    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Pimlico - Race #1
#8 Backwoods Boogie He should really appreciate getting back on the grass where he ran well a few times earlier in his career, and the surface switch might help him snap out of it after a couple modest tries.
#9 Ready to Run He's just 1-for-12 lifetime on the lawn, but he owns a handful of decent back efforts going short on the turf, and the price might be right to try to get him in the picture.
#2 Barnstorm He'll try the turf for the first time today, but his form is heading in the right direction in recent starts, and he may get overlooked on the board. Underneath?
Race Summary Backwoods Boogie has run well on the grass in the past when facing tougher, and he has some room to improve while getting back to his preferred footing.
    Pimlico - Race #3
#8 Mr. Shades of Gray He gets on the grass for the first time, but the recent form suggests he'll be able to find a good spot tracking the pace from close range, and he's very capable with these if he likes the lawn.
#2 Stare Decisis He's getting into the easiest spot he has seen so far while adding blinks and trying the locals. There is precedent for this type of shipper to land a race like this.
#9 Makoto He owns a handful of running lines that would make him pretty tough here, but he's dropping off the bench while getting blinkers on. Not sure what to expect here, but it feels like he'll be an underlay either way.
Race Summary Mr. Shades of Gray tests the turf for the first time, but the trip should be there for him from close range after stretching out with a decent enough first route try last out.
    Pimlico - Race #7
#3 Striking It Lucky He will need to come forward if he's going to land this, but he should get an honest setup today for his late run. Demand a price off the bench.
#2 Trouble Coffee His form can be a bit hit or miss, but the two latest tries at Gulfstream stack up very nicely with what it would take to land this. Still, the 5/2 ML price would feel a bit short to me.
#7 Miami Mumbles He's bred to be able to handle this kind of turf trip, and he has only tried the lawn once in the past. He improved with the locals last out, and he's interesting if that form can transfer to the turf.
Race Summary Striking It Lucky should get a bit overlooked on the board, but there are a couple of forward players in here that may produce a fair pace, and he has some of the best finishing potential in the group.

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      The Meadows - Race #4
#7 CASH N CHIPS Hit best stride here in April, returns home, will need live cover.
#1 R HERBIE BLUECHIP Hit board in 8 of 12 this year, moves outside in with Palone.
#8 MAHOMES Can put speed to good use despite post, use in gimmicks at big price.
Race Summary Cash N Chips rallied for three wins at the Meadows in a 30-day span recently, then failed to capitalize on live cover in Ohio Sire Stakes action. She can recapture her winning form with the right trip. Play a 1-7-8 exacta box.
      Hoosier Park - Race #2
#5 WILLEY BITE Plays to a steady beat, steps up off the claim, gets Tetrick.
#2 STAR OF OZ Settled for a share in his last three starts, favorable post.
#6 ROYAL ROCKS Slowed it down in second quarter, never threatened, changes hands.
Race Summary Willey Bite, claimed out of his last three starts, backed off an early pace battle in the slop, tipped outside the pocket sitter for the stretch drive but paced evenly behind wire-to-wire winner Royal Rocks. The 1:54 clocking was the second fastest on the night. Play 5-2 and 5-6 exactas.
      Yonkers - Race #3
#3 E R HILARY Can carry speed the distance in second recent try under these conditions.
#8 TELL ME A JOKE Can make exotic wagers pay off if she gets forward position early.
#1 ROCKIN THE BOYS A Gets class relief, gets rail, seeks recent form reversal.
Race Summary E R Hilary brushed early to a clear lead from post 8, held well through a :56.3 middle half before tiring on the class drop to this level. She draws closer inside and can control the pace throughout as today's Best Bet.

