The Mariners and Angels continue a four-game series Saturday night in Anaheim. Seattle won 6-2 on Thursday, while the Angels rebounded with a 3-2 win Friday. Oakland leads the NL West at 34-25 (Astros are one game back) but about 60 games into the current season, neither the 29-30 Mariners nor the 26-31 Angels seem like postseason contenders. Seattle's last postseason appearance was 2001 (that team set a single-season MLB record with 116 wins) and LA's only postseason appearance in the last 11 seasons came back in 2014 (lost 3-0 in the wild card round).
Saturday's starting pitching matchup features Yusei Kikuchi (3-3, 3.88 ERA) of Seattle against Alex Cobb (3-2, 3.78 ERA) of Los Angeles. This is Kikuchi's third big league season (all with Seattle) and he's shown improvement. He made 41 starts in 2019 and 202o, going 8-15 with a 5.39 ERA. However, his ERA is down to 3.88 in 10 starts in 2021 (team is 5-5) and he's got a solid 1.04 WHIP. Alex Cobb began his career with Tampa Bay and had double digit wins in FOUR of his six seasons with the club. However, he signed a four-year FA deal with Baltimore prior to the 2018 season and produced a disaster of a season (5-15, 4.90 ERA and 1.41 WHIP). He then made just 13 starts in 2019 and 2020 combined, going 2-7 with a 5.57 ERA. Baltimore traded him to the Angels in Feb of 2012 and the hope was that reuniting him with manager Joe Maddon would revive his career. It didn't start that way, as Cobb poste a 7.16 ERA in April. However, after missing two starts due to a blister issue, he's won his last two starts, allowing just one ER over 12 innings (0.75 ERA) with a 12-2 KW ratio.
Seriously, he's no Jacob deGrom but he may just have found a groove. As for Kikuchi, in five career starts vs the Angels, he's 1-3 (team is 1-4) with an abysmal 11.33 ERA. Go Angels!

The Mariners have split the first two games of this series in LA, but they look good as an underdog in the rubber match tonight.
Yusei Kikuchi will toe the slab for Seattle, and he's coming off back to back wins in a pair of quality starts. Kikuchi (3-3, 3.88 ERA) allowed a pair of runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings in a home win over Texas his last time out.
The Halos hand the ball to Alex Cobb, who's stats look very similar to those of his counterpart. The Angels pitching staff as a whole ranks dead last in the American League with a team ERA of 4.95.
The Mariners are 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Los Angeles.

COLORMEMONEY - This horse could be tough this time around, especially since Martinez rode last time around the track and now should be better acquainted with this one. You'll be generating money left and right by turning your gambling cash onto this jockey/trainer combination. I like to play this angle, a horse coming back off a solid race within the last month or so. KING EDDIE - I really like it when a horse's last prep is at the same distance or longer than today's outing like this one's is. As the only speed freak in the race, I expect this gelding to be long gone. Gelding has shown some pace. This shorter distance should be better for him. STRIKE IT LUCKY - This gelding should be at the fitness peak, this far into his form cycle. This gelding is in good condition. Ran second on May 14th. The 92 last race speed figure looks good in the TrackMaster PPs. SATANTA - France has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware the longer priced half. Rounding his way back into form. Each of his finish positions is getting better in his recent starts. France brings him right back. I suggest you stay with this strong gelding.

I think PEVES BLUE DUCK is a formidable choice. Tough to pass on this gelding with Raudales in the saddle. Had one of the top speed figs of this field in his last race. He has been racing very well lately while recording solid Equibase Speed Figs. IVORY STORM CAT - Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this racer look respectable in this contest. Ought to come out sharp - I have liked the way this horse has moved rapidly to the lead recently. JESS A LIL POP - Is worth serious consideration and may be a wager - strong Equibase speed figs (73 average) at today's distance and surface lately. Could beat this field given the 78 speed figure recorded in her last outing.

CORRUZE - I like to see fast works. This gelding's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. You have to like that latest race speed fig, 95, which is the best last race speed rating of this bunch. NOBLE EGYPTIAN - Look for this horse to run lots better today. Last contest at Lone Star Park finishing sixth on a track listed as good is no indication of his true talent. ANTARCTIC - Broberg brings this gelding back into a race rather than a workout. He knows his gelding is on top of his game. This gelding is in exceptional form right now. Ran first last out and comes back quickly. I usually like playing sprinters who are 3-4 races into a return.

Make him show you something in a short distance contest before you play him in a race of 7 1/2 furlongs. Didn't hit the board on March 20th at Sam Houston. Followed it up with another less than stellar effort.
