Play On: Tampa Bay -158 (Corbin/Mcclanahan) Listed
The Washington Nationals take on the Rays in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night. Washington is 24-33 SU overall this year while Tampa Bay comes in with a 39-23 SU overall record on the season. Pat Corbin is 3-5 with a 6.28 ERA overall this year, 0-3 with a 7.30 ERA on the road this season and 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA his last 3 starts. Shane McClanahan is 2-0 with a 3.77 ERA at home this year and 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA his last 3 starts. Tampa Bay is allowing only 2.6 runs per game past 7 games overall. Tampa Bay is 8-1 in inter-league play this year allowing only 3.3 runs per game. Tampa Bay is 27-11 this year after a win. Tampa Bay is 14-4 this year after 3 or more consecutive wins. We'll recommend a small play on Tampa Bay tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

Given the form of the starters, this line could easily be higher. Mize has a stellar 2.45 ERA and a 0.764 WHIP his last three starts. Flexen has an ugly 7.98 ERA and 1.568 WHIP his last three. In his four road starts, Flexen's ERA rises to 8.10 and his WHIP climbs to 1.85. Somehow the Marriners have won three of those games. That said, his last road start was a disaster, as Flexen took the "L" in a 16-1 beating. Consider Detroit.

Play on: Rays -1½ +133 at Draft Kings

FREE PICK - Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (+133)
                  RATING: 30*
                  ROT#: 928
You can lay the -150 on the money line if ya want, but I think the real value Wednesday is with the Rays on the -1.5 run line at +133. Tampa Bay has the best record in baseball at 39-23. The Rays come in having won 3 straight. Nationals have lost 3 in a row and are last in the NL East at 24-33.
Scoring runs has been an issue for Washington this year and they come into this one having scored 2 or fewer in 4 of their last 5. I look for them to keep struggling against the Rays Shane McClanahan, who has impressed in his 7 starts this season.
The same can't be said for Nationals' starter Pat Corbin, who comes into this game with a 6.28 ERA and 1.518 WHIP in 11 starts. Corbin has given up exactly 4 runs in each of his last 3 starts and has failed to throw 6 innings in each of his last 4 outings.
Corbin's team is 0-9 in his last 9 starts as a dog of +100 to +150, losing by an average of 3.5 runs/game. Tampa Bay is 18-4 in their last 22 as a home favorite, winning by 2.1 runs/game. Rays are 14-2 in their last 16 interleague home games, winning by 2.7 runs/game and 14-4 in their last 18 off 3 or more wins, winning by 3.0 runs/game. Give me Tampa Bay -1.5 (+133)!

The Detroit Tigers are 16-11 in their last 27 games overall and are in the midst of their best stretch of baseball in years. I like their chances of beating the Seattle Mariners tonight behind starter Casey Mize. He is 3-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 11 starts this season and has a 2.45 ERA in his last three starts. Mize faced the Mariners on May 17th and held them to one run in 7 2/3 innings to get the win in a 4-1 victory. Chris Flexen has an 8.10 ERA in his four road starts this season for the Mariners. Flexen has a 7.98 ERA in his last three starts as well. Give me the Tigers.

                        Play on: OVER 8½ -115

Wednesday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Seattle and Detroit at 7:10 pm et on Wednesday.
The Tigers jumped out in front early and cruised the rest of the way in last night's series-opening 5-3 win over the Mariners. Here, I'm anticipating a higher-scoring affair as the M's send Chris Flexen to the hill against Casey Mize. Flexen has been awful on the road this season, posting an 8.10 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in four starts, with the 'over' cashing in all four of those outings. In a larger sample size of eight nighttime starts, Flexen has recorded a 4.75 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Given that he averages just five innings per start on the road we should see plenty from a down-trodden Mariners bullpen that has posted a 4.93 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the road this season (entering last night's action). Casey Mize has been terrific for the Tigers this season but much of his success has come on the road. Here at home he has recorded a 4.58 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. He's averaging less than five innings per start at home this season which is worth noting as the Detroit bullpen has posted a 5.63 ERA and 1.60 WHIP at night this season (entering last night's action). With both teams doing a better job of generating offense lately, we'll grab the 'over' in this matchup. Take the over (8*).

