The favored Hurricanes roll into Nashville up 3 to 2 and look to close out the first round of the Central division playoffs on the road. Will the Preds and 5700 rabid fans have something to say about that? I doubt it.
Carolina was a powerhouse all year, with Nashville sneaking into the playoffs near the deadline. The Preds showed grit, coming back from 0-2, and winning games 3 and 4 in overtime, but were outclassed in game 5, and only a knuckleball goal for and a Carolina tally called back allowed the game to go to overtime.
Carolina has more firepower, arguably better goaltending in Nedeljkovic, and with the return of healthy Slavin, a strong defensive core. With Capitan Staal and Aho on a mission, look for Carolina to finish the series in six, leaving smashville fans singing the blues until next year.

My selection is on Carolina over Nashville at 9:35 pm et on Thursday.
So here we are in Game 6 of this series and while it's been close, I've never felt the outcome was really in doubt. A bounce or two Carolina's way and this series would have been over a game or two ago. The Hurricanes have carried the play, outshooting the Preds in all but Game 2 - a game they won by a 3-0 score. Preds goaltender Juuse Saros has been the great equalizer but the Canes may have cracked his armor last game as they won on a bit of a bad goal (some would call it a bad bounce) in overtime. Note that the Canes have inexplicably performed particularly well off an overtime win over the last two seasons, going 17-3 while outscoring their opponents by 1.6 goals on average in that spot. Meanwhile, the Preds are just 9-14 at home revenging a one-goal loss against an opponent over the last three seasons, outscored by an average margin of 0.5 goals. Finally, note that the Canes have allowed just 1.6 goals per game on the six occasions where they've come off five straight games scoring three goals or more this season. With three consecutive games needing overtime to decide you might assume that this series is heading seven games but I simply feel Carolina is the superior team and will close this series out on Thursday night. Take Carolina (8*).
