Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card ready to go at 7:15 EST. The headliner comes in Race 7, an Open Handicap Pace with a $37,000 purse. That race also starts the $1.00 Pick 4 sequence, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

5-Raukapuka Ruler N (5/2)-Draws well and should like the company. Stratton could be leaving and may find a close-up seat as there isn't much gate speed inside. Winner in 7 of 28 at YR should be a player but has been camera shy this year (1-11).
6-Twin B Tuffenuff (7-1)-Comes off a good effort from the rail after being used to hold position. Brennan got the pocket ride but was caught between going inside and finally pulled to go outside and lost by less than a length. Beaten by #8 who came up big at 4/5. Could look to fire out and may not look back.

Race 8

3-Herrickroosevelt N (6-1)-Faced straight Open company in last and took the long way around but did roll the back half in .55. Stratton takes over from Joe B and he knows well. Looking for a more aggressive steer and an efficient trip at a square price.
4-Bettor Memories (6-1)-Will need a top effort at this class but the same could be said for the entire field. This Burke trainee ships back from PcD and should be a threat from this post. Likes YR, has taken 16 pictures in 65 starts. Brennan could leave and land on the point or fall in right behind #3. Will take a swing for some value and look to beat #1 the 2-1 morning line chalk.

Race 9

1-Mighty Santana N (7/2)-Has been starting slowly, racing towards the back of the pack and then rallying in the 2nd half. Should be able to get away in good shape off the gate and then come hard later in the mile. Buter needs to work the right trip and could take top honors with a smooth journey.
2-Micky Gee N (3-1)-Comes off an even effort at this class in the 1st start off the bench. Did pace the back half in .56 but was caught outside in a race without much pace. Has taken pictures in 20 of 51 YR starts but has only received top honors in 6 of 26 races at other tracks. Posted wins versus better from the outside and looks like a major threat tonight.

Race 10

5-Shadow Cat (5/2)-Steps-up after a gate to wire 151.3 win and that was a lifetime mark at Yonkers. May try to follow an identical script, and get on the engine and not look back. That could work or might be able to get a pocket ride behind #1, then pull and roll by.
6-Walkinshaw N (6-1)-Had a nice try from the 8-hole when dropped to this level last week. Does have enough gate speed to get a good seat so Zeron should have options. Has beaten better back in March with the same pilot and looks like a player versus this crew at a square price.

Parx Racing - Race #5

#6 Doctor K	Should be able to handle this group with some sharp speed from the outside as he gets in with a much easier group than he saw at Aqueduct last time out.
#5 One Slick Start	He did things the right way when pressing early and scoring in that $25,000 MCL debut run, but he's definitely going to need to move forward off that one if he's going to land this.
#1 Mr. Doda	He has some ability from off the pace, and he might be the threat late if an early battle leaves the forward players vulnerable near the wire.
Race Summary	Doctor K draws well to flash his pace and take it to the other forward players, and he may be able to put this one away turning for home.

Parx Racing - Race #9

#1 Leader of the Band	She might be quick enough to find the front early in a spot with some route types signed on. Solid work in advance of this suggests he might be sitting on something good today.
#6 Butter Pecan	Tactical type steps up after an easy win against $25,000 MCL company, but that was a pretty nice effort, and she should be able to get a good trip spying the pace while trying winners.
#3 Peyton Elizabeth	She owns some pressing route pace, and that may leave her in a midpack finishing spot with these today while cutting back around one turn. She ran okay at this local trip in her debut try.
Race Summary	Leader of the Band can be tough with some pace from the fence, and there isn't much other serious one-turn pace for her to deal with in this spot. She might be able to get brave if she finds the front.

