Race 3 - Maiden Special Weight - 6.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $40000 Class Rating: 71

FOR ACCREDITED LA BRED MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 122 LBS.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    # 5 BOURBON ST TAPPIN 9/5
    # 11 TOUCHDOWN JOE 3/1
    # 1 SAMMY DANSEUR JR. 4/1
BOURBON ST TAPPIN looks to be a quite good contender. He has been running solidly and the Equibase speed figs are among the best in this field. With a decent 80 Equibase speed fig last time out, will definitely be a factor in this race. Have to look at solely on class, with some of the best class figures of this field. TOUCHDOWN JOE - Has competitive Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet in this race. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Noel have shown very strong results recently. SAMMY DANSEUR JR. - He looks very good in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. Is a solid choice - given the 67 speed rating from his most recent race.

My free play for Wednesday goes early as I like the Reds to continue to mash the baseball and combine for another game with the Pirates that lands Over the posted total.

The Reds have played 5 games so far this season and they have scored 5 runs or more in each of those 5 games with 4 of the 5 landing Over the total.

The Pirates have scored 3 runs or less in 4 of their last 5 games, but after watching Cincy hurler Luis Castillo serve them up on Opening Day against the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps the silent Bucs bats can make just a little noise today to help this total along the way.

Cincinnati will be leaving town for a pair of away series in Arizona and San Francisco after today's game, so look for those locked-in bats to stay locked-in this afternoon at home.

Play the Pirates-Reds finale Over the total.

      4* PITTSBURGH-CINCINNATI OVER

An American League clash in which the road underdog is the better value for us with the Kansas City Royals handing the ball to Jakob Junis against the Cleveland Indians, rather than Brad Keller, who has been pushed back to Thursday.

Junis should shine in his opportunity here, after twirling a pair of shutout innings in two relief appearances against the Rangers already this season. Junis, who last worked on Sunday, has struck out three of the eight batters he's faced. I do expect him to be on a pitch count since he's had only two days rest, but even as the opener, it gives his teammates time to get him some run support.

Shane Bieber is solid in the Cleveland's rotation, but there was something uneasy about his start last Thursday ,when he took some time to settle in, probably a bit too long. And while he became one of just four pitchers to strike out 12-plus batters in multiple Opening Day starts, he also came with a loss and a 4.50 ERA.

Now he faces a team that has a team batting average of .252 against him. I know he is 4-0 in his seven starts against them, but this Royals team has the third-highest batting average (.307) in the league and has scored the fourth-most runs (31).

Take Kansas City here, as Junis finally gives the Royals some consistency in the starting pitcher department, and the hitting ruins Bieber's perfect record against them.

        5* ROYALS

Wednesday's free play will be on the Orioles and the Yankees to land just Under the total in their series finale.

The only reason yesterday's meeting between the teams landed Over the total was because the Orioles plated a pair in the 9th inning of a 7-0 game.

          That won't happen today.

Baltimore has still played 3 of their first 5 games this spring Under the total, while yesterday's Over was the first for the Yankees in their 5 games contested so far.

John Means is fresh off 7 scoreless frames worked in his Opening Day assignment that held Under against Boston, while Jameson Taillon will make his first start in a New York uniform.

Taillon is the unknown as he missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he did work 8-plus clean innings this spring with an ERA just over 1 and 14 strikeouts recorded.

I get the feeling the scoring while the starters are in there will be minimal.

I see a game that ends while topping out at about 8 total runs.

          2* BALTIMORE-N.Y. YANKEES UNDER

            MLB Sharp Action

12:35 p.m. ET: Pittsburgh Pirates (1-4) at Cincinnati Reds (4-1)

The Reds have taken the first two games of this three game set, winning 5-3 as -145 favorites and 14-1 as -155 favorites. In the final game of the series, the Pirates send out veteran Chad Kuhl (0-0, 3.00 ERA) while the Reds counter with ace Luis Castillo (0-1, 21.60 ERA). This line opened with Cincinnati listed as a hefty -175 home favorite. Sharps like the Reds to completely the sweep and have steamed Cincinnati from -175 up to -200. Some shops are inching closer to -220. Teams with a line move of 10-cents or more in their favor are 20-10 (67%) this season. Big favorites -200 or more are 8-2 (80%). The Reds are + 24 in run differential, 2nd-best in MLB behind only the Astros. The Pirates are -18. Pittsburgh is -14 as a dog this season. The Reds are 3-1 as a favorite.

