N.Y. RANGERS @ BOSTON | 05/06 | 7:00 PM EDT
BOSTON -245
ANALYSIS: The Bruins are 4-2 against the Rangers this season and will want to bounce back after a tough loss. New York has lost four games in a row to end its playoff hopes, its best player (Artemi Panarin) is out for the rest of the season with a lower-body injury and Pavel Buchnevich could be suspended for a cross-check to the face in Wednesday's loss to Washington. Not to mention, the Rangers fired their GM and team president before that defeat. These teams are trending in opposite directions, and Boston G Tuukka Rask, who has won six straight decisions, should be back in net.

ANALYSIS: Drew Smyly is 0-2 with an 8.35 ERA this season and has allowed five runs in each of his last three starts. In his last three turns, he has served up eight home runs and issued six walks. The Nationals go with Jon Lester, who pitched six scoreless innings in his first outing of the season. Washington has an .853 OPS against left-handers, good for second in the league, while the Braves are second-worst team versus southpaws with a .564 OPS. Take the value in the Nationals.

ANALYSIS: John Gant, who is 2-2 with a 2.16 ERA this season, has worked at least five innings and allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts. He does have some trouble with walks, but so does New York's Taijuan Walker, who is 1-1 with a 3.0 ERA. He has walked 12 batters in his last 15 innings, and his one road start was the worst of his season. The Cardinals have won seven of their last 10 games and are much better at home. The wrong team is favored on Thursday.

ANALYSIS: Nathan Eovaldi is 4-2 with a 3.63 ERA this season but is coming off a quality start in Texas. He faces Spencer Turnbull, who is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA this season. Turnbull has made just three starts, performing worse in each one. The Tigers are 2-8 in their last 10 games, and the Red Sox really had no business being in Wednesday's contest, but Detroit's relievers gave up a game-tying, two-run homer in the eighth, got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth, then almost blew a three-run lead in extra innings before holding on for a 6-5 win. Take Boston to win the series finale.

ANALYSIS: Not a ton of value on Thursday's board with a bunch of heavy favorites, but I do like Boston here. The Rangers are in the second of a back-to-back and essentially expended all their remaining energy and motivation in Wednesday's brawl-filled game vs. the Capitals. New York also has ruled out a handful of key players for the final few games. The Bruins are still playing for postseason seeding and possibly a division title. Boston has won eight of the past 10 in the series.

ANALYSIS: The Tigers snapped a six-game skid with a 10-inning upset in Boston on Wednesday, but I expect a Red Sox rout here (-103 on runline) behind ace Nathan Eovaldi (4-2, 2.63). Eovaldi is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three starts against the Tigers, but he hasn't faced them since 2015. That just means few Detroit batters have seen his nasty stuff; the Tigers also are giving Miguel Cabrera the day off, although he hasn't been very good. They start Spencer Turnbull (1-2, 4.50) -- he of the 3-17 record back in 2019. Turnbull isn't that bad these days but still not great.

ANALYSIS: Here's another game where I think the wrong team is favored but could flip by first pitch; since it hasn't yet, we will take the Nats on the runline at -160. They start lefty Jon Lester, who threw five shutout innings vs. Miami in his team and season debut last Friday. He is 7-2 with a 2.30 ERA in 11 starts against Atlanta, which has just one victory this year vs. a lefty. Lester catches one break in that the Braves are sitting reigning NL MVP Freddie Freeman. It's southpaw Drew Smyly (0-2, 8.25) for the Braves, and he has been terrible.