Parx Racing - Race #11

#9 Raggy Rocks	Willing to take a swing with this guy in this second start off the layoff. He owns some back races that could be competitive, and he runs from off the pace -- race flow works in his favor. Why not at a big price for low-percentage connections?
#1 Cobble Hill	He drops for the local debut, and he's another one who can show a bit of finishing ability with an advantageous race shape waiting for him. He's probably an underlay.
#7 Royal Coup	Drops after an even kind of run for $12,500, and he has a little bit of versatility that may give his rider some options out of the gate.
Race Summary	There are enough pace and pressing types signed on to think we can get something from off the pace. Raggy Rocks will be a price, and he does his best work when finishing from off the pace -- if all the pace shows up, he might get the right kind of setup for a thrill from off the pace.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #3

#2 Oh What Luck	Has speed these aren't used to seeing and is ready for his first of the year after scratching from an allowance race and should be able to put away this group at once.
#3 Fire Extinguisher	Broke his maidens against Minnesota-breds and followed with a third, also vs.state-breds, in the Northern Lights Futurity at Canterbury; takes on older horses here but clearly has shown he can scoot.
#1 Onomatopoeia	Improved to second after a dull effort in his first one here; has speed lately but back in his form there are several races where he rallied from off the pace. Has jumped from $3,500 on up to allowances and makes her third for Williams.
Race Summary	Oh What Luck crushed foes in his first three races and suffered his first defeat in his last of 2020; very limited in start (six years old, four starts) but has shown a lot of ability.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #8

#5 Dipping In	Ran second to Sweet Mary M in her first of the year and can be much better in her second off the layoff; chance at a price.
#7 Sweet Mary M	Beat the top choice in her second of the season and has enough speed to get to the lead and dictate how it develops.
#4 Lady Orchid	Classy campaigner makes her first of the year and will have to get tied on early going this short; has been effective going two turns lately but has won sprinting.
Race Summary	Dipping In won her last two of 2020 at Remington and was a sharp second here after four months off; expect a big effort from the Lea filly who broke her maiden at Saratoga last summer.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #9

#3 Rocketringo	Was third here for a higher price in his first of the year; will let it roll early and could be tough to catch.
#5 Speaker Van	Has taken on better company and likely will show a lot of improvement here.
#7 Beau Gosse	Ran on for third vs. similar last out and won here two races back; capable of another big effort.
Race Summary	Rocketringo comes off a third vs. a higher level and has the speed to be the one to catch.

Play: Red Card in the Match - Yes (+400)
Fiery West Midlands Black Country derby on Monday as century old rivals Wolves travel the short distance to the Hawthornes to take on arch-rivals West Brom, and we expect some cards in this one.
West Brom need to win here and with Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham all on deck, Sam Allardyce will no doubt see Monday's game as a must win three points if The Baggies are to have any chance of staying up this season.
Conor Gallagher in particular for West Brom has amassed the 5th highest booking points in the league this season and while Wolves have little to play for in regards to placement, effectively safe in 12th, they were flat out embarrassed 4-0 last time out at home against Burnley, so I expect this to be a circle the wagons type of game for Nuno here against their old foes.
Paul Tierney is slated to referee the match on Monday evening and no referee has issued more booking points this season, with an average of 4 yellow's per game and 0.15 red's.
We like the value on offer here for the Red Card market and advise a small play at the +400 prop.

I think about SOUPER FLY OVER here. He has been racing admirably recently while recording sharp Equibase speed figs. Should land on the board without a hitch. Could best this field based on the Equibase speed fig - 100 - of his last affair. GETOFFMYBACK - Must be carefully examined here on the basis of the numbers in the speed realm alone. MANOLETE - Win percentage one of the best in this group. One of the top win percentages between this jock and trainer make this horse dangerous.

VITA - Taking a big drop in class rating points from her March 12th race at Fair Grounds. Based on that key piece of info, I will give this one the advantage. QUIET BARBARA - TrackMaster keeps good stats on this type of information. This mare always seems to perform well after a layoff. When Lozada and Thomas combine forces on horses the ROI has been great at +48.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 KALLINIKI (ML=5/2), #2 G'S A LOOKER (ML=7/2), #4 GAL (ML=8/1),

KALLINIKI - The fifth place result in the last race was not the greatest. The speed fig last out doesn't fit very well in this contest when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a vulnerable competitor. G'S A LOOKER - Would have to get more than the M/L odds of 7/2 to wager on this thoroughbred. GAL - This mare is always around, but just doesn't finish on top. Hard to play her on the top end. Will be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed fig. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the likely underpriced equines list.