4:05 p.m. ET: New York Mets (1-1) at Philadelphia Phillies (4-1)

These NL East rivals have split the firsr two games of the series, with the Phillies winning the opener 5-3 as + 180 dogs and the Mets winning last night 8-4 as -127 favorites. In today's rubber game, the Mets will start lefty David Peterson (6-2, 3.44 ERA in 2020) while the Phillies counter with ace Aaron Nola (0-0, 2.70 ERA in 2021). This line opened with Philadelphia listed as a -140 favorite. Some books opened closer to -120. Regardless of the opener, respected money seems to be backing the Phillies at home as we've seen Philadelphia rise to -150. Teams with a line move of 10-cents or more are 20-10 (67%) this season. We've also seen some liability to the over in this one. The total is 8 and the over is juiced to -115 or -120 depending on the book.

4:10 p.m. ET: St. Louis Cardinals (3-2) at Miami Marlins (1-4)

The Cardinals have taken the first two games of this season, winning 4-1 as + 100 dogs and 4-2 as + 115 dogs. In today's series finale, the Cardinals give the ball to ace Jack Flaherty (0-0, 12.46 ERA) and the Marlins will send out Pablo Lopez (0-0, 0.00 ERA). This game opened at a virtual pick'em with both sides listed at -105 odds. Respected money seems to be leaning on the Cardinals to complete the sweep as we've seen St. Louis rise from -105 to -112 or -115 depending on the shop. We might be in for another low scoring gamea as the total is 7.5 with heavy under juice (-120). Low totals have historically benefitted favorites as the fewer amount of expected runs scored are more like to come from the "better" team.

              Race 1 - Claiming - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $9900 Class Rating: 81

FOR ACCREDITED OKLAHOMA-BREDS THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NOT WON A RACE SINCE OCTOBER 7, 2020 OR WHICH HAVE NEVER WON FOUR RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000.

              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 3 FETCHUM KETCHUM 3/1
              # 4 EUROBADGUY 10/1
              # 2 DROWNINGNDIAMONDS 2/1
FETCHUM KETCHUM has a decent shot to take this race. Have to sense that this one will make a good showing following the quick comeback. Has a solid shot here if you like back class. Is a strong contender based on figures put up recently under today's conditions. EUROBADGUY - Has recorded strong Speed Figures in dirt sprint races in the past. Espiritu has shown excellent profits (+13 return on investment ) at this distance/surface. DROWNINGNDIAMONDS - Have to look at solely on class, with some of the top class numbers of this group. The speed rating of 82 from his most recent race looks competitive in here.

Turf Paradise - Race #2 - Post: 1:57pm - Maiden Optional Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $16,300 Class Rating: 70

                Rating:

                #3 IZERIGHT (ML=5/2)
                #8 TEQUILA TIME (ML=6/1)

IZERIGHT - This gelding ran well in his last race but just couldn't catch the winner. Note that he was well ahead of the third horse, and looks like a major contender in this field. A thoroughbred coming back this promptly after a sharp effort is a good sign. Just look at his last figure, 68. That one fits well in this group. TEQUILA TIME - Jock jumped on this gelding's back for the first ride on March 18th. Should be in tune with the horse even better this race. I think that the addition of the 'shades' today will keep his mind on the race at hand.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 RELIANT (ML=7/2), #6 SIR DEPUTY (ML=9/2), #1 DON WITH THE WIND (ML=5/1),

RELIANT - Will probably be at the rear with too much to do in the lane. Finished second in her most recent performance with a pedestrian speed figure. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field. SIR DEPUTY - This gelding registered a speed rating in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's race. DON WITH THE WIND - If he goes off anywhere near the morning line odds of 5/1, I'll have to pass.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #3 IZERIGHT to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/5 or better though

My comp play for Wednesday is the same as it was for Tuesday, the Denver Nuggets!

Denver won their 6th straight game last night as they dumped the Pistons by 15 points as the double-digit favorites.

The Nuggets are a perfect 5-0 since picking up Aaron Gordon before the trade deadline, and they will face a San Antonio team that is reeling right now.

The Spurs enter this Wednesday tip-off having lost 3 in a row and also 8 of their last 10 games overall.

This will be a payback game for Denver, as they lost by 10-points earlier this year at San Antonio.

Denver is still 7-3 straight up the past 10 series meetings with San Antone and they have won each of the last 4 played between the teams at home, covering in 3 of those 4 in the Mile High City.
