The teams just met on Monday and the Flyers won, 3-2, in overtime. It was only the third time in their last 19 games the Flyers had given up fewer than 3 goals in a game.
Now we have a change of goalies for both teams. Jeremy Swayman is set to make his NHL debut for Boston. He's the Bruins' fourth-string goalie. Boston also is down several defensemen. Carter Hart is slated to be in net for Philadelphia. He has a 5.32 goals against average and .843 save percentage in four games versus the Bruins this season. I'm sure Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron are all licking their lips in anticipation of facing Hart and a Flyers defense that is the worst in the NHL giving up 3.5 goals per game. The over has cashed in 11 of the Flyers' last 15 games.

The Boston Red Sox were held to just FIVE runs while getting swept in a three-game home series by the sad-sack Baltimore Orioles to open the 2021 season. The Tampa Bay Rays visited Boston for a brief two-game series on Monday, on an eight-game winning streak at Fenway Park, as well as having gone 13-1 in Boston dating back to August 2018. So naturally, the Boston bats erupted for 16 hits in an 11-2 rout. It was the second straight poor outing for the Rays' staff, as Tampa Bay pitchers had allowed 14 hits in a 12-7 loss to Miami on Sunday.
The starters for Tuesday's final game of the series will be Tampa's Tyler Glasnow (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Boston's Martin Perez (3-5, 4.50 ERA in 2020), making his 2021 debut. Glasnow entered 2021 with high expectations, after going 6-1 with a 1.78 ERA in 2019 (limited to 12 starts due to injury) and then following with a 5-1 record in 11 starts during last year's pandemic-shortened season. Glasnow was nearly untouchable on Opening Day, allowing just one hit and striking out six Miami Marlins over six shutout innings (Rays would win 1-0). As for Perez, he's had a mediocre career in going 56-61 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. You can see his 2020 season's numbers above but breaking it down, he was just AWFUL at Fenway in six starts, going 0-4 with a 5.46 ERA (Boston was 0-6!). In his career, he's made 11 starts vs the Rays, going 2-5 with a 6.09 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, while his teams are 3-11.
Is there ANY reason to back Boston here, after its 11-run, 16-hit outburst, considering the Rays have won 13 of their last 15 games at Fenway? I say N-O!

Meanwhile, BoSox lefty Martin Perez is set to open his second season with the Red Sox. He thrived against the Rays last season, going 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA. Im betting on both these hurlers and their supporting bull pens to help keep this tilt on the low side of the number

I will gladly take my chances with the UNDER 7.5 in Tuesday's late night action between the White Sox and Mariners. This matchup screams low-scoring. Chicago will have one of the best starters in the game going in Lucas Giolito. He held a potent Angels offense to just 2 runs on 2 hits with 8 K's in 5 1/3 inning in his first start.
Giolito could be in store for a gem, as this Mariners offense has struggled to get much of anything going. Seattle is averaging just 3.7 runs/game and hitting a mere .177 with a lousy .292 OBP. Chicago's Carlos Rodon completely shut them down yesterday in the White Sox's 6-0 win.
The key here is it figures to be equally tough for Chicago to put runs on the board tonight, as Seattle will send out James Paxton. The 32-year-old looks to bounce back from a rough 5 starts last year with the Yankees, as he posted an ugly 6.64 ERA. I like his chances of a big rebound. Paxton has a career 3.58 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
Last year was the first time in his career he posted an ERA over 4 and that's largely due to the small sample size. Paxton was excellent in Spring Training with a 1.08 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 17/4 K/BB ratio in just 8 1/3 innings of work.
Chicago is averaging a solid 5.6 runs/game, but are hitting just .247 as a team. They are also striking out a lot with 51 strikeouts in their first 5 games. They have actually scored 4 or fewer runs in 3 of their 5, as their run/game is really skewed by a 12-run outburst in one game against the Angels.
With the talent on the mound, the less than impressive offensive teams and conditions (lows 50's) far from ideal for a high scoring game, give me the UNDER 7.5!
