley Conference. But this is an advantageous spot for the Braves as they face an Indiana State team that has peaked, winning five of its last six. Take Bradley.

ANALYSIS: The Canucks have split each of their last three series against good teams in the Maple Leafs and Jets. The Senators have lost each of their last five games by multiple goals and seven games overall after starting the season with a win. Fade the Senators until they can show they can be competitive.

ANALYSIS: The Flyers went up 2-0 in this game before surrendering two goals very fast to lost their lead. Both backup goalies will be playing after playing last night and Brian Elliott is 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA on the season. Semyon Varlamov has been the only one keeping this team competitive, take the Flyers at home.