        #4
        Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

        Gulfstream Park - Race #5
#5 Imperial Mission Moves the best in the final quarter and comes in off a sweeping run for the victory. Has recently changed his running style after attempting to run on the front end for much of his career and he's getting positive results. Can benefit from following a legit pace here.
#7 Kroy Rarely runs a bad one and because of that has been claimed in four of his last six races, mostly recently by De La Cerda. Strong player on the front end.
#8 J P Hellish Set the pace and finished fourth in the Turf Classic Stakes at Tampa; can be in close attendance of the pace and has defeated some of the main combatants.
Race Summary Imperial Mission is ideally placed with these and can make them pay for their early efforts; strong late move and they'll have to dig in to hold him off.
        Gulfstream Park - Race #7
#3 Running Memories Doesn't have the experience of a lot of these but has made the best of her appearances with two wins in three starts; her only loss was in a stakes race and she can apply a lot of heat to this group.
#4 My Sarasota Star Has the speed to get to the lead and is dangerous if clear early; fits with these.
#5 War Star On the board in her last five and was getting to the winner last time; can get a perfect trip.
Race Summary Running Memories has been right there in each of her starts and can take it to them when called upon; one to beat.
        Gulfstream Park - Race #8
#5 Tony's Rose Set the pace and tired going long and can show all kinds of late energy when turning back in distance.
#4 Heir Ball Gave way last time and takes a class drop for this; was claimed two back by Joseph and is now at her lowest level.
#6 R Next Roll Has excellent speed and can be effective as she steps up in class; will force the issue from the start.
Race Summary Tony's Rose is back to five furlongs, which is her preferred distance; has a decent late move and is perfectly placed.

Handicapped by The Turf Club Analysts

              Lone Star Park - Race #2 - Post: 7:03pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 80

              Rating:

              #6 ETERNAL FORCE (ML=3/1)
              #1 SHAKIN SILVER (ML=4/1)

ETERNAL FORCE - This gelding should give a good showing of himself in today's event. SHAKIN SILVER - The jockey/trainer tandem of Risenhoover and Wallis has a strong ROI together. I took a look at this gelding's finishes. He's almost always on the board. This animal earns a lot of cash per start. Tops in this affair.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 MIRACLE HILL (ML=2/1), #8 CONTINUUM (ML=5/1), #4 LET IT B (ML=6/1),

MIRACLE HILL - In any race of 5 1/2 furlongs, I like to back a contender that has been looking good in short distance races recently. CONTINUUM - No value in betting on this runner. Probably won't improve off that Apr 24th clash. LET IT B - This horse ran a most unsatisfactory speed rating last race out. He shouldn't run better and will probably lose today running that fig.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #6 ETERNAL FORCE to win if you can get odds of 2/1 or more

Race 4 - Maiden Claiming - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $10000 Class Rating: 67

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000.

                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 1 LUCKY CAUSE 15/1
                  # 6 PROOF OF PARANOIA 6/1
                  # 3 LUCA'S RIDE 2/1
LUCKY CAUSE is my selection particularly if the morning line of 15/1 holds. Exhibits the look of a profitable play, averaging a solid 61 speed figure which is one of the best in this field. Has to be given a shot versus this group displaying competitive figures lately and an average speed figure of 61 under similar conditions. PROOF OF PARANOIA - Is a solid choice - given the 63 speed rating from his most recent race. LUCA'S RIDE - Has performed solidly as of late in sprint races, posting a nifty 66 avg speed fig. Has strong speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in here.

                    Pimlico - Race #5 - Post: 2:52pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $27,000 Class Rating: 69

                    Rating:

                    #10 JESTFUL (ML=2/1)

JESTFUL - Was in a $30,000 Maiden Claiming race at Turfway Park last out. That race had an Equibase class figure of 89 and he is moving down in this field. A certain serious competitor. Last two speed figures (78, 72) were strong. Anything close to that right here in this race and this one could win easily. Russell and Cooney perform well when they combine forces. It's hard to beat a +167 return on investment for a rider and trainer. If this horse repeats any of his last 3 outings, he'll have a great shot to win in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 ZEALIN IT (ML=3/1), #16 OUCH OUCH OUCH (ML=3/1), #11 UNDAUNTED RAGS (ML=4/1),

ZEALIN IT - Don't believe this questionable contender has what it takes to be victorious in today's event. OUCH OUCH OUCH - Just can't wager on this pony. Didn't show me anything in the last race or on Apr 9th. UNDAUNTED RAGS - If he goes off anywhere close to the morning line odds of 4/1, I'll have to pass.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - JESTFUL - Second race back this magnificent animal had a speed number of 78 on the turf. Forget this gelding's last race, he is prime for a big race today.