MLB | Blue Jays vs White Sox
Play on: White Sox -145 at linepros

My free play is on the Chi White Sox at 8:10 ET.
The Chicago White Sox broke an 11-year playoff drought in 2020 and was a 'sexy' preseason pick to not only win the AL Central in 2021 but to also win the AL pennant. Chicago found themselves just 16-13 on the morning of May 7 but after last night's 6-1 win over Toronto (in the opener of a three-game home series with the Blue Jays), the White Sox have won 21 of their last 31 games and at 37-23 (.617), are four games up on the Indians in the AL Central and own the AL's second-best record next to the 39-23 TB Rays. Toronto was a season-best six games above .500 through May 18 (23-17) but after last night's loss, has gone 7-11 since. The Blue Jays are in the brutally tough AL East, which not only features the Rays but the 37-24 Red Sox, not to mention the Yankees.
The starters for this middle contest of the three-game series will be Toronto rookie Alek Manoah (1-0, 3.86) and for Chicago, it's veteran right-hander Lance Lynn (7-1, 1.23 ERA). Manoah was the 11th pick of the 2019 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut May 27 against the Yankees in the Bronx. He was excellent, pitching six scoreless innings of a 2-0 win. His second outing did not go as well, as he allowed three HRs in just 3.1 innings vs the Marlins on June 2. However, despite allowing four runs in that limited action, he escaped with a no-decision in a 6-5 Toronto win.
Manoah faces a tough opponent in the White Sox and his mound counterpart is having a terrific season. Lynn came to the White Sox in a trade from the Texas Rangers for pitcher Dane Dunning and a minor leaguer in the off season. The 33-year-old was a workhorse last season, leading the majors in starts (13) and innings pitched (84) but most will remember him as an integral part of a St Louis rotation when he won 71 games over a five-year stretch from 2012-17 (he missed all of 2016 with an injury). Lynn opened the current season just 1-1 (team was 1-2) despite allowing just two ERs over 19.2 innings (0.92 ERA). He then missed about two weeks being sent to the IL with a strained right trapezius muscle. He returned on May 1 and in seven starts is 6-0 (team is 6-1) with a 1.38 ERA!
Toronto holds 'Great Expectations' for Manoah but I want NO part of him here vs the White Sox with the DOMINATING Lynn on the mound (only deGrom owns a lower ERA than Lynn's 1.23).
                          Good luck...Larry

Wednesday's Free MLB Pick is on the Minnesota Twins as a +160 home dog against the New York Yankees. The MLB is cracking down on pitchers using illegal substances and if there's one guy that seems to definitely been using it, it's the Yankees Gerrit Cole. In his last start at home against the Rays, he gave up 5 runs in 5 innings and I wonder if that was the first time he quit using whatever he was using. Either way, it's worth a shot to take the Twins as a massive home dog in this spot. Bet Minnesota +160!

Jack's Free Pick Wednesday: St. Louis Cardinals -119
It's safe to say the St. Louis Cardinals will be highly motivated for a victory today to put an end to their six-game losing streak. This looks like the spot where the streak ends and we are getting the Cardinals at a great value as short home favorites against the Cleveland Indians.
Adam Wainwright has been at his best at home this season, posting a 2.62 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in his seven home starts. He fired a complete game while allowing just two earned runs in his only career start against the Indians, which came last season in a 7-2 victory.
The Indians will be going with Jean Carlos Mejia, who will be making just his second start of the season. He lasted only three innings in his first start and this will likely be a bullpen game for the Indians tonight.
Cleveland is 1-5 in its last six games following a win. The Indians are 2-9 in their last 11 interleague games vs. a team with a winning record. The Cardinals are 15-5 in their last 20 games as favorites. Bet the Cardinals Wednesday.

Denver lost Game One of this series by 17 points and looks to bounce back in Game Two. This team is too good for that. Denver is 12-2 ATS in its last 14 games when trailing in a playoff series over the last 3 seasons and is 4-1 ATS in their last five games against teams with a winning straight up record. The Suns are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games following a straight up win of more than 10 points.
