#3 Radiant Kitten He'll make his second start off the bench while racing as a gelding for the first time. He owns a couple of decent dirt runs in his career, and he should find this level a cozy fit for his current form.
#7 Just Ask Joel He's the one to beat, but he has lost three consecutive races at this level, so I wouldn't be too eager to land here at what will surely be an underlaid price. He can win without me.
#4 Preferito de Barbi He can flash a bit of pace, and he wasn't bad when a distant second at this level at Lone Star a couple starts back. His only local dirt route try produced an easy maiden win at the $25,000 level.
Race Summary Radiant Kitten has upside while getting some class relief. He can be fitter this time around, and he should be able to find a good spot tracking the pace early on.

Sam Houston - Race #9
Picks Notes
#5 T. J. B. Oprah Finisher earned his maiden win over the local footing, and he gets blinkers back on today, hopefully leading to a slightly more tactical trip.
#11 Morhawk Exits the same races as the top choice, and while he has finished in front of that one, it hasn't been by much, and this guy probably takes a decent bit more cash.
#2 Atomic Candy Second start off the layoff for this guy while shedding the blinkers, and he has been competitive with similar at decent prices in the past.
Race Summary T. J. B. Oprah may get a bit overlooked here, and she should be able to sit a bit closer to the pace this evening after trying to close from the back in recent starts.

Picks Notes
#3 Shadow Show Drops to the bottom for this layoff run, and although there are some red flags, this is not a deep spot for this level. He should be able to get in the mix early. The 7/2 ML offering would be playable.
#10 Film Score Big price should try to force the issue from the outside, and he was bet at 9/2 in his local debut at this level, so he might be worth a little shot at a much better number tonight.
#2 My Congrats He'll make his second start off a very long break, and that comeback effort should prove useful after showing some tactical pace.
Race Summary Shadows Show will need to fire fresh, but he meets an unremarkable cast here and might be able to take it to these early on.

KNOWN QUANTITY is my choice. Madrigal has this horse running well and is a solid choice based on the decent Speed Figures posted in route races as of late. I like the jockey on this horse - respectable chance to win the contest. Could beat this group of horses in this race given the 86 speed figure put up in his last outing. LORD WINSALOT - Could best this group based on the Equibase speed fig - 86 - of his last affair. Madrigal has this gelding racing well and is a decent selection based on the formidable Equibase speed figs posted in route races recently. SHANGHAISCHOOL - Earnings per start in dirt route races is reliable for this racer. Has very good speed figs and has to be considered for a bet in here.

PIZZA CHARLIE - Got some betting action in only race on Dec 4th at Los Alamitos (Thoroughbre, but finished second. Has a shot in this event. I like the case that this colt's last fig, 71, is tops in this field.

DEVIL'S TOWER - Hasn't been getting close at all recently. This horse will probably need at least one more start after the lackluster showing following the long layoff. This steed ran a disappointing speed figure last out. He shouldn't improve and will likely suffer defeat in today's race running that figure.

Ran last time around the track against a higher rated class of horses at Santa Anita. The move down in class should suit him well. This one has recorded the best recent turf speed rating at the dist/surf. LANCE THE LEGEND - The jock and handler combination have a lucrative ROI when they combine forces. Generally speaking, horses on Lasix for the first time should be considered. That's what we have here. WHISKEY VISION - Should do well today. Weight shift of -5 from Jan 8th race at Santa Anita. The addition of Lasix might make this animal wake up right here.

No picnic to support any vulnerable equine in a short distance affair if he hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last sixty days. DANIEL'S MAGIC - 8/1 odds isn't enough for this one when checking the most recent efforts. Notched a most unsatisfactory rating last time around the track in a Maiden Special race on January 9th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that rating.
